Correlations

The clicking noise in steering linkage of VW 1302 Super Beetle involves me in some anxiety.
As it goes without writing, replacement parts of steering gear box for "Right steering model" are not supplied in all over the world, so the life of the gear box is that of the 1302 or the 1303 except the lack & pinion steering designed later models.

But the tie rod end parts are not replaced since last trial, the parts are ready.
I hope the clicking noise shall disappear not the steering gear box but from tie rod end pillow ball joints.

In addition left hub position would be moved outside for the convenience of wheel alignment procedure adjusting lateral offset, being required of cam adjusting in lower arm and strut upper mount outside to keep the negative camber value, minus 20 minutes.

But remember here that the difficulty to establish the frontal camber setting in frontal axle construction, camber and toe are in correlations, adjusting one means being affected on another value, so camber and toe must be adjusted together at the same time.

In anther words, wheel inclinations must be adjusted vertically(camber) under the requirement of fixed toe value horizontally(toe direction).
This is why the camber adjustment is so difficult as to be obliged the ultimate precise concentration even for the professionals.
Remember here again that the camber value should be exactly the same for the right and the left sides under the actual automobile operation condition.

All the engineer to adjust wheel alignments would come across with the highest wall to be overcome, the physical property for compliance materials, rubbers in axle construction.
The deformability, the viscoelasticity and the hysteresis are are the hateful enemy for the honest and candidate engineers.

It took me almost 10 years "to establish" the method of obtaining repeatable datum and "to measure" the wheel alignments and the constructive geometry in the automobile, to adjust and to establish the alignment according to the datum value shown by the factory.

The engineers trying to do these procedure would come to know how much do the rubber physical properties relentlessly prevents them from obtaining repeatable and precise datum.
It very difficult to eliminate the uncertainties in the procedure.
I have never met with the reliable engineer to do this as to be satisfied.
