SXE10 Stabilizer bush

SXE10 TOYOTA Altezza has a stout frontal stabilizer formed with about 20mm pie hollow pipe and the tightness on supporting bushes at hinge portion was too loose to take effect in the beginning of rolling situation, so I applied 2mm thickness rubber sheets between tightening bracket and bush rubber in order to harden the capability of hinge bush, as a matter of fact, no effect was perceived especially on the stability of straight running, but the sense of push-up has been increased probably because of loosing compliance there. No advantage was obtained instead just a bad ride. Another bushes like rear arm hinge bushes those are so flexible might have been affected consuming the effect by the hardened frontal stabilizer bushes by an ordinary layman.
Now, the result led me to the conclusion that any modification even on the hardness of one parts never invites better result but it becomes worse, because the compliance balance had been well tested by the factory drivers and engineers with professional standing of view considering an ultimate balanced automobile, so any modification should me allowed even a piece of rubber bush and this is why the replacement parts are defined promptly by the original manufacturer.
I should know this unmovable principle by my own experiences, I'm sometimes weak to bow to the whisper of the Devil. Because the procedure of removing the inserted rubber sheets on the portion without peeling engine room lower cover, the direction of the bush clamp bolt were toward the ground and invisible, it was a complicated and time consuming work, additionally have I muscle pains in my arm and shoulder today.

Long waited correction



Long waited correction of discrepancy in the body of Curare 60 as long as 30 years was done last night, cutting at center line of tail portion in two pieces precisely frontal longitudinal, it was adhered together as it should be on the construction jig. Separated vertical stabilizer wing and horizontal one would be reconstructed again in relation with the correct alignment following the terminal thrust line. This is the most important step for obtaining the aligned model airplane for competition. Eliminating bad habit while making patterns, avoiding any unexpected movements for the flyer, an aircraft exactly & precise adjustment of the rate conditions of rudder-handed are the keys to winning in the contest.
Anyway, spending my free time with doing something is far better than with doing nothing.

End of this year



This kind of entertainers make this cold weather much warmer than usual, "Chindonya", we call so, is one of the way for one of a strategy of Mall dealings lasting for a long time since Edo period. We should continue this kind of indigenous culture long from now.

OK model's popular PILOT ACE 20 was reconstructed to fly again that was designed and prefabricated over 35 years ago, it had fell down at the first flight because of some frequency interference at 40MHz FM. 3 GWS S03N-2BB MG(67gr with 2 Ball bearings & metal gears) for 3 dimensional control and S3003 for motor control were set in positions as prepared. A little damages were mended in usual manner and it is ready to fly anytime wanted.

The tail wing of Curare 60 was well corrected in thrust by the method previously mentioned. Ill constructed main body thrust line would be corrected with the same way as applied in wing reconstructions. The motor would be selected as YS 60 SR with the special fuel injection system utilizing the pressure of crank case first in 2 cycle combustion controlling middle speed mixture in the way of a specially designed diaphragm control valve system. Though designed over 40 years ago by Yamada Industrial Company in Aichi Pref. in Japan, no other pressure system like Perry Pump could exceed this one even now, this is why I am going to embed this motor for Curare 60.

Surgical operation



The case of death investigation laboratory would be newly established in Osaka National University as the first attempt in Japan, but it was the latest transaction, I have been perceived the necessity of such kind of specialized professional expert ASAP. Only 10% of the murder cases were done in Austopsy, how come? Not a few clever murder were missed all the way until now.
The Laboratory would be increased in number establishing that kind of institutes in every Medical University, but feel I it is above too late to transact onto human's selfish desire, this tendency would last long so far as Police and Life Insurance company exist on the Earth.

Spending two holidays, some difficult surgical operation was performed not on the human body but on the tail stabilizer in Curare 60 maneuver competition model airplane. As mentioned before, removed and separated stabilizer was horizontally cut at precisely marked center of it's airfoil on the adjusted special jig mount and adhered again on it in the condition of eliminating any twisted discrepancies, as a matter of fact successfully finished. Anhedral original design make it difficult to fabricate precisely and also setting on the body keeping "Zero Attack Angle" following the original design on the drawing. In addition, tapered body tail design is an additional difficult factor. Keeping Zero thrust with no inclination, the tail wing, stabilizer should be set and adhered well, the procedure requires keen concentration! I have made up my mind to overcome this hardship at any rate, because my Curare 60 should exceed another ones in accuracy no matter who the manufacturer might be, even if professional builders in this field. All the discrepancy should be excluded and never fall in the invitations by Satan, because any compromising would be shown clearly following Natural Scientific Law. Consequently, my holidays in the end of this year and new year would be spent for this work to establishing accurate competition model, Curare 60. I'm going to describe in more detail on this special Radio Controlled model airplane.

World Champ model Curare 60

As a next step, Curare 60 designed by Hanna and Hanno Prettner who won not a few world championships is now under reconstruction on rear stabilizer that had been done roughly fabricated over 40 years ago. Twisted constructions on both sides should be corrected at any rate if some comfortable flight is desired as a purely designed maneuver competition model airplane. Ill fabricated with twisted wing can fly but it nothing but just for floating in the air, that is not suitable for a maneuver competition scenery, so, any discrepancies, especially ill and twisting thrusts should be eliminated by any way such as cutting a wing horizontally like a fish cooking and adhere it in corrected condition, also, setting thrust is indispensable requirement. Main wing was well done from the beginning in the past time utilizing special jig, so I clearly remember, especially Curare has has an innate physical property to draw rolling maneuver. I'm looking forward to fly this model airplane in good fabricated condition in very near future with my favorite motor, YS 60 FSR that has fuel injection system with pressure regulator, have I enough confidence to control and adjust well the system, also, Tuned Pipe would be set in adequate setting with German Graupner propeller 12*9 specially adjusted on statistic pitches and weight balance.

German Automobiles

I studied much yesterday about new concept automobiles delivered in Japan recently when I visited the German dealers VW and Autounion. From the beginning "Torsion-Beam" rear trans-axle designed cars were discriminated in my mind from my selection, so, a newly produced "The Beetle" was out of my sight, because it was so designed on it's catalog. But, I happened to peeping into rear axle construction with face down looking into from the bottom of The Beetle, then I found out a black thick horizontal bar, I thought it to be a stabilizer or something immediately to see that, but careful checking to it's the occur and the stop revealed it to be nothing but a lateral force supporting rod with rubber bushes on both ends. I just remembered my past experience when I replaced my automobiles from TOYOTA EP82 Starlet into TOYOTA NCP10 Vitz RS, both of them had the same 1,300cc displacement, but had completely different rear axle construction, former one had 3 linked with lateral rod construction and the latter one did just an easily movable torsion beam one without any countervailing power for lateral force like lateral rods. I had often feel a necessity of forming a lateral force supporting rod. Now, I found out the exactly the same figure that my embodies at all in the rear axle construction of The Beetle's one. In addition, the rigid rear axle constructive design is not always inferior to independent one especially on slippy road conditions like snowy or muddy road surfaces. In another words, the independent rear suspension makes it difficult to control well especially for less experienced ordinary drivers.
Consequently, I have added "The Beetle" in my recommended vehicle in the condition that it's trans-axle had been well improved enough to satisfy an user's requirement without any threatening inconveniences like a critical defect on the dry type 7 speeds DSG trans-axle construction, yes, clutch judder phenomena.
Even now the phenomenon on the Earth follow the ancient law of Physics mentioned in the famous article "Principia" written by Prof. Isaac Newton who lived 200 years ago.

An unexpected accident


Rookie 10 was destroyed before taking off because of an expected accident, just fell down from the shelf, that happened just  because of my own careless attitude, consequently, it is now under repairing and reconstruction especially on the tail wings, additionally, most favorite and well balanced propeller, Graupner Super Nylon 9*5 was broken by the falling shock, this part must have played a part of shock absorber. Tarmac storage location should be well considered from now. This unnecessary work would finish in 2 or 3 hours and be ready for flight safely. As for Phimpy 12 motor glider, complicated push-pull rods constructions are finished and almost be in the final finish. Motor Glider is one of my interested field, so I'm excited and looking forward to fly it in very near future.

Steering wheel inertia

Remembering the past of my experiences, on Volvo 244 GL, the steering stability was lost remarkably soon after replacing the original steering wheel into a smaller & lighter genuine leather covered GT model's one. So, the steering were replaced as they were. The reason for the unstable condition while straight running was due to the reduction of reduction of diameter from 400mm to 360mm so I thought, but, the factor of the weight of wheel itself might have been an important factor that could not be overlooked on earth? Physiologic standing point of view, Inertia phenomena factor should be focused when some dynamic movement is considered? Comparing the weights of two wheels set in BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US model, MOMO 3 spokes on a genuine boss and original 4 spokes, remarkable weight differences between them that should not be overlooked. Now, I determined to replace them into original condition. Recent experiment has revealed that BC7 has some innate bad habit, unstable steering action while straight running caused by lack of caster value in frontal axle construction, rising up to the hill is stable, on the other hand, downing is unstable, in addition, fulfilled fuel tank brings stable condition because of tail down and more caster angle is obtained and becoming unstable in proportion to the fuel reduction. In order to gain more frontal caster angle, frontal axle main bar moving forward is one of a choice to be considered, but before that, I would like to replace steering wheels into more heavier original one to rely on the Inertia phenomena for more whee stability.   

Miscellaneous thoughts

An outsider in Medical field has played a great part of the clinical datum falsification, some poor minded proper from some pharmaceutical company did it, as a matter for regret, Japanese administrative body has no way to crack down on them because no registration exists in our country? Smart but uses his capability in another way appears in any field in any generation, probably "love of money"  that a person with innately causes miserable shameful act like that? Anyway, we should ostracize such a low-dimensional factor because we have already been occupied by piled up challenges.

I had an opportunity to talk with a famous actor in Japan who often appears in TV. He is single now and the reason for that is elimination of any factors in his private way of life especially when he in the condition of getting himself up his own artistic world,  a small shout cuts in his way even if it might be a lovely calling "Good dishes for dinner is ready, come!".  Though an ordinary person cannot his selfish way of thinking, I can do that from the bottom of my heart, because I feel exactly the same as him.

Give up flying

Though two model airplanes had been prepared for flying today, the cold weather with below 10 degree celsius outside prevented me from departing in triumph to model airplane flying place in Mie Pref . Too cold temperature impedes alcohol vaporization leading to some difficulty of initial explosion of the motor, so some droplet of Ethyl Ether is utilized on for the specific purpose if it was not a Diesel motor but ordinary Grow motors. And also, controlling finger does not work well in this kind of cold condition. This is why I changed my planning this morning into staying in my working room servicing and maintaining my model airplanes today.
I expose my regrettable shame here, I have broken my lovely motor that was not done so if my best care on the malfunction with much care, over thirty years old with original seal opened leading to oxidation and water absorption in alcohol component abnormal combustion producing solid sludge and that prevented main drive shaft supporting bearing's smooth action, caused vanish adhesion on piston side wall---miserable result was brought on a geriatric poor modeler who persisted in the use of rotten fuel. Anyway, aging of myself and 30 years absence in model airplane field caused this first time accident.

Annoying vs loneliness?

Relatively loud and strange note caused by stormy wind woke me up in the middle of last night, some pressure change might have happened in high up in the sky for the full-fledged winter season in Japan. As our bathing room had been occupied by someone, I changed my ordinary manner without it. Irregular manner and habit often caused inconvenient circumstances, so I envy a person living alone especially these days. Those kind of person no matter how the resulting reason might be, a single person says about loneliness to be alone? Avoiding troublesome and annoying, overcoming self-loneliness, hope I leading my life alone.
I have too much things to be done by myself from now to recognize myself being a miserable lonely person.

Model motor glider

Phimpy motor glider is now progressing that has been throwing away undone for about 30 years. The motor is L.M. COX Black Widow 049 that has fuel tank just behind the clank case, so an external fuel tank is not always necessary to be burdened. Judging from the use of setting on a motor glider, the amount of fuel is enough to rise up the plane and the motor has no speed control, just rise up and it should stop in an adequate period of time. This kind of plane is invited when the weather condition is good, not so windy day. Also, the twisting phenomena of it's main wing was carefully checked based on the concept mentioned before. All the equipment, servos, receiver and wiring including switch should be less weighted ALAP. As for servos and switch mounts, a piece of wooden Japanese chop stick were utilized considering their grain direction. Thanks to a sophisticated adhesive material, Alpha-cyanoacrylate, the work proceeds so quickly.

Sooner or later?

An existing of Japan land is only one of a strategy by US of Pacific Front, so an inconvenience of China amid airspace is purely based on US Military strategy. Actuary, Red China has proposed as one of a negotiation that the line of front should be set on the longitudinal line at Hawaii. Japan has to be involved with China area judging from the standing view of the construction of tophography. Both of big countries have some intention promptly to make use of Japan as a piece of military equipment, just an Unsinkable Aircraft carrier, Don't be in a comfortable and selfish dream to be helped by US so friendly that defeated us and occupied Japan 60 years ago, remember that small but complicated fire has already broken out at Senkaku Islands area. As a conclusion, Japan should wake up from devouring that long period of indolence and pay much or the most money than before only on self military defense, because no other country would not protect Japan when inevitable big fire breaks out. We should have enough military power to defend ourselves, Nuclear Weapons are not an exclusive way, so I think, because have we an enough industrial capability to do that in two weeks construction period. I might pay duty tax double!
Of course I'm not an aggressive person and hate I any fighting with other countries, there exit the different countries with different way of thinking.
Nuclear Weapon armed submarines, missiles and the setting up of several Hi-speed aircraft carrier task forces are the first and urgent tasks for us to be done by ourselves.
The time is now for us  to stand up as an actually Independent Nation Japan. The records of history shows our way to be selected without any arguments.

Twisted main wing

Twisted main wing irregularly causes some unpleasant reactions while drawing maneuver patterns in the regulation of F3A, telling about the physical property of a model airplane. The phenomena resembles that of thrust angle correction in an automobile that I have been doing for these 10 years. This strange and unpleasant reactions in some discrepancies must be caused by unexpected change of coefficient frictions in various conditions. As I have been mentioning in my blog, Zero Thrust is extraordinary important for an automobile, on the other hand, Wing Twist should be avoided proposition for airplane, so is my conclusion this morning. Consequently, I determined to correct the main wing's twist in model airplanes I'm keeping however smaller the rate of discrepancy might be.

Used Radio obtained

Radio equipment obtained by bidding in YaHoo Auction at 2,300 yen had some problem, the main potentiometers keeping the controlling pulse were moved according to the former owner, so disassembling of the transmitter was obliged regardless of my favor. Connecting factory adjusted standard servos, I did setting the terminal positions of the main potentiometers one by one with some keen concentrations. Checking semiconductors inside on the cards, no defects especially on capacitors were found and the main functions to control an airplane were kept well in spite of the ancient production date of 1985. Remember, circuitry formed by semiconductors lasts unlimitedly if there occurs no short nor disconnection, problem is electrolytic capacitors arranged. Also, lubrication of moving and slipping parts in the mechanical closed Gimbal construction was performed for smooth stick movements.

Rookie 10



Rookie 10 trainer plane is now undergoing for replacing motors from Fuji15 into OS 25LA, resulting lack of ground height on the nose gear was compensated by rewinding coil portion with one turn prolonging about 20mm longer, so, the threatening of propeller tip touching with the ground surface in landing situation has eliminated. By reducing the number of turns in this way, the spring constant of the nose gear would be increased as a matter of fact.
The wing area of Rookie 10 has 20dm square, this plane would fly like a pylon racer if some 25 motor might be embedded, in the most of flight scenery, middle motor speed is used, of course fuel and air mixture ratio is also important, so the carburetor of 25 FSR which has middle speed mixture control system was connected and the full speed is used only when rise up phase in case of F3A pattern competition manouevres. Most of the flyer has 2m wing span big plane in F3A field, but I dare fly in the condition of a smallest plane.
The smaller the plane is, the more difficult to control in P15 pattern drawing.
It is worth flying well with a baby plane with the condition of difficulties, controlling trainer plane with wider dihedral and antisymmetric airfoil.

It looks so trifle to play with model airplane like a kid, but, also is worthy for geriatric like myself to cultivate a dynamic vision in the sky talking with wind and air that is invisible but has enough curiosity to communicate with the physical property of "Air".
Now, I'm preparing for flying "Currare" designed by Hanno Prettner & Hanna Prettner, the father of Hanno P., in Austria who were famous World Champion Ship winner for a long period of time. Remembering the past, I shook hand with them and had a better times surrounding dinner table, faces of good old friends both Japanese and those from foreign countries come to my mind.

Lack of boiling

I visited an Italian restaurant "Sakuragumi" situated in Ako cape that is the most Western side of Hyogo Pref. yesterday. As a matter of regret, the Spaghetti served at that time spoiled our table, because the lack of boiling period of time resulted in a unpleasant table. The reason for apology by the staff was too poor to satisfy our complaint, in Italy the same, hard and sticky to the tooth? Anyway, that was not an indispensable place to visit with much expenses and I determined that never come there again. In addition, we did not recommend any love and passion on the dishes those are most important to be expressed. Any business should be done from the bottom of heart.

Devoted an old hobby

I have been skipping blog these days, devoting myself to an old hobby is one of a reason. Model airplane by Radio-Control is my best fun, because I can communicate with the presence of air. I have been concentrating on my cars, especially on the wheel alignment and axle constructive geometry these ten years, cars go on the ground so to speak 2 dimensionally, but now transfer I to 3 dimensional trial.
First of all did I correct the discrepancies on the main wing, twisted and distorted constructions were the task to be done utilizing a special jig. Obtaining the main wing without twisting is the indispensable requirement to enjoy comfortable flight avoiding any unexpected reaction, so to speak bad habit. 3 evils for model airplane flight are unreliable Radio, motor with stopping habit and a aircraft with bad habit.

Old hobby

Habitual idleness prevented me from writing a everyday blog these days, on lust Sunday I enjoyed old hobby, flying a mode airplane radio-control, at the country side place. I found out some change in my mental state, all the stress was removed in my back, it was an unexpected phenomena, so I made up my mind to revive my old hobby.  As a first step, I subscribed to the negligible liability damage insurance for safety of all.
As the plane had been left untouched as long as 30 years, the main bearing set at crank shaft supporting portion was rust resulting poor motor performance. Replacing frontal and rear bearings recovered the original performance. In order to regain a sense of model airplane flight requires several trials. I was a candidate to take part in the group member of the flying club there.

Dealing estate in vain

The dealing estate for my son's new house has broken off the other day. The price we presented was exactly the same as that of the recommendation price by the seller's real estate agent! But, the seller insisted 2,000,000 yen higher one, so the result was that. The agent has enough information about current market price and they served the price to the seller, of course that is nothing but the higher price seller concessions advantage, and the dealing should go well with buying and selling established, our price is more reasonable than ordinary dealing without any price cut negotiations. The seller suspected the secret agreement between the agent and us, because the prices were the same from a common-sense standing point of view. Any way, all the the efforts exerted this time were in vain. Becoming emotional is worse for a big dealing, not for us but the seller.

Criminal found


Removing the rain guard boots, I found out the criminal to have caused dysfunction on the rear door locking mechanism in B-Vectra just now. Killing the function of the outer handle there was considered in the beginning, repairing this circuitry would recover the original function.

Broke

The door lock system of right rear door became out of order, it closes but without locking. This kind of inconvenience must be brought by any disconnection of wiring on the moving portion in show with arrow. Removing inner door cover and reconnection procedure would be required. This work has risen up as a complicated one, it would be done soon otherwise B-Vectra cannot be used if left unlocked outside.

NHK TV program early this morning showed how to think about historic cultural heritage, it is regarded as the way to connect the ancient persons with us living now. The connective bridge between old time and sensitivity are the indispensable property of heritage.  I have learned about this fact from a great leader, Professor Kiyomi Sakaguchi.

Maintenances



AC power controller was fabricated by myself with making use of Wonder Kit PC-16A printed circuit plate. This kind of semiconductor circuitry is indispensable for precise rotation control of a grinder and sharpener devices.

The air duct fixation was performed in VW 1302 Super Beetle engine room that was necessary but left undone for long time, because it fell down so often after a long driving. As the duct was set in different way from the original design because of a cooler cooler compressor equipment retrofit, that caused some tendency to fall down, remembering the past, the duct was not found from the beginning. Heat and vibration must have brought this inconvenience. Now, such kind of anxiety would be eliminated thoroughly, butyl rubber self fusing tape applied the portion and Ju-Billie band would make the fixation surer from now. Hitting and slipping noise discerned from outside that caused by fallen duct and crank polley resembles that caused by lack of lubrication grease in the generator main shaft supporting bearings.

Steering gear box backlash

Elimination of backlash on worm gear steering gear box in air-cooled VW1302 Super Beetle has far progressed it's behavior, urging me of re-consideration on the rear axle compliance mainly on the trailing arm rubber bush hardness. Special lubricant was applied inside in addition, well kneaded Microflon powder was added at the same time preventing gear wear. Though I thought that some unstable steering reaction must have been brought by the lack of lateral stiffness of the arms, I realized that the backlash in steering linkage also has much to do with this kind of inconvenience. I am going to try deeper on this point with more experiments.

Winter season soon



Typhoons are coming across to Japan main land one after another these days, #27 and #28 are about to be near to us. The weather condition this week end would not be favorable for any Autumn outdoor affairs and this winter must be cold for those with no warm memories. Canyon Kurobe was now in the moment just before winter season, Autumn Leaves were not yet there last week when I visited.

Street view camera?


I came across with a specially modified SUBARU Impreza in Southern Eastern part of Kyoto the other day. Thanks to the desperate and continuous efforts by the company, we can easily recognize Google Map Street View any time we want. A few cameras are set on the ceiling of the car and the shots would be obtained in different shooting directive angles from the same point.

Also MD100-200 on EOS


Riding on the momentum of Minolta lenses modification, did I the same also on MD Zoom 100-200 without getting tired yesterday evening. No anxiety on innate 0,50mm shorter flange back discrepancy was not to the point in actual adaptation work as the same reason with MD 75-200. This lens had been produced for a long time from initial announcement with just changing the outer shape of barrel designs, so MD and MC 100-200 have exactly the same optical design for long period of time, in another words, Minolta had not been obliged to change it because it has good enough physical performance to go well further more without any dissatisfaction in actual specifications. It looks longer than the later model, MD75-200 but with less weight. This old designed but with good performance lens would be one of my enjoyable one from now.

MD 75-200 on EOS



0,30mm step on the outer circle of the flange surface and removing the lens-back adjusting sim 0,2mm could have eliminated the discrepancy of flange back difference between Minolta, 43,5mm and Canon EOS 44,0mm. So, no complicated lens element or lens mount case length adjusting were not required on New MD Zoom 75-200. Following my selfish and fixed perception on the magnification of focal length, the less magnifying F/L, the more physical property and performance of zoom lens would attain, this 3 times variable F/L MD 75-200 might have superb performance on earth. I'm looking forward to try this tomorrow.
As shown in the upper descriptions, lack of flange-back value of 0,5mm makes it impossible to focus on the infinity point if used on 44,0mm Canon EOS Digital mount, so most of superb Minolta SLR lenses while silver salt film period are deserted as voids in the market, but actually they are all available if tried to adjust for matching the different construction on flange-backs each other. This kind of hobby works on lens adaptations are not guilty, because the work itself is not destructive but constructive to survive the lives of wonderful industrial products like a phoenix. I should not be denounced but be appreciated.

Iga-Ueno & Shigaraki




I happened to come across with a wild fox in the mountain at Iga-Ueno city, it might have been nourished and fed by someone because it didn't try to run away if it recognized me at a distance. It was an unexpected good opportunity to meet with a wild animal, I did not have such a chance if I didn't get into deep in the mountains.
On the way of Western Meihan Road to Iga-Ueno at Kashiba parking area, a very rare historic old sports car, TOYOTA 2000 GT was there, even now it looked so sophisticated that may be available. Shigaraki was not crowded because of week day. Heavy rain fall the other day carried much dust on the artificial pond "Amagase" along with Route 307. Basically, prefer I a natural circumstance in the country side to artificial ones in the city.

Differences

What is the apparent difference between the conditions before adjusting and after establishing "Zero Thrust" in a vehicle?
The frequency of steering adjusting by the driver remarkably reduces to keep straight running.
Running direction is not changed by an ordinary noise stimulation from the ground rough condition.
The centricity of the car and that of the driver match firmly each other leading to an ultimate fun of driving.
As an only drawback of "Zero Thrust", the driver must be caused drowsiness as a matter of fact, probably because some lack of concentration to keep straight running, the vehicle goes straight without adjusting and a fundamental character to keep the continued stable condition.

By the way, we should know the difference between the rough ways to spend plenty of money relying mainly on debt and some elegant lives with principles.  Such kind of dignity as a human-being is nourished in a short period time in US, however worthy in bulk there might be?

Thrust precision


Plus 1,190 minutes of thrust angle discrepancy in VW1302 Super Beetle was corrected into zero condition after several hundreds km break-in of rear torsion arm rubber bushes replacements. Only an initial adjustment of wheel alignment and constructive axle geometry is not enough to establish a good alignment condition for all the vehicle on earth. According to my experiences, several times of adjustment should be repeated till all the deformable parts would be completed their plastic deformations promptly.
It goes without writing that the scaling and the adjusting procedures should be performed under the same condition with actual driven phase, so 60kg weight as a driver's body should be put on the seat position if the actual probability is so.

Adjusting compliance

As I mentioned before, additional 3mm thickness rubber sims would be applied into the IRS construction of VW1302 Super Beetle to prevent too much lateral direction compliance, red marked positions as shown. This kind of trifle idea to set rubber sims here should be effective to attain natural steering reactive performance especially on the very initial beginning stage of the action. In another words, the displacement of the rear axle construction does much harm on the steering actions, makes it muddy, sticky and dull. Preventing this inconvenient displacement of the construction to lateral direction, some astringent, cool and comfortable steering reaction would be acquired. The rate of compliance and balance is the most nervous point and the most important proposition from the old days for the factory designing engineer. It must be the truth that the compliance application onto the points are the key to success to accomplish a good and comfortable ride of my Super Beetle.
JIS #70 hardness with 3mm thickness rubber material would be tested as an initial attempt for my interesting experiment.

IRS lateral displacement

VW1302 Super Beetle has been operated on IRS trailing arm bushes on both sides inner and outer and the steering action was far improved comparing with before operation. But, I'm not fully satisfied with this improvement because the very initial phase of steering action is still dull and muddy for me, this phenomena is not caused by the tire profile 80%, weak spring and shock absorber, narrower tire tread but the lack of the resistance to an inconvenient lateral displacement of IRS trailing arm. #70 JIS rubber standard 3mm thickness round doughnut shaped parts would be applied between trailing arm bracket and IRS bush outer end surface promptly. This method for preventing the arm from lateral movement is commonly used in some Motor Sports field, for example, TRD special parts for the purpose on NCP 10 Vitz Cup Races. The result of this experiment on VW1302 Super Beetle would be reported later.

VW1302 Thrust adjusted

The thrust angle was adjusted to the nearest condition of zero utilizing DIY special tool that has a LASER pointer in the level body for the checking of horizontal wheel inclination and 1719,75 mm radius pendulum device for doing vertical wheel inclination promptly. As a consequence arising along with IRS arm bushes replacement performed the other day, thrust angle adjustment is one of an indispensable procedure for me. The angle rate value of discrepancy before that was plus 2,37 minutes angle value that is acceptable value referring with European Traffic Safety Standard plus minus 10 minutes.
In order to establish "Zero Thrust" condition in Air-cooled VW 1302 Super Beetle, very special technique was required, because just loosening the axle bolt connecting trailing arm and hub bearing case loses rear body height in a few centimeter, so the supporting point should be set not on the shock absorber portion but on the tip end of the arm avoiding assembling error. Though I have been imagining that some unstable steering reaction such as wondering on a rut road should be brought by too much applied compliance especially to horizontal direction, it was proved after the adjustment that my idea was not to the point.
Basically fluffy as the 1302 genuine suspension and axle construction is, this is not the reason for unstable wondering at all, it goes straight in a great peace like an arrow flies after obtaining "Zero Thrust" condition. However hard I might try to find disadvantage to do like this, no argument occurs in my mind, a rolling frictional resistance and slip angle might be kept in the minimum conditions leading to compensating fuel consumption as a matter of fact?

VW1302 rear axle operation





I applied serious operation on rear axle of VW 1302 Super Beetle yesterday. They were IRS control arm bushes those had not been replaced from the beginning 42 years ago. Though the replacement rubber main parts, 4 pieces of bushes had been prepared two years ago, they were left undone because a very important information about the procedure could not be obtained, how much angular action would happen when the trailing arm movement stopper might be released. Also, the owner of VW shop in Takarazuka Hyogo Pref. was not so friendly as to tell me the data about that because of his selfish dealing strategy, it goes without writing here that I stopped to drop on him after that. On the other hand, YouTube movie information about the action of the torsion bar spring construction after releasing gave me an enough confidence to proceed to an experienced dis assembling procedure. Recording the original angular position of the torsion springs is the key to success, but for that, it would take time to find out some balanced adequate positions of them. And newly applied rubber parts prevented me from tightening the cover plate, the countermeasure to put new bushes on an adequate positions was preparing some longer stud bolts and nuts. Now, all the inexplicable part on VW1302 Super Beetle has eliminated thoroughly.
