Duck & leek

Not a few elder people may desire to drive ancient old car self-experienced over 40 years ago. Where there is a will there is a deal, so the licensed mechanic with different flavor to realize such kind of dreams.
Some worker insists to be paied 8,400yen/hour and the fee would be same if the base model may be a TOYOTA 2,000 GT or cheeper air-cooled Beetle because the tasks are the same. Over 40 years old means that complicated and difficult tasks are waiting for us. I might have been looked down by him like a duck with some vegetable on the back.
Most of the customer wants to beautify the appearance like new as well as insides, so the painting costs are unignorable.
As for me, I do not mind the out sides, rusting or small dents are no problems, just the re-producibility of the originally ultimate mechanical performances are the first, so some strange modifications are not my choice.
Though a rear engine and a rear drive layout as VW 1302 Super Beetle has, the constructive parts are all charming enough to intoxicate me.

Deceit

Secrets cannot be closed any more in various fields. Interesting truth and fact are opened world widely. Even in scientific fields is it necessary to have two dimensions, lying and crawling are prevailing? Cheating others may be possible, but impossible to deceive ourselves?

Brake lining

Icing phenomena was seen on the roof of my B-Vectra this early morning, realizing me the winter season actually.


Too thick brake lining and inverted upper return positioner prevented me from setting new brake shoes in rear drum brake system on the right side.
The preparing thickness between brake shoe surface and drum inner one influences the touch of braking reaction, so the thickness setting cannot be too careful to adjust precisely, utmost concentrations and gentle manufacturing are required here.
Judging from the rate of wear of shoes in the rear drum and no oil consumption was observed, regarding that more future using were available. So, old parts were fixed on break shoes. In order to set the new parts, some precise setting procedures would be required for the next servicing.
Gradual familiarity is felt on old VW 1302 Super Beetle, I mean some mentally internal connections with this old machinery.

Wheel cylinders





Some consultant to restore old VW Beetle advised me about the money to be prepared, 3,000,000 yen was the price. He tried to attract my intentions to his world, but the differences in values had separated us, not visiting him in future. Also he didn't tell me about the technique to disassembling rear trailing arm constructions that is complicated and requiring special technologies supported by know hows, because of trade secrets.
He must have taken me not as a layman but as an professional a bit in the field. Anyway he tried to pay plenty of money to him for restoring old Beetle showing the samples of restoring another old cars. His words and actions ascribed me too poor behavior to appeal himself.
About the door hinge correction, it became clear that the construction is different from Japanese ones, door itself must be replaced if I wanna do that perfectly. The hinge holder thickness adjustment by grinding may be effective, judging from the disign.
The distributor needs vacuum advancer in the situation of Legal Inspection by the administrator imported by the regular importer.
So centrifugal advance only 009 distributor without vacuum advancing construction would not pass the inspection regarding by the inspector as an illegal modification, this was an important information for my future stage.
Today I'm going to replace all the wheel cylinders, all the brake hoses and break master cylinder, pre-checkin and greasing were the tasks yesterday.
Written in the evening:
Cylinders prepared are all genuine Ate, only right sides were changed today, residual tasks would postponed to next trial,exhausted.
Considerable brake fluid pilling was recomended inside of frontal drum, cleaned with acetone sponged soft papers into dry condition.
Blunk key was arranged into new spear key by hand filing technique.
Also EMPI "HURST" shifter was applied with some modification, removing side spring guiding sift lever toward 3rd and 4th position. This modification may invite the loose positioning and may cause shift position stability, unintentional position change to neutral, actually experienced about 40 years ago on VW 1200 LS Beetle.

Seconds angle value

Soaking myself in the pond of 1970s industrial technologies is of interest on earth for me.
On the other hand a thoughtful and sophisticated nowadays automobiles are not interesting for driving even nor maintaining, fully computerized control does not permit the users to enter the the engine controls, trans-axles and also braking system.
So an only a room left for users is the reconstruction of axle settings, meeting the value not with the tolerance but with the construction standard center on ultimate accuracy.
My intention is very simple and clear that a car may exist which goes straight without adjusting to keep straight running if right or left tendencies on steering stabilized cars exist.
I have been searching the place or the technical engineers to be capable in adjusting wheel alignments for 40 years, including factory technical center or professional instructor in Nagoya, but in vain, no one could satisfy my desire on wheel alignment.
The bitter experiences obliged me to determine to do that by my self about 10 years ago.
Consequently the researches started from the very beginning position, how to know the three dimensional inclination of wheel, where to measure, what kind of devices are required and eliminations of error influenced by deformable physical properties of rubbers and establishments of methods obtaining repeatable datum.
Over ten years of researches by myself proved the possibilities to fix the angle value of the wheel alignments that has the possiblity to adjust to the level of granularity of second. In conclusion, I can mention the truth and the fact those the right or left sides steering tendency would not disappear until the accuracy of the thrust angle error should corrected at plus minus 15 seconds angle degree.

Because found I some mistake in the Web site, I would like to write down on the critical point on wheel alignment.
Generally the stability while straight running mainly depends on the value of rear toe-in.
But the rear toe is applied the steering action while turning the curves combinations with the physical properties of suspension setting, rolling center, the balance of anti-rolling devices bushes and stabilizer, suspension springs and shock absorbers.
So the value of rear toe-in has nothing to with the straight running stability, the accuracies of frontal camber equilibrium, front and rear promptly, and thrust angle eliminations are the first factors.

Parts arrived




009 distributor for '71 VW Beetle came, bur with 34PICT/3 carburator idle stability because of advance would occur while adjusting stage. About this special adjustment on throttle valve is described by the pioneers in Web sites. Some mistakes, the stopping switches with 3 pins were ordered instead of 2 pins, may be interchangeable. After obtaining these replacement parts, many tasks are waiting for me from now.

SXE10

Isolated SXE10 TOYOTA Alteza would be serviced today, additional battery charging, electrolyte level checking and wheel alignment including air pressure.
Horn wiring and switching condition would be checked on VW Beetle.

Special method to recover the gravity of electrolyte was applied on the battery in Alteza, 18,5V/1A for 3hours after 16,5V/2A gaining 14,5V. Gravity indicator turned into healty color blue, probablly it'll last more harl a year.
Stil now I feel some wheel alignment error on Alteza, I guess 20 second to plus direction on thrust angle, prior investigation on wheel bases sould be performed.
About the dumb horn in VW Beelte, not yet.
I have obtained the permissions to use professional device by Netz TOYOTA for ignition, dwell angle and rotations per minutes tester.
Tires for Beetle and BC7 SUBARU Legacy were ordered, BS Sneaker 165/80R-15 and BS POTENZA RE-010 195/60R-15, being both of them comming five days later.
Disconnecting of unnecessary earthing wirings in XH200 Opel Vectra caused no differences between the before and after.

Killing brethren

Remembering the past, 65years ago, after the Pacific War, US insisted to occupy Japan not under the condition of divided control by Russia but that of US single control.
Thanks to the clever selection of US, we Japanese need not kill each other because of different ideologies.
Korean people are so miserable on the other hand as to fight with the same nations each other. The enemy is the same races, the same nations and speaking the same language, incredible?
Shooting howitzers each other are nothing but a destructions nor killing brethren.

Expenses

Deeper investigations proved the future financial support on old VW 1302 Super Beetle, more over 89,820 yen. Relatively expensive wasting it is for me now!
Remeber more on tires, 4 BS Sneaker 165/80R/15, 36,000 yen!
Google Chrome does not work well saying "RtINStarusToDos|rror was not found in ntdll.dll dynamic library",even new down load is rejected,how come? Just the system destruction or an intentional kidding by anyone? Unnecessary labor is required from now to recover the inconveniences on browser.


Wiper blades for another car were modified and set well today, no new parts are necessary.
D type battery is available on VW Beetle except fitting and fixing method, it's OK.
Still now the reason why does the horn is not activated is unclear. Fuse position is known but relay position is not yet.The switch of rear defogger is not certified, so the right side heater terminal was disconnected, further investigations are necessary.
The plug gap adjustment was performed on BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US model, concluding that the width were 0,100mm narrowed, better performance of EJ22 Flat4 was acquired.
Today, some celebration party in the evening stopped my auto servicing.

Required tasks

There are many challenges standing fouling on the way to restore the 40 years old VW Beetle. Then when does she acquire the Vehicle Registration after the legal inspection?
Many a service must be performed to do those purposes.
Brake hoses, 4 wheel cylinders and break shoes replacements, including brake pedal pad.
Frontal steering linkage accomplishment by replacing ball joints,parts are ready.
Universal joint boots on steering gear box setting up.
Horn must be checked after connecting the separated coupler.
Fuel line checking.
Speed meter on 40km accuracy accomplishment utilizing GPS.
End muffler may be replaced if the rusted tail pipes were not removed.
Rear hub bearing grease up and the hinge bushes and trailing arm bushes replacement.
Wheel alignments.
Exhaust emission gas inspections on CO 4.5% and HC 1200ppm by adjusting vacuum advance, bypass air and mixture control screws.
Though 5,5J genuine wheels are prepared, suitable tire, Bridgestone Sneaker 165/80R/15 must be ordered.
Wiper blades and window washer must be checked.

Again dirty Northern Korea

Asian athletic game is now held in Red China, Japanese Ueno's left eye was attacked as much as 3 times by Nothern Korean Kim. Probablly she must have trained to destroy eyesight intentionally, in the circumstance without weapon killing eye is the best way to win, may be trained as a military soldier?
Anyway she isn't a sportswoman, so get out the stage immediately, never show yourself again and go anywhere you suit, for example as an Al-Qaeda soldier in Afghanistan.

Enjoy restoring


There would be difficulties to solve the problems on ignition timing with combinations centrifugal and vacuum advance equipped in '71 VW 1302 Super Beetle. Remembering the purpose to have obtained this fully mechanically controled vehicle is no just to restore old and half decade scrap but to enjoy the processes on the way. So once completed and finished, the restored one is no worthy for me like NCP10 TOYOTA Vitz, a sophisticated wonderful smaller vehicle similar to VW Air-cooled Beetles, size and the concept of designing are the same with the differences of generations.
Before setting new frontal brake shoes on VW 1302 Super Beetle, I found out the reduction of fluid in reserver tank and pilling also at 6 o'clock position of backplate on both sides.
I realized the repairing methods performed a week ago were not effective to stop oil pilling from the wheel cylinders. The affair today made me determine to replace all the wheel cylinders front 's and rear's portions, additionally brake hoses promptly.
Repaired Dyson vacuum cleaner(by DIY) was helpful to do cabin and frontal trunk throughly, the purpose to use strong powered cleaner is not just cleaning but also to get the mold and it's spore out from the cabin, matt and seat mesh are the dens. Then later how much dust were trapped is easily discerned through clear dust catching tank.
Additional charging were performed on Beetle in addition to XH200 B-Vectra, unnecessary earthing wiring were removed that might have been the cause of dark current generation. Also vacuum cleaning was done on B-Vectra with the same purpose.

Difficulty on ignition system


Many a difficulty lying just in front of my future life with '71 VW 1302 Super Beetle. Because the time '71 was the just adjacent period of time,distributor and carburator system was exchanged into new system, and new one has not good reputations on earth,the reasons are chronic retarded secondary diaphragm requiring not BTDC but ATDC idle timing, difficulty to overcome the the chronic flat spot while acceleration and too lean orignal 34PIC/3 carburetor. There are no person to insist this on strange dual diaphragm equipped distributor, so there must be any inconvenience to continue ATDC idle setting . Almost of dual vacuum diaphragm equipped distributor are exchanged into 009 or 010 type former disigned but with centrifugal advance system ones. Concluding that have I chosen the most difficult Beetle as a partner among many type!
Anyway every Air-cooled VW owner or engineer has some hesitations and worries on ignition system on the Beetles.
Though much more sophisticated system may be invited on my 1302, another way is to keep original condition and the modifications must be refrained,as less as possible if done.
I can imagine the future difficulties to establish the ideal ignition and fuel supply systems on 1302 consulting with my 50 years experiences, but I'll do that and overcome most of future hardships.

Maintain autos

Thanks to the precise wheel alignment correction, thrust angle, on BC7 SUBARU Legac LSi US model obtained ultimate performance as designed by factory engineers. No concentration is required while straight running and ATF oil line hose was replaced into adequate parts. No anxiety is remained except 20 years used rear drive shaft boot on the right side.
Vacuum master left and wiper motor right, they are positioned differently from Japanese domestic models.

XH200 Opel B-Vectra is going well with no standing remarks.

SXE10 TOYOTA Alteza is left undone any servicing for long time. Probablly battery additional charging is necessary before ruined completely.

Nonconforming parts




The problem was caused by ill setting of nipple distance between in and out positions of ATF oil cooler equipped beside the radiator, nonconforming replacement parts was made by Koyo. The longer nipple distance invited the lack of length of original inlet hose, leading the supplying there from different car and for different purpose, throttle heater line preformed one with the same inner diameter but for LLC not for 130 degree ATF. Though the shape and hardness looked same and thought available, some swollen diameter and pilling were found after few months use leading to miserable results sooner or later, inner fiber layers were helpful to prevent some split or explosion.
This physical result caused by wrong approach realized me of the great efforts made by constructors, enough experimental trials and researching before rolling out of the model.

ATF line hose to oil cooler in BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US was successfully replaced into genuine hose. Any anxiety for explosion on different parts was completely wiped out today.

Engine testing was performed on VW 1302 Super Beetle, the idling condition changed if retarding tube was closed by pinching, became higher because of change of vacuum advance. But remember here some leakage was found on retarding diaphragm circuitry. Is it possible to order the parts,only double diaphragm? The reason why the stability at idle speed is not so favorable may by caused by the leakage on retarding diaphragm, pin hale or clacking? Then an usual replacement of distributor story may arise on earth?
With idling engine running, relatively much fuel consumption was to be seen, 1L/30min.
Exhaust pipes were impossible to replace because of rusted adhesions, so exchanging of the end muffler may be necessary.
Judging from the construction of IRS, replacement of arm bushes around the torsion bar,inner and outer, may be relatively easier than imagined.

Why challenge?

Without any computerized automatic control including trans-axle,is it possible for me to restore and to establish it originally designed performance even 40 years after the model production? The purpose of obtaining new comer VW 1302 Super Beetle is to ascertain above and challenge on the difficulties as one of my residual life works. It's better to do something if it may be a trifle than to spend self precious residual span of life with doing nothing?
Energy consuming and being obliged to consider with ultimate concentrations tasks indeed as it is, just I like it and enjoyable for me, it's far better than sight seeing trips.

Most of air-cooled VW Beetle are well serviced and beautifully re-painted look like new one, but they aren't my ways.
Before cosmetic procedures wheel alignments and geometric axle construction must be established prior to the decorations. Looks good and just moves are not enough requirements for me, the physical performances must be satisfied before painting out side appearence or chrome re-platings.
As for me, decorative procedures on VW 1302S would be ignored and almost of the servicing time would be spent only for attaining the original utmost performances, especially on wheel alignments and on correcting geometric constructions.

Ignition advance


Deeper considerations on the distributor on VW 1302 Super Beetle led me to some conclusion that the double diaphragm one has complicated mechanical control system and also difficult and requires some skill to set firmly, some trial experiments would solve these problems.
Adjustment with importance for Legal Inspection on carburetor is followings(Carbon Oxide below 4,5% and Hydro carbon below 1,200ppm):
34PICT/3 has two adjusting screws, big one for bypass screw and smaller one for mixture control. Bypass screw is used for adjusting idle speed, so never use throttle valve position screw for adjusting idle speed, fixed never touched. Smaller mixture control may be fixed with some resin plastic preventing touching by the outsiders except initial factory assembling.
Dwell angle, contact point effective interval on cam construction, 44-50 degree with 400/1000 mm thickness.
Idle speed must be at 850 RPM for manual transmission models.
Distributor setting is ATDC 5 degree, After Top Dead Center 5 for double vacuum diaphragm advancer equipped distributor.
Generally 7,5 to 15 degree advance BTDC (Before Top Dead Center) is applied in case of single diaphragm distributor, one of double diaphragm retards the timing while idling so ATDC standard is correct for this construction.
Reading from the exhibited graph, advance by centrifugal advancer at 750 RPM is between 4-7 degree and that of 1500 RPM is 9-11 degree, at that time that of vacuum one is 4-6 degree, so the width would be 13-17 degree advance in total.

Some interferance was found out on the 34PICT/3 carburator to adjust firmly, hatered "Dashpot" mechanism is set behind the idle stopper screw. So the function must be killed for idle adjusting, that is making the rotation down from 1,200 to 850 rpm slow and gradual intending emission control.

Actual adjusting simulation:

Setting the valves, all in and out clearances 0,15mm in cold cold condition.

Setting the ignition timing at 5degree ATDC by rotating distributor body with dwell angle 44-50 degree and with point gap 0,400mm.

Setting 34PICT/3 carburetor with the choke valve fully opened.
Screw in 1/2 turn idle stopper screw from the pint of 0,003" feeler gage touched, keeping untouchable on idle stopper screw for any future procedures.

On 34PICT/3, only the air bypass valve play a part of idle air adjuster in stead of opening and closing the throttle valve as the former types.

The mixture control is performed by air volume screw(smaller one) with initial setting of 2-1/2 turns opened from the closest position. And the finally settled sweetest position exists within a half turn screwing in or out. So turning in this smaller screw mean the reduction of air mass leading to richer condition.

But remember here that the idle speed must not be adjusted by this smaller air volume adjuster but be done by bypass screw(bigger one) anyway. Surely idle speed adjustment is the job of bigger bypass screw.

After adjusting idling rotation at 850 rpm, very slight screwing in of volume screw until rotation down 20-30 rpm with 1/8 turn, another bypass screw adjustment, opening to 850 rpm, would be performed.

The burning condition of spark plugs would show the mixture,lean or rich, further adjustment on mixture control would be the task on volume screw.

Unfavorable body condition interferes my attitudes, no way to go next step on servicing my automobiles. Slouching cannot be formed because of some electric current like pain on my back. The time interval for healing this disease gives me the opportunity to study again and to remember the way for servicing technique on the old styled way of non electric sensor drive ancient automobiles. Teaching aids and guiding movies are upped in U-Tube, they are very helpful on earth.

Back aches

ATF oil line hose parts for BC7 Legacy LSi US was ordered as a SUBARU genuine parts yesterday, also power steering pump return hose for XH200 B-Vectra was done as TOYOTA GX71 because of quality and the parts length per costing. Paying attentions to trifle details for older automobile prolongs it's life span, now 20 years have passed.
Too much earthing wiring on B-Vectra by my son must have been doing harm by unintentionally additional dark current, so some wires must be removed after careful checking.
The servicing hobby on VW 1302 Super Beetle is now stopping because of my back ache caused by unintentional disk slip. The physiologic phenomena leads to muscle spasms on both Erector spinaes. Only mechanical stimulation would be helpful for quicker recovery.
My intimate friend who is retired from the technical representative of constructive line in some famous automobile company was asked about the quality of hoses used in automobile. He clearly insisted on the heat proof quality at the first one, tough amateur layman like myself easily apply the hose material with out of standard.
Today's disassembling of EP82 TOYOTA Starlet door revealed the cause of some shock noise when right power window opened from closed position was backlash of regulator hinge position inside. Once the gear wear was compensated by shortening the distance of two gears few years ago, pantograph hinge wear is difficult to recover immediately, so replacement of the parts is the best way this time, let's check out YaHoo auction.

Ignition on VW1302S


The information obtained from some Web site proved the ignition timing of VW 1302S is ATDC 5 degree instead of BTDC. The reason for this unusual timing is due to double diaphragm designed vacuum advancer, some retarding effect is applied on idling RPM 850, and importance is the rate of advance around at 3,000 RPM with 30 degree advance.
Digital timing light is useful because 30 degree retarding pre-setting is available, so original marker of zero degree on crank pooley is also used as more advanced position. This kind of convenience is supplied because of digital control, also shown not only ignition timing but the RPM at that time is noticed at the same time.
According to my own experiences on automobile for 45 years, valve clearances and ignition timing,mainly intake valve, have strongly much to do with the motor performance especially on idling stability and available torque. So this AD11 motor with push rod valve drive design needs precise adjustment on those requirements, and ignition timing in relations with vacuum advancing and retarding system, complicated but interesting with not a little confidence. Actually the performance would be tested enough by future repeating driving tests.

Weight reduction

Some slipped disk on my back aches, so I may give up to attend the congress and evening concert. This kind of physical phenomena is mainly because of age and too much body weight. I determined to reduce weight 20kg as I did and I was last year.


NET surfing found out the origin of the VW genuine wheels obtained yesterday shared by Chelm in Ibaragi city. Rusted and brown colored wheels are shown in the photo of lifted Type 3 model but the pattern shape the form are exactly same as ones I have now. The genuine wheels prepared for my 1302 Super Beetle are for type 3 model's ones.

About Chinese fisherman's ship collision, I don't know why people are so interested as casted these days?
Basically the foreign ship is not a Chinese Military Ship but only a small private fishing boat.
Also I don't know why the governor wanna know the origin of the information movie came from.
Why do we put an emphasis on such a trifle thing?

SUPER TOYORON

Deeper inspections on the useage of industrial hoses revealed that that SUPER TOYORON is not so favorable for ATF line because of the limited temperature, 60 Celsius, ATF would come to 130 Celsius so often. So another material must be set on that line, naturally Fosso rubber, inner line forcing pipe must be set if the original hose, shorter for new wider nipple distance, is used for the pressure of a clip band. So many industrial materials exist for the purposes promptly, just I studied on this field. Engineers in specific field are probably exert themselves in researching like this.

Though I looked for rubber hose for ATF oil line to upper nipple on oil cooled left side, adequate diameter 9,5mm hose was not found out today. Formed hose is not always necessary there but straight one is enough if the diameter was adaptable, 8mm for fuel line on injection model is too small. So relatively longer straight hose with 9,5mm diameter may be available in genuine parts.
But 5,5j/15/ 25 off steel wheels for VW Beetle were obtained at last today.

Critical problem found

Deep-seated anxiety on BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US model obliged me check the ATF line hose near LLC reserver tank this morning, then I found out some ATF oil pilling unintentionally. The potential disturbance is that the upper oil line hose was changed into second handed Opel B-Vectra sedan's throttle valve heater hose. Because the periodical replacement radiator made by KOYO had ATF line nipples in different positions leading to the lack of length for original oil line rubber hose.
Anyway I must replace the line hose as soon as possible before falling into miserable disasters, line explosion. Continuous checking on old car enables to prolong it's span of life.

Very subtle

Thanks to a precise adjustment of thrust angle on BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US model the day before yesterday, strange steering reactions completely disappeared.
Just re-realized myself I the fact that even 1 minute angle value of thrust produces strange reaction not only while straight running but also causes uneven reactive steering pressure while right and left turnings. And also, how often and how much had I been obliged to concentrate to adjust the steering centric positions adjusting steering anti-pressures to keep straight running. Uneven steering actions, left weak and right strong, throughly wiped out after the adjustments last time.

Selfish desire

The matter itself is not so sensational as to quarrel between nations that a small accident on Eastern China Sea, but it became a trigger to upset the balance of exquisite on the tacit understandings .

Pacific War

Even now Japanes people cannot have such kind of tendency to be moved and to be distinguished relatively easily by some lies and puts?

Thrust and behavior

The error of thrust angle value on automobile is permitted within plus minus 10 minutes(angle) in European Automobile Safety Standard. Strange report from VW Japan AG contained the permitted thrust angle value plus minus 20 minutes, how come? Why changed into big tolerance as twice only in the models for Japan? The newly produced model but in the condition, being out of European standard are exported to the poor country without checking standard, to Japan? Because another adjusting procedures invite more production costs, they export ill wheel aligned new models to another country except to Europe.

I wrote the wheel alignment adjustment on BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US model. The error of thrust angle was not 40 minutes but 40 seconds(angle value). The distance scaled on handle column was about 3mm between two centric steeling positions while straight running.
Though the physical phenomena based on some error are already reported in Web site, the relations between the magnitude of the errors and the resultant behaviors are not shown enough.
Actually the reaction, self-steer covers and automatically adjusts all of the ill settings on wheel alignments, and at the speed below 100km/h, no sensitive adjustment is required in slow traffics like in Japan. This is why the ordinal drivers in Japan may be indifferent to the negligence of the car producing company.
But in high speed condition like in Germany Autobahn, precise wheel alignments are indispensably necessary for the traffic safety.

As walking with restless dog is tiresome, so an ill wheel alignment set automobile invites nervous fatigue after a long driving.
The reason for unpleasant results are caused by sudden and unintentional adjustment of connecting chain or steering adjustments required without any previous notice.
Any way a continuous concentrations to something obliged without own choice preparing some stimulations occuring without previous notice is boring, I wanna run away to my own tent from such circumstances,if possible.

Cooking on BC7 SUBARU

I was crawing under the axle of BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US left handled model this afternoon. The reason why I did it was that the left side tendency and two centric steering positions while straight running had been seen recently, very unpleasant driving feeling was there comparing with another ones I'm keeping now. Careful measurements on wheel base proved no error was found out as suspected previously, 2584,80mm on both sides on standard value 2580,00mm. As set back was checked enough last time, possible error should be caused by swung rear end phenomena, but such anxieties were in vain. Following measurement on thrust angle revealed the error clearly, thrust angle was plus 1,350/2 minutes.
I found out the unacceptable and strange steering reaction, wondering phenomena when stopping and starting was throughly wiped out clearly. Of course reactions were changed into very confortable one after adjustment.

I had an opportunity to talk with the owner of the VW shop "My Bows" in Tokyo tonight, he was very kindly enough like an old friend to tell me very important methods and know hows for servicing VW. I felt some warmth and his passions to live with VW old models.
On comming 14th this month, some event is holding in Sizuoka pref., I may attend the party to meet with him for the sake of good relations.

Dull transaction

Though I thought the photo would reveal the phenomena I declare by the specific engineer in JR West Japan, they returned E-Mail asking another explanations, how come? Trial riding on the same train I mentioned previously by the professional would easily solve the problem, just mis-programming or worn gyro system, no further connections with me is necessary?
Probably, this strange train has been used without adequate adjustments for long time?

Parts came


The parts for the replacement on VW 1302 Super Beetle arrived at me today from Tokyo "My Bows" shop. The owner of the shop in Tokyo is kind enough to tell me all about the difficulties and know hows, so he said to me in noticing mail. Such kind of kind suggestions would be of indispensable supports for me.

Dinosaur?




This is a piece of nail on heavy equipment for dredging in Kumano River taken by me yesterday on the way of bus journey.
I would have never come across this kind of machinery if I didn't make a journey to "Kumano-Kodou".
Huge nail looked like some nail of dinosaur few thousands years ago. The three dimensional curvature looked so naturally artistic because they were formed by natural grinding and digging attitudes.

Japanese cooky since old time "Okaki" were exhibited in some souvenir shop by Soi Sause maker. I recommended the cooky must be delicious enough because they were seasoned with special Soi Souse by the maker itself. That's to the point as finish soon after opening transparent envelope, no way to bring it home.
Japanese rice and egg with Soy Sauce cooking way is popular all over Japan, but the first time for me to see the districted Soy Sauce only for the purpose,"Tamago shouyo".

Control failure


I'v come across the strange phenomena in the train, Super Kuroshio 28 to Kyoto, while the straight running over 80 km/h, only the 4th train left roles about 2 degree, so the door edge line is not parallel to frontal nor posterior train, very incredibly strange phenomena happened. This tendency disappears below the speed of 60 km/h so the door sashes duplicated into parallel.
This shot from a frontal seat of No 4th train shows only the 4th cage plays strange the left side roling conditioned while straight running the degree of inclination was about 2.
The professional in this field would easily recognize that while the straight running this strange photo must not be taken if the pendulum control system was working well as designed.
Considering about the special adjusting construction, computer controled automatic pendulum adjusting mechanisms, probablly the gyro or it's controller must have lost a good control.
I told about the failure to the professional person at Shin Osaka St. of course the number of the train also, モハ380-26.

Beer caps putting on the small shelf falls down provided a small window sash inward relatively easily if get into the curve at high speed with ready angle minus 2 degree(left side role).
Sitting on the window side and the second row right truism beer strewn on the floor more dirty clothes right of retention or customer reached through the left window side passed through my feet on second row left aisle despite the state after passing through the curve and while straight running.

The corrections by the pendulum system is activated in order to compensate the centrifugal effect while curvature running at relatively high speed, then such kind of correction must not be done except in those situations, so designed and electric and mechanical systems are firmly adjusted and set according to the principles?

Beard


I found the sentence,"Dad, your beard was pricking!" that's all he wrote in his testament before the departure in human controled torpedo "Kaiten" while the Pacific War in 1945. The sentence was too short to had told his all the intentions at that time, but it has enough potentials to remind me of tremendous imaginations from deeper part of my mind, I just remember the itching stimulating sensitivity while my childhood I had been in dad's arms.
I'm sure to come the theater to see some the war movie expressing not the misery of war but the emotional movement as a human being,
The title would be "The sea without exit" with the director Katsuhiro Fukuzawa,coming soon.

The ship departed

I just ordered some amount of replacement parts for VW 1302 Super Beetle, otherwise I could not go forward, so many tasks are scattered in front of me for this 40 years old automobile. My choice of VW shop is "My Bows". Probablly this pitty car were deserted because of the defect mainly on wheel cylinder oil pilling leading to strange braking reactions. I ascertained miserable left frontal brake drum with thic vanish material inside of braking metal surface.
Anyway I have gone on board this poor Super Beetle, so I'll keep servicing on her, then how long must I serve her?

Once I wrote about the sagittal view of VW 1302 Super Beetle, nose up and tail down ugly shape, but I knew the fact when my son sat down on driver's seat that the frontal strut shrunk so much as to down the nose considerably. So, if the fuel tank is fulfilled, the problem must disappear. In another words spring rate is relatively soft and easily shrinkable because of rear engine and trans-axle layout, as the result of right weight nose position.

Steering gear box




Critically indispensable parts on VW 1302 Super Beetle is Ball re-circulating steering gear box on right handled model, yes this is exactly the model I'm keeping now. Though the gear box replace parts are prepared only for the left handled model, no parts supply especially spiral gear inside is prepared(for right handled model). So I must check the gear box first how long does this parts would last in future, because the life of the gera parts dictates that of my 1302 Super Beetle.
Just a bit movement in front of my garage declared some strange noise probably from differential gear or side housing bearings.
After removing drive shafts on both side, some checking must be required on the grease lubrication. Many tasks like reassembling all the constructions of the Beetle becomes clear day by day and one after another with getting accustomed to this 40 years VW Beetle, I feel some anxiety to over come from now, long way establishments?

Without loosing even a day I have been writing my own blog everyday in English for these two years, I do not recognize any remarkable improvement in my own English, in the way of expressions, words and vocabularies, how come?
But in Blogger site a few English using people in US and somtimes Canada are viewing my blog, that means my English is understood by mother tongued people!
Though some difficulties remain to make myself understood in foreign language,English, I'll try to continue writing as usual.

How much?



How deeply and perfectly do I restore this 40 years VW Beetle on earth? How about repairing it as less as possible? Pay attentions not to replace into new parts but to repair the original parts as much as possible except the ones playing the important ones on safety systems and devices such as brake and steering construction.
1st applying grease on the portions that were depleted portions, bearings on drive moving parts, for example hub bearings and steering ball joints.
Of course the destination for restoring this Beetle is to survive now, main purpose is to enjoy the step on the way tasting fine industrial German works 25 years later on the WW2. So working and moving parts would be carefully checked and set so firmly as much as possible with enough time interval of reconstructions.
