Full-scale operation

I'm suffered from self impulse buying of Radio Control Model Airplanes recently, making three successful bids in YaHoo Auction. 2 ARF(Almost Ready to Fly) with color film coated ones and 1 balsa kit, Tetra Spitfire Mk5b. Though I'm satisfied enough, I feel some stress to have been increased in working duties. Anyway, these consecutive holidays from tomorrow to 6th next month have fully occupied by newly arrived model airplanes. Now, my hobby has come into full-scale operation.

KYOSHO Sukhoi Su-31 40

Judging from the original aspect ratio, I come to a conclusion that the scale should be changed a bit to obtain more vertical pitching stability, so the position of the stabilizer would be set at 60mm posteriorly. The original shape would be spoiled but actual performance would be far improved compared with the original design of this model. Any way, the result would be reported soon, as the most free time of these long vocation this year would be spent for the preparation of Sukhoi Su-31. 60mm extension of tail moment arm would take effect for stable vertical maneuver actions?

Accident today


Peeling up of covering film on stabilizer made the pilot put in the condition of disable control, right side rolling tendency was considerably formidable as not to compensate by full aileron control leading to an emergency landing on the paddy with water filling. Thank to some compliancy landing surface, the damage was not found except some muddy wheels. Entering into the prepared paddy for rice planting with bared feet was not so uncomfortable, I should not be experienced if this affair did not happen. Because I have already found out the part that seems to come off on the stabilizer of Curare 60, I must take care of that and mend the wrong parts one by one. Rookie 20 has lighter weight and it was saved with no damage, but 60 stunt model would be torn in pieces in case of any accident like today's.
Tightening needle valve that had been modified on the tip works well as I imagined and screwing in of main needle valve shows the former valve had affected on the highest speed needle valve position. Hi-Mid and Mid-Hi, Mid-Idle and Idle-Mid smooth transitions could be obtained after some carefull and gentle adjustment on the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm control valve adjusting screw angular position, finally, 120 degree screw-in adjustment from the initial terminal angular position.

Old Curare 60


Curare 60 is now under fine maintenance for the survival flight since 30 years absence. The main wing has 5 servos for retract main gear, for flap, for spiller and for ailerons on both sides promptly. Old servos as they are, they move and work the jobs properly, so, no replacement of servos would be performed, I let them go as they are. Header pipe for YS 60SR is newly prepared because the old one fabricated 30 years ago was lost while the moving dispute last year. As it was flown at that time but with some complaints, I have no sense of fear for the first flight on this Curare 60 World Champion Model. Also, there is no interference in 2,4 GHz Radio, so no apology is available whatever destructive accident might happen while the flight of Curare.

Automatic valve tightening mechanism



The tightening mechanism according to throttle valve closure was modified and adjusted in OS 32F motor, by scraping the tip of needle valve to the oblique direction, the fuel flow at high speed would not be suffered from the special mechanism of the carburetor. This counteraction would establish the normal and smooth transition throttle connection from middle speed to hi speed under YS fuel pressure injection system. The same modification was also done on 25LA motor with 2B carburetor having tightening mechanism.
As my intention is to come back to F3A field as a contest flyer, I must make effort to carry out the speculation in a year.
Regaining the intuitions as a F3A competitor is not an easy task for me after 30 years of absence blanking, training myself and preparing the competition model airplane are the indispensable things to be achieved for the purpose. Now comes the interesting things would happen in future?

In trouble now

Both OS small motors, 32F and 25LA with YS fuel pressurized injection system does not work well, from middle speed to hi they do not rise up with hunching phenomena in spite of precise adjustment of the famous diaphragm valve pressure spring screw. On the test bench running it's OK, but actually not in the flight phase. The cause of this malfunction must be brought by some interactions between fuel pressure control valve function and tightening mechanism according to throttle valve drum closure in the carburetor construction. So, further experiment on this interactive reactions in delicate condition should be performed. I have determined to solve this problem at any cost.
Consequently, I'm now making time on this failure point that is far from intended maneuver flight. Only Yoshioka's Pegasus 40 is available for me that was given by my intimate friend ten years ago. I'm going to define my future directional destination in this field.

A peaceful warm day


I spend a peaceful warm day at the flying place in Mie Prefecture with the members of some motor production company, started 6 o'clock early in the morning and came back home at 3 after noon including driving period of time for about 5 hours. They make continuous effort for developing new items in the field. Still now I am at a loss which to choose on the power source, OS belt downed electric motor or YS 185 four cycle glow motor? Radio set 18MZ has already arrived at my hand and the airplane has been almost at my hand, in some web site, the tendency to coming back to gas power is observed in some place?
The end of this week, the event of Gasoline Motor Festival is going to hold at Awaji Island KMA flying place, shall I participate in the event on this Sunday?

Kyosho Sukhoi Su31


FUTABA 18MZ came to me at last, though it was not in time of rushing demand before tax increase 3%. Once it has arrived at my hand, I must get accustomed to the handling of this instrument, too much functions with feature-rich makes me hesitate to enter this field after 30 years absence. I've finished all the admission procedure today to take part in the member of the circle in Mie Prefecture. I'll be a busy person from now like myself 30 years ago to being absorbed with this survived old hobby.
While countered wave of the day that 4 cycle motors are prevailing, the YS45 2 cycle power train was selected from my junk box and KAVAN engine mounting insulators would be inserted between the engineering plastic mount of accessories and wooden fire wall. Shutting off the rough knocking vibration from the crank mechanical construction to the airplane itself and other device like a radio, servos and linkage construction is worth doing at any rate, otherwise, the body of airplane and wing area play a part of noise scattering speaker plates from up in the sky. We should pay attention to the propagation of vibration if a combustion motor is imbedded.

Reached the initial goal!

5 hours highway driving on Western Meihan line this morning has proved that my treatment on BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US model was to the point at all, all the strange habit disappeared that could not be eliminated until Setback and Swung Rear End including Thrust angle and total toe value correction had been done on last Thursday. Highway test driving reveals clearly any strange reactions on the steering wheel, probably this setting condition would not be changed till the life of this first generation Legacy ends in future? Once I have obtained the way to know and to record Setback and Swung Rear End error, I should apply this concept on all the vehicle I'm keeping, fine and precise adjustment would be performed one by one on SXE10 TOYOTA Altezza at first, and VW Beetle 1302, XH200 OPEL B-Vectra promptly. I feel that I could reach the initial goal set about ten years ago.

Setback and Swung Rear End

Both Setback and Swung Rear End were measured and corrected on BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US model yesterday. Deeper consideration for long time took me the entrance to solve this problem how to measure actually on the vehicle. Putting an adjusting jig on the hub circular end surface made it possible to obtain 4 terminal point on the ground. Later procedures were performed relatively quickly after the problem, what is the terminal point to measure?, how to measure in what condition?, how to countermeasure it? , how to know the result and how to judge? It goes without writing that very good sense of drive feelings was obtained after that with shoulder and back muscles pain this morning in exchange.
