Residual period of time

The job or work whatever thing it might be, it would be rewarded if any result could be obtained no matter how it might be difficult to accomplish enough. Thinking work or body muscle one do not matter.
It's very tiresome way to spend my own time just with do nothing, some obsession by external factor do not make me feel so, but my own internal desire that spring up makes it. Some period of time with doing nothing may be necessary for human being, the activity in our brain is not always resting, it is proved by the researchers in Functional Brain Science. So, doing something actually and obtaining the result, not as a mere experience but as the truth and fact that is proved Scientifically based on Datum Analysis, I recommend the best way to avoid aging for Geriatric.
Sitting in front of TV with laughing on trifle ordinary matter that is scattering rumors uncertain pseudo information, this is my hatred situation at all. I make it a rule not to watch TV except weekly weather forecast. Especially, distorted opinion or propaganda by external neighbor's couturiers are prevailing in our country recently.
I prioritize communication by my own decision over one way broadcasting, any information should be gathered only by a personal choice, please avoid any brainwashing by the others including unintentional picture insertion among the programs, so to speak Subliminal Effect.

Worm & sector steering gear box?

Worm & sector steering gear box is equipped in my VW Air-cooled Beetle 1302, not Rack & pinion.
Because of keeping lubricant thin layer on slipping surface, gear backlash of former is wider than the latter if compared. Physical construction does so, then the former one is inferior to the latter?
Most of the recent steering gear box is so designed as Rack & Pinion style with power assist?
Careful checking on the steering construction in my Beetle, small but effective steering dumper is connected with controlling arm, this is nothing but the buffer to avoid the shock, vibration and waving including keeping the steering position at the position, so to speak keeping the stability at the same time. Also, small rubber shock buffers are connected in the construction, a fluffy idler arm too.
The construction and buffer parts are designed, tried so many times and decided by the factory engineers, probably their great endeavor should be above words and our imagination.
Even a changing the rubber part with different physical property later by an user must appear disguise completely spoiling the best balanced condition at all, this is why I insist on replacing any parts into genuine ones in stead of the third party products.
The final production is the result of the best efforts to the bleed by the production company at that time. The workmanship by the engineers should be respected without any argument, however old story it might be.
So, it is no use to judge the mechanical part only, steering gear box comparison, because the vehicle's taste of ride should be done as the whole machinery total balance as a matter of fact.

VW Air-cooled Beetle test run to Kasai City


Because of a fine day today, I went out for a test drive for VW Air-cooled Beetle 1302 running 150 km distance in total including half high way run. Wheel alignment for her had been accomplished especially on Thrust angle yesterday, I wanted to to know the result. The destination   was Uzurano Air- Field situated at Kasai city in Hyogo prefecture.
The place has so sad history as to remind me of last WW2, not a few suicide military airplanes had took off there and the young pilot never returned. They were victims to continue next generation, naturally I gathered together in front of the Memorial Monument.
The place exists near the Hokkeguchi station on Hojo Railroad and Old temple is near the place showing the way. I make it a rule to visit the place twice a year in order to purify my heart remembering the past, over 70 years ago.
The result of the test driving was favorable at all including high way run. Only a little steering adjustment was required to keep the straight direction and turning phase is very natural on both side. The center fixation phenomena appears once Thrust is removed, vulnerability of steering gear box mounting has very little to do.

The importance of the least Thrust Angle

All of the opinions stated by Mr. T. Mizuno is observed in YouTube by myself about the new models produced by domestic and foreign automobile companies except Nissan company. In his judgment, he often says the steering uncertainty at center position, then I wonder if has had checked the Thrust angle prior to the actual test drive? Or he must feel the phenomena well considering the other important factors?
Probably he can do that, because he was the chief researching and developing division for Nissan GTR. Very difficult as is, his capability make it possible at all.
I didn't know the drive feeling of  "Zero Thrust" vehicle until I drive it actually and often the sensation diminishes in my memory.
Once the steering action mainly while straight run might be experienced at "Zero Thrust", I come not to drive any vehicle that has thrust angle. Most of the driver might not know about these fact and truth or might be obliged to be gotten accustomed to the current status as I am so.

Thrust angle adjustment on VW Air-cooled Beetle 1302


Thrust angle adjustment was successfully performed today on VW Air-cooled Beetle 1302.
Simple concept of triangle similarity with trigonometric symptom made it possible to calculate the adjusting distance on the rear right side trailing arm. 3.10 mm extension was the data obtained as a matter of fact. Trailing arm supporting point is important, at the position of the end of clumping point, not the external solid part, otherwise rear moving arm will goes up and the vehicles height becomes lower.
Naturally, Steering center position changes after thrust angle adjustment, because the former discrepancy on the thrust is compensated by front toe directional vector.
It was lucky the steering was re-positioned at the centric position by sifting one spline tooth.
My work these days are trifle I recommend so, but piled trifles is not always trifle, it merely be nothing but self contentment.
Recently, any vehicle user cannot enter the IA controlled system, so the adjustment I did is the only way to have some relation with the vehicle to being kind. Any machinery production contains the tolerance, so to speak "Range of specific error", I wanna make the assembly error zero as much as I can.
VW Golf GTI that my son is using has thrust angle error, within the tolerance plus minus 10 minutes, and he is going to sell it in the near future. 5 years use with only 25,000 km run at less than half price of purchase. His intention might be changed if I adjust the thrust error to zero? Or I would like to use it instead of him.
Anyway, as keeping a vehicle wastes money, so my Xanthippe says with mustache about that. Thunder always comes on me after a sincere comfort.

Muscle work for 3 days





I'm falling in muscle work these 3 days and I've some difficulty to change clothes because of muscle pain, arm, shoulder and back.
The blush replacing procedure on TOYOT Caldina AZT-241W was performed the day before yesterday with much suffer, as the serpentine belt tensioner was replaced at the same time, too long hinge movement center bolt required lateral engine mount removal including crank pulley pulling out work. It took me one day and a half to complete the work. The first experience takes long time always.

Because I felt bad handling reaction in my Beetle, front right side camber pull phenomena, checked I front axle constructions on my way back home from Hyogo Transport Branch in Kobe.
Right side positive camber and the left side had too much negative inclination.
As we know, camber setting and toe direction correction should be done at the same time, they have inter active relations each other, in addition, vehicle must be moved front and rear side on every scaling and adjustment, this trifle step is indispensable in order to release the tread surface stress, keen concentration and patience are necessary, they are very complicated and boring at all.
To tell the truth, I had neglected to fix front camber precisely, there is nothing as reliable as measure, just watching without precision device.
Consequently, I payed  the attachment today, all day long.

By the way, I made camber gauge by myself, a primitive mechanical scaling device based on Pendulum principle with 1719.75 mm radius reading the inclining value 2 minutes/1 mm. Although it is childish, it has far better accuracy than the ordinary bubble position reading type. 
On the other hand, horizontal scaling is a modified level scale with LASER pointer. The accuracy is above some professional wheel alignment tester.
As front axle adjustment is over today, I have to proceed "Thrust angle setting" tomorrow, though European Safety Standard prescribes, the angle should not exceed plus minus 10 minutes, I have strong will to make it zero degree. Minus thrust angle is apparent by the wheel surface line of sight measurement method, let's see what will happen.

A day passed like a jet arrow

My dental treatment started around noon taking time for 30 minutes, I was completely exhausted after that losing intention to work on my vehicle in the morning. I have lost energy to proceed my job, it must be caused because of age.
Infected left lower second molar was treated by means of pulp tissue removal under a local anesthetizing condition. Initial injection needle insertion caused some pain, but I could feel the sharp needle position passing through the Periostin under anesthetized condition, just it's nothing but terror! A young dentist said to himself, "Cortical bone is too hard to break through." Also, the noise and vibration grinding Dentine tissue including secondary one amplified threatening feeling. Still now some dull pain remains at that portion.

On the other hand, scaling thrust angle on VW Air-cooled Beetle 1302 11AD model was performed, as I expected 7mm/4800 diameter plus angle was observed and 11mm/7200 diameter rear Toe-in value.
The datum show that rear swing arm length extension solve the problem. Actually, the rear axle construction of Air-cooled Beetle requires a little ical, not so easy as imagined. I would like to do that tomorrow after the work on TOYOTA Caldina AZT-241W, alternator maintenance and serpentine belt replacement.
Though I have power and intention to do that, but physical strength does not follow after that. Just an elderly wail at all.

Bleeding from a caries hole!

A sharp pain has been lasting while blushing at the portion of the left lower second molar, ducal distal corner at Dentin-Enamel junction so class 5 including distal surface must be the disease name.
The last time when I visited the dentist's, some bleeding was found in the bottom of the caries hole and anesthetizing did not take effect, so the young dentist said let try next time because removing infected pulp tissue should proceed under no anesthetizing condition. Though he said so with smile to relieve my worry, he looked me like a black Satan at all, he called me up this morning asking me when do I come next, call us back to make next appointment with his receptionist.
To tell the truth, my i-Phone is very heavy to call him again, though his office is designed blight and clean, but actually nothing but Hell.
Supposing I'm laying down on the Dentist's operating chair with no protecting and no resistance, my pulse counts faster and faster, how come?

Muscle work is waiting for me

It's warmer today after a rainfall, the waited muscle work would be performed on a dried surface around noon, replacement of alternator blush and supporting bearing lubrication.
Lower wheel house removal and serpentine belt loosening are the indispensable steps to remove the alternator in TOYOTA Caldina AZT-241W model. The blush module is prepared and a canned splay grease with special thin nozzle. Just I'm waiting for clear up climate at all.
As for VW Air-cooled Beetle 1302  11AD model, I found out the discrepancy on thrust angle, probably the angle must be plus direction within 5 minutes. I know the reason of that, replacement of front lower hinge bush on both sides is the criminal, I had not set the camber angle so precisely at that time.
Front camber setting at minus 15 minutes is the first step in the condition of Toe-in zero value after that rear axle reconstruction will follow. It must require some keen concentration taking time all day long. This kind of hobby job is the only obligation to be done for myself. It's better to spend time for this than devoting to sleep.

Victory while suffering

I spent today from early in the morning till evening on the countermeasure for legal inspection of VW Air-cooled Beetle 1302 11AD. Three time attempts on the line inspection were done as a matter of fact.
The first attempt found out two errors, too much Hydrocarbon, over 1250 ppm and brake light on both side no activation.
As for too much HC, I just remembered to have adjusted the combustion timing too much forward at BTDC, immediately re-adjusted it at the standard sparking position with the timing light carried together with today, then the problem was solved safe.
No putting on the brake light on both sides is very seldom to happen, so doubted I the brake pressure switch must be the criminal.
Checking the filament of the light bulb, I found out the filament was alive.
Residual reason for no circuitry is pressure switch, so I thought at the beginning, as a trial attempt, I just moved the connecting terminal by finger, the circuitry was recovered and the brake lump function could be attained again. Very trifle affair for a professional required one day for an outsider, layman.
Matrix time, 3 times in total required patience for all day long, taught me what the perfect preparation was.
Anyway, I have obtained some sense of accomplishment, I would like to give myself a glass of Beer this evening.

Every 2 years legal inspection

The lead battery in VW Air-cooled Beetle 1302 was charged for preparing the coming legal inspection on Monday. A charging device is one of a switching power supply with 16V/2A, very gradual charging method for the least battery damage. Full charged condition is observed to discern the continuous bubble bouncing sound at 15.5V.
Additional charging ceremony is indispensable for over 4 years old lead car battery.
75D23L is utilized for my Beetle instead of European standardized one. The terminal diameter is the same each other and the physical property is superior to imported expensive smaller one, in addition, with the more capacitance at half a price.
Combustion firing timing is changed, much more faster at BTDC, because the checking condition is changed, removing vacuum advanced circuitry connecting while idling, actually the rotation is very smooth and acceleration is more. Let's see what will happen when exhaust gas is checked. I have some bitter experience on WEBER side draft carburetor burdened in Talbot Peugeot 205 Rallye, so I do have some courage and confidence to adjust there and to pass the inspection. Special standard for old vehicle is prepared in the Authority, the regulation value is looser.
Now, all the requirement are fulfilled for D-Day, the periodical legal inspection by the Authority at Hyogo Land Transport Bureau in Kobe.

Cold days lasting

Cold weather is lasting these days and it prevent me from going outside actively.
 "People must be cold who do not have warm love."
The timing to proceed some work and the inconvenient climate duplicates always for me. No one's business but mine. My tiredness and idle habit are the reason that I know. I'm waiting for the recovery of climate condition and some Sunny day might give me warmer condition over 10 degree Celsius, then I will go into the work on TOYOTA Caldina AZT-241W, alternator maintenance, blush replacement and supporting bearing lubrication and the serpentine belt replacement.
Residual process for VW Air-cooled Beetle 1302 is battery charging. It will be done on Sunday.

Anxiety on TOYOTA Caldina AZT-241W

I have an anxiety on my TOYOTA Caldina AZT-241W, it's blush wear, at the time 2 years ago, the alternator was disassembled to  confirm the condition of it, I regarded the life should be 30,000 km use, now the decided distance is covered already. In spite of such kind of danger my vehicle has, the work has been postponed as hesitating, coldest season now is the reason. Replacement parts had been obtained already, just sabotage.
It would be done at any rate some sunny and warmer day ASAP.
As for the starter motor, one of 4 terminal blushes was worn out unreasonably, but more 50,000 km use will be continued, so I believe.
The problem that happens suddenly while idling of D4 motor, it is often the case on D4 motor among the users appears on my Caldina without exception.
As some experimental trial, I tried to run keeping 4000 rpm for about 1 hour on the highway, then the strange phenomena disappeared thoroughly and smooth, powerful and stable operation were reacquired again, low speed and dull driving condition must have piled carbon and sludge in the valve construction?
Because the motor mounts were replaced after 150,000 km use, I would like to continue this one more 30,000 km without any trouble, my lovely equipment.

Ispezione dell'asse del faro

L'asse dei fari è una delle procedure di controllo più importanti nell'ispezione periodica delle autorità.
Gli abbaglianti dovrebbero essere abbattuti a una distanza di 30 metri è lo standard, quindi ricordo, ma il recente ispettore mi ha ordinato di fare l'asse in posizione anabbagliante, come mai?
Anche la mia TOYOTA Caldina AZT-241W, di 16 anni, ha il marchio del centro della luce sulle superfici delle lenti esterne in posizione abbagliante, non anabbagliante. Il fatto mi porta alla conclusione che l'ispezione dell'asse dovrebbe essere eseguita nella posizione di abbaglianti nello scenario. Suppongo che i sistemi di illuminazione siano fondamentalmente diversi dalla vecchia teoria, mentre la generazione in cui qualsiasi sistema di fari modificati non era stato vietato, ad eccezione dei normali apparecchi di illuminazione, 2 tondi o 4 tondi.
Ad ogni modo, ignoro sempre il loro suggerimento e pretendo la posizione di abbaglianti, ma in realtà abbaglianti, oltre a dare una leggera rotazione del motore fino a quando il regolatore di tensione è attivato, compensando una certa mancanza di valore della luce.
Poiché questo tipo di ispezione da parte delle Autorità è un'occasione irrinunciabile per farmi lavorare seriamente, per un geriatrico, per metà afflitto e per metà divertito.
Di conseguenza, l'ho fatto più precisamente oggi sul mio Beetle 1302 raffreddato ad aria e leggermente aggiustato, alcuni primitivi calcoli matematici che utilizzano la funzione trigonometrica lo rendono possibile nel mio garage chiuso.
Questo è il motivo per cui mi preparo per un controllo periodico di 2 anni da solo, per me stesso e per me stesso.
Il mio sforzo e le mie capacità sono testati e controllati con qualche ragione ogni 2 anni, per evitare l'invecchiamento vorrei continuare questa situazione fino a quando andrò in Paradiso.

Headlight axis inspection

Headlight axis is one of the most important checking procedure in the periodical inspection by the Authorities.
The high beam should be downed at 30 m distance is the standard, so I remember, but recent inspector ordered me to make the axis at the low beam position, how come?
Even my 16 years old TOYOTA Caldina AZT-241W has the light center round mark on the external lens surfaces at high beam position, not low beam. The fact leads me to the conclusion that the axis inspection should be done at the high beam position in the scenery. I suppose that the lighting systems are fundamental different from old theory while the generation when any modified headlight systems had not been forbidden except the regular lighting equipment, 2 round ones or 4 round ones.
Anyway, always I ignore their suggestion and pretend low beam position, but actually high beam, in addition giving slight motor rotation up till the voltage regulator activated, compensating some lack of light value.
As this kind of inspection by the Authorities is an indispensable opportunity to make me work seriously, for a geriatric, half distress and half enjoy.
Consequently, I did it more precisely today on my Air-cooled Beetle 1302 and slightly adjusted, some primitive mathematical calculation utilizing Trigonometric function make it possible in my closed garage.
This is why I prepare for 2 year periodical inspection by myself, for myself and to myself.
My endeavor and capability are tested and inspected with some reason every 2 years, for avoiding aging I would like to continue this situation till I go to Heaven.

DIY ST for Toe-in value adjustment




I make it a rule to fabricate Special Tools for my vehicles as shown.
The toe-in value was investigated for the preparation of the periodical inspection every 2 years by the Authority. The appointment had been done already the other day with Kobe Land Transport Bureau through Internet system.
Of course 3 bottles of 20 l water are set on the driver's sheet for compensation intending precise adjustment, the inspection of toe-in value is performed with driver's weight on the sheet. And moving VW forward and backward on every adjustment procedure to make the stress and tension on the tire surfaces.
As I have some bitter experience to fail the inspection last time because of too much toe value over 5 mm toe-in, that was caused by the fracture of lower arm hinge bushes on both sides. Though I passed the inspection by my handling flexibility, just adjusting the connecting rod length at that time, I didn't know how such kind of discrepancy had been carried out. But, it did not take time to come to the conclusion remembering strange steering reaction while turning phase.
Such kind of experience obliged me to check the actual toe-in value today.
3 mm/1 m toe-in value was obtained utilizing DIY ST and it was adjusted into Zero degree by my own muscle work taking time 30 minutes as a matter of fact.
More gentle and honest steering reaction could be obtained after that.
This kind of fundamental adjustment should be performed at least once per half a year especially on the unstable and movable axle construction vehicle like VW air cooled Beetle 1302.

Organization of belongings

All of the collection on my Camera hobby were thrown away the day before yesterday, the money I received was 1,000,000 yen in all. This kind of decision must be done with all my heart.
However worthy they might be, they had been kept at my hand without demonstrating their potential.
Digitization these days might be one of the reason.
Anyway I feel free now after loosing everything.
Radio control model airplane goods had been done last year as the same as camera this time.
What would be the next? Probably, several low frequency Tube amplifiers would have the same consequence in few days.
Organization of belongings to me is now processing.
