OS Max-Ⅲ 29

OS Max-Ⅲ 29 motor has come to me from Yahoo Auction at 3,000 yen today. Though some fixations between piston & cylinder, crank shaft & case were observed, good conditioned motor as it was, no leak of compression, no backlashes on the important portion such as piston pin holes, big & small ends. Because this motor has no speed controller, the use would be control line only, probably would it be on " Red Eagle" designed by Mr. Yoshiki Takahashi over 60 years ago. Any way, I'm satisfied enough to get some dream and future hopes.
Now have I several control line motors, ENYA 29 ⅣB, S45, SS30, OS Max S35, Fox 40 Dx and Super Tiger 51.

Accidental ill luck yesterday

I feel disappointed to describe a miserable diary this morning.
46 motor powered fun-fly model airplane fell down and destroyed into pieces yesterday.
Immediately after taking-off unusually strange sound was discerned, taking right turn then I saw left side aileron withdraw, however hard I might try to control every motion, all the lever on the transmitter could not cause any action on the airplane.
At the moment when the airplane exceed the specific airspeed after taking off, the most awful phenomena, "Flatter" occurred, the strange noise I heard at that time was nothing but Flatter especially caused on the left side aileron portion.
Remembering that moment, what kind of countermeasure could have been done by myself, closing the throttle valve to reduce airspeed? Is it possible to do that when the airplane wants to depart from the ground as high as possible?
Generally, Fun-fly models are designed to obtain less weight if some constructive strength is lost, so wings especially moving wings have tendency to be easily
distorted when some controlling power by the servo is applied. This is why the weak constructive designed has the danger to cause Flatter phenomena.
Less air-speed even in taking off situation, prevention on the moving wing distortions. Those are the conclusion by the Model aircraft Investigation Committee.
As a least comfort, almost of the equipment inside of the airplane were recovered alive except the Rx battery.

Primitive servo failure!

Though I had no intention to check it deeply at the beginning, just loosening I was 4 screws at the lower corners of the malfunctioned servo, then I found it!
Now feel I lucky that I didn't loose or destroy my lovely PILOT Ace B with critical failure on the most important elevator driving servo, those strange reaction happened not only yesterday but also today.
Soldering error was the criminal of the affair today. The symptom was loosing control while the flight only at motor high speed condition. Just replacement of the servos was my work today after the morning flight, checked I the ill-servo by chance. Micro servo as it is, it is worth using because of the basic construction, metal gears and 2 ball bearing driving shaft support design. This removed one would be reused in PILOT Junior, elevator and rudder driving.

TAIPAN miniature engine

"taipan motor" by Gordon Burford came to me through Yahoo Auction at a reasonable price the other day. Judging from careful inspection, this motor was manufactured with some solemn quality control, keen skil should be required to design, to construct  and production checking. Ogawa precision Co, Ltd had the agent right half a century ago and sold in Japan with OS decal on the boxen.
Schnyre scavenging method had been invited already at that time, it means that the Australian company had sophisticated technology far forward to another competitors. Paying attention on the carburetor system with closing fuel control, OS motors with the adjustable throttle carburetor followed this "taipan style" without any hesitation. Also, piston and cylinder relations are ABC and the fitting conditions are fine adjusted the company engineer without any complaint.
This kind of historical legacy material might be kept as NIB condition, I dare use this motor on MK Star 15 single channel model airplane participating in the meeting of "Golden Age & Old Timer".

Western Electric JAN-CW-349A

DIY Pentode single stereo amplifier was withdrawn from storage room after 20 years from production by myself. As a matter for great surprise, the sound from JBL LE8T is so clear, pure, powerful and so fresh, just pleasantly grainy well on every musical instruments compared with some Triodes like 2A3 and 245 & 45. direct heater system designed. Generally speaking, secondary distortion has much advantage than third one, because odd waveform should stimulate a human auditory nerve too much uncomfortably, this why the direct heating Triodes are preferred those have much secondary harmonic distortion wave. This theory prevails if ordinary 6V6GT tubes are invited on my DIY amplifier, but once the power tubes are replaced into Western Electric JAN-CW-349A this principle is easily turned over. It is somehow eccentric way of Tube low wave amplifier to put it on the final power tube, this designing is BINGO! , Russian 6SN7 is invited as the SRPP drivers. Of course, delay switch on timer is designed for gradual high voltage  acceptance after the heater is warm-upped.
