Tele-Elmar 135/4

Finding out the M-Leica lenses in my jank box, Tele-Elmar 135/4(second to the latest model) and Summicron 50/2(same as the latest spherical lens construction) , being used while the silver salt generation.
Former tele lens has been thrown away because of dark color reproduction, heavier weight comparing with triplets and too much muscular resolution and latter has been done because of too good resolution with no mistaking.
Now we can put the object on the imaging element by digital equipment and the modification after shooting is free from care.
I'm going to try these old lenses on M9 Digital M camera tomorrow, on 1st, January 2012.

New PCs and old Beetle

Newly introduced PCs for me, Cheese Hamburger Personal Computer produced by Sofmap, having been pretending dumb finally began to speak. In spite of careful implants from the former PC on the 5 inch bays and same colored pin jack holes fitting on back surface of new PC, they have been keeping silent.　All the annoying decorative lids for DVD drive and cards reader were thoroughly removed for quick accesses, because any ornaments are no need for practice equipments.

The approaching from Control Panel to the in-boarded sound card initial setting procedure could make it possible to enable the voice conversations. I could discern the theme song of Windows 7 for starting and ending for the first time. One of the reason of the hardship may be my poor capability for keeping up the progress in the rapid progress in IT hard and soft wears industries.

I would drive air-cooled VW 1302 Super Beetle after several days interval because XH200 OPEL B-Vectra has been used for luggage transportation on end of this year. The ceremony delving accelerating pedal for activating accelerator pump should start AD motor with shortest cranking in the coldest morning?

Double amount of alcohol last night made me feel almost vomiting, but finally not. A night party for Blowfish dishes with intimate friends from several families raised so much.

Maintenance

Our business closed yesterday for 2011, I must maintain all the equipment and machinery today, especially rubber hoses inside for water supply and compressed air circuitry must be replaced thoroughly after 23 years of use. Plastic(Polyethylene) tube is prepared for the periodical replacement parts as 20m package, blue and green promptly.
They are both standard production, so fitting would be no problem, outer diameter 6mm and inner one 4mm.

Drain hoses have hardened because of age and have some tendency to be out on connecting part when it is risen up excessively for some reason.
Bellows figure may be changed into some softer and flexible silicon tube.
No mechanical defect would not be observed because I have been paying attentions on oil filing on every hinge portion for these 23 years. Vinyl covering has replaced by professional paying a high, over 500,000 yen for 4 machinery in total.

It is very difficult to make a young guy understand the construction of our narrower industry. His action has already destroyed some part of purchasing organization, so I have some difficulty to apologize them for nuisance.
Purchasing materials for our business has no problem, but cracking over a trust relationship having been built for years?

It is against the policy I'm keeping from the beginning, "All are convenient for three directions, a customer, our distributor and our business.". Also, "Quietly, without fuss calling customers," and "I don't want to stand in the wave, because we are all brothers each others.".

Too much sophisticated sound board in new PC do not accept an old speaker system for 5 inch bay with conventional stereo mini pin jacks? So still now my PC keeps dumb? Checking it out is the task for today also.

Sweet reading

Our business this year would be terminated today. Transferring of our laboratory would be in the end of next February, this would be the most conflicting and confusing on earth!

Unnecessary PC new parts packed together for newly introduced machinery must be returned while lunch break today.

Implementation speaker system must be brought from my junk box, otherwise new PCs must keep silent from now. The device is so designed to be installed on frontal face of ATX Tower body at 5 inch bay with 2 USB sockets, these connections would be useful as I have checked the position of pins stud on printed circuitry at the lower part of Mother Board.

Because I do not intend to have some Hi-Fidelity Sound on PC, smallest implementation ones are enough, putting small speakers beside the LCD is the most Potato smelling(We say in Japanese like this).

As for our business, my son becomes friends with some flatterer from a major material retailer, his purpose to contact with a young practitioner is future dealing benefits, it's clear!
Good friendship relations, they are no problem, but not be attributed at all, it should be returned on the spot promptly, otherwise the past borrowing would tie and catch up himself.

I wanna give my son some proverb, "As a wolf resembles a dog, so a flatterer a true friend.".

Again I wanna say, "You may invest but not borrow.".

New PC arrived!

Cheese Hamburger Personal Computers by Sofmap arrived at my laboratory yesterday. There were some mistakes, they packed D-sub-16pins to digital output for analogue LCD because the video card on new PC did not have analogue out put, but arrived one had D-sub-16pins output port, eventually the adapters packed together are not necessary, they would be returned soon.

The former PC was second handed to my sons use and 12 years have passed since it came to me, of course there were maintenance several times including 3 times of HDD changing.
2,5GHz to 3,3GHz transition on CPU speeds makes me feel like completely different world machinery. Though I have been saying to myself, any machinery should be second handed because of prices and capability and fun to recover originally designed performance promptly, smell of new goods reminded me of good younger lives more than a half of century ago.

Additionally, the soft wear Windows 7 is far better and easy to use, as naturally so designed.

Only one problem is FAX modem equipped in the former machinery, PC slot pin socket design is changed into smaller one like Ultra ATA to Serial ATA! Our business field uses ancient communication way because there are many old headed persons in the executive in our society. E-mailing is the reliable and faster way, no?

M-Elmar 135/4 on M9

M-135mm f4 Leica lens is equipped on M9 digital with mechanical range finder camera after two generations, produced for 5 years of period of time 1960 to 1965. Leica M3 was the analogue body for silver salt film at that time and with EV meter the same lens had been used on M6 model. Lenses survives after over a half of century after production. Old production is not always inferior to newest productions.

German products

Clearance adjusting simms were made and inserted spaces upper and lower promptly on drag link of idler arm equipped in VW Super Beetle steering construction yesterday. Naturally removing from linkage and disassembling procedures were required in the coldest season outside in the middle of Winter, Christmas day.

I recommended the cause of hitting noise must be some axial backlash in the idler hinge movement portion, though some noise reduction and frequency were reduced after applying harder grease, still now the noise remains this morning, how come?
More sheets of adjusting simms application or checking of the noise source may be necessary, not so urgent and critical problem, so I guarantee on these inconveniences.

NCP10 TOYOTA Vitz had ultimate performance after replacing lead battery and Microflon additive into motor oil, the oil in power steering gear box had been done last time, so with no complaints.

As for BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US model, not so apparent oil leak is observed on ABS unit, more precise inspection is necessary, just I feel right front and left rear are stronger than left front and right rear because X fluid pipe line connection method is introduced on this model. So there must be small babble in the pipe between ABS unit and brake caliper. The checking on brake system cannot be too persistent to establish the perfect performance.

Trial shooting by Leica M9 with Summilux 50/1,4 and Elmar 135/4 proved the fundamental difference of recognition on the understanding the quality of the picture, it is very similar while the silver salt analogue generation. Kodak imaging element is more sensitive on exposure value, I recognized when EV reduction setting. The taste of expression resembles that of Kodachrome in silver salt periods.
Anyway the evaluation must be done after tweaking more, usability of M9 model is almost the same as M6 analogue model except the difference on imaging area material.

Tasks for today

Strange hitting noise when bounded from the A pillar portion of VW1302 Super Beetle must be checked and eliminated today, otherwise the further use of Beetle would not be interesting because of irritating stimulation, sensitive on such kind of clicking noise as I am since my childhood.

Re-checking of brake fluid leak on ABS unit in BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US model should be also performed because I had destroyed the former good condition by my ill prognosis, unnecessary replacement of brake master cylinder rubber inner parts. I must crack the case at any rate for a bright New Year!

As mentioned before, compensating the lack of ATF and new lead battery introduction, XH200 OPEL B-Vectra has recovered ultimate condition unexpectedly. As for NCP10 TOYOTA Vitz, no driving testing has not been performed after motor oil replacement and Microflon additive application and new 40B19R lead battery introduction, today I'll do that.

The application of Microflon in 3SGE YAMAHA motor in SXE10 TOYOTA Altezza has not yet performed, do that in very near future!

Digital M camera

Leica M9 Digital M camera was presented to me last night as a Xmas gift. The appearance is very similar with M6 I've been using while the silver salt film analogue period.
The advantage of this model is the smallest body with 36-24 full sized format aperture grill, as appreciated a SLR Canon 5D Mk2 model.

Though they have same full sized imaging elements, the way of use and enjoying are different basically, not the seeking of ultimate performance and physical property as a digital device.
In addition it looks like some compact digital camera, the function is different, the LCD shows the picture after shooting only, no focusing and flame setting purposes and these procedures are performed in conventional range finder window and mechanical standimeter informed by way of arm with roller equipped at 12 o'clock position of M bayonet mount that same as before.

I'm going to enjoy this digital device on beginning of next year with old Leica lenses, two 50mm Summicron in different generations, two 50mm Summilux in different generations also and 135mm lenses, Elmar, Hector and Tele-Elmar.

Writing about mechanical range finder camera, I just remembered that this is superior for focusing on wide angle lenses, so some 21mm may be purchased in future, or R/M adapter may make it possible to make use of 15mm R-Super Elmar on M body, because this kind of wide angle view lens does not always require focusing device, just an adequate exposure value only.
Consequently new life may dawn again as a amateur photographer like I had been so over 20 years ago.

Newly two PCs were purchased last night in addition to upper big one, Cheese Hamburger Personal Computer were the name, constructed by Sofmap shop not by maker's factory, with enough performance and capability for my use with half price of ordinal ones.
Windows 7 operating system as they had been installed previously, setting would be 32 bit, because of programs I'm keeping now, switching into 64 bit would be few years later.

Datum transformation is troublesome with the method of USB connected HD as usual, no specific soft wear should be introduced this time because of reliability. Sure method would be invited this time instead.

75D23L car battery for B-Vectra

75D23L lead car battery with 230mm height was modified to adopt with the bay of B-Vectra for European Standard 190mm height mount. Though SUBARU genuine battery clamp needed changing frontal shape a bit, no making hole nor special crafting were necessary.
Tremendous improvement in motor performance was observed after obtaining new powerful battery.

The perception that I have been keeping in my mind was completely destroyed. The purpose of battery is only for initial combustion of the motor and electric supply is done by alternator once after starting, so the capability required for the battery is starter motor's initial rotation.

This idea was completely different from the phenomena. The battery plays a great performance of the motor even after starting. Eye opening power increase was observed and I had some difficulty to control acceleration pedal not to run but to go.

Cold villa

A seal packing would be prepared for the adaptation on ABS connection with a brake pipe to stop oil leak and the bubble inside of the piping would be removed, still now the brake pedal touching is not favorable. A careless mistake leaves the root of long lasting evil on earth!
We cannot be too careful to maintain the oil pressure circuitry of braking system in an automobile.

Lead battery replacements on XH200 OPEL B-Vectra and fixing clump would be modified for adapting Japanese standard 75D23L battery, making 4 holes of 6mm diameter on the supporting base plate would be enough to serve.
40B19R smaller one had been obtained already yesterday for NCP10 TOYOTA Vitz, also today's task this is.

On the Japanese calender, yesterday was winter solstice, meaning coldest season has come.

ABS unit burdened

The luggage from Akita prefecture arrived at my laboratory just abound noon today, the air pressure hose ordered came together. As I planned I could apply used ABS control unit was mounted in the original position of the engine room of BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US model.

Opening the control unit found out the parts engraved BOSCH, reminding me of the Licensed production according to BOSCH patented ABS system.

Only on the inlet 1/8 pipe connecting portion I found out oil leakage, this problem had been foreseen prior to the working, the ill fitting result did not discourage me so much, countermeasure for the oil leakage is the same as brake hose replacement 5 years ago. Aluminum alloy thin sheet simm would be inserted between the coupling surfaces, it's prepared in my mind as a task for tomorrow.

Tomorrow would be an inadequate day for going out, because the traffic should be so crowded for the meeting of two conditions, international holiday and the end of the month with the end of the year. Staying at pit is the better working in good humor.

Impending transfer dead line

The date of moving working places is almost fixed on the end of February next year, so now is the time to get into serious work for cleaning and maintenance.

The connecting corrugated hose between upper supitton and lower outlet has become hard loosing flexibility resulting in missing from the outlet nipples, natural changing of physical property for long time of period, 23 years interval from the beginning.

There are two ways for the countermeasure, replace into the same new ones and another way is different hoses made of silicon rubber material with some modification making a loop on the way intentionally for the necessary length when the body would be raised up to the utmost position.

Lighting system equipped in the machinery must be maintained adequately especially worn switches.

Careful checking on hose returning ribbon spring also necessary, some of hoses have weak returning pulling tension, one of two ribbon spring must be broken inside for long lasting use.

Air & water spraying guns must be the most complicated repairing procedures, air and water controlling valve body have rusted 2mm screw that easily breaks on screw head before being loosen. 8 devices must be checked and ring rubber valves parts would be replaced.

Water pressure regulators equipped promptly must be disassembled and cleaned with lubrication, because crystal chlorine components often blocks the passage of the water.

The O shape rubber rings designed in the device would be also checked, taking time and troublesome on earth, but do I ask these kind of works to other person if he may be a professional person? Not because of expenses but because of reliability to rely on for the daily working , I'll never ask those tasks for the dealer.

Over 10 years of procedure on reconstruction automobile changed myself into such constitution.
I cannot rely on other person to ask tightening single bolt in the device. I'll do that by myself however tired I might be.

Busy holiday

The failure on the work of the master cylinder rubber parts replacement in BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US model has been brought out only by my ego and selfish and pseudo confidence based on poor experiences and self-deceptions, so lust an expected affair a week ago would be a good self-examination material in my mind. Ordered pressure hoses, 0640 did not come to us from same Osaka and ABS control unit for BC7 SUBARU from Akita Pref not yet, probably tomorrow?

Maintenance for device & equipment

My PC must have been broken, the residence of primary master IDE connection is lost and BIOS first step tells disabled, but actually connected, with several times of main switch on and off and C-MOS clearing by jumper connector recover the performance but it takes too long period of time to appear the desk top.

This is a very bad tendency as usual to loose all of the datum inside of HDD, because the fundamental data to show the existence of HDD is almost lost. I feel now is the time to renew my PC in laboratory room, being old enough more than 10 years with several times of maintenance, HDD replacement 3 times and now SATA HDD is connected by way of Ultra connection adapter.
Operating system is improved into Windows 7 now instead of XP professional in my PC?

The air pressure regulator for our business machinery has some inconvenience after 23 years use. pressure leak and coupling plastic destruction. The maker and parts numbers have been obtained from Web site.

Finding out much more cheaper parts with the same physical performances at very lower price, 1,800/@ yen, without any hesitation ordered I two pieces of them to Okinawa.
Though I felt some regret because of distance from Osaka, such kind of anxiety has wiped out thoroughly after the information that they shipped the same day as ordered.

Also air pressure hose and water hose were ordered by 20 m bulk to the professional dealer in Osaka, UB0640-20-G and UB0640-20BU were the parts numbers bringing us in few days.

Direct ordering to the distributors promptly saves money to 1/10, because the distribution margins are too large to ignore in our field.

10 times price is somehow crazy, no?

Just coming a serviceman with doing nothing, they charge 10,000 yen in our field, how come?
And all the parts brought to the field cost 10 times of originally general distribution price?

I'm always prepared for paying on reasonable charge but not for unreasonable demand marinating in the opponent's weaknesses.

This year ends soon

Is it possible for a young guy graduated 2 years ago to manage a researching laboratory having been proven for more than 20 years? When shall I commend all the management of our laboratory?
I will make it a rule not to meddle in my son's way after the commend, except the moment he would need any support or assistance.
All the design of new laboratory near by us has been performed by him and my traces was thrown away, in spite of established and scientifically proven concept of firm conviction. Over 40 years experiences and scientific constructions were completely destroyed by a just graduated young guy?

To tell the truth my conception of his future life is---he may live anywhere he wants, any place from Hokkaido to Kyusyu Okinawa including even outside of Japan because his life style must be decided by himself without being influenced by any sweet food just in front of his half closed eyes.

His mother insists on the instinctive notion, keeping him at her hand and she is afraid of run far away from Osaka. So the new laboratory only for him is an indispensable way to bring in food.
In the designing of new laboratory, even a piece of interjection of my opinion is strictly prohibited by her. Objection---but an old researcher is just going to disappear never die.

An European standard car battery for XH200 OPEL B-Vectra has a critical problem, death of one cell caused basic voltage reduction, probably internal shorting of the terminals, no way to resuscitate! over \20,000 for 2 years!.

40B19R battery for NCP10 TOYOTA Vitz would be obtained, because the lack of starting capability had been pointed out by the engineer in Netz TOYOTA Takarazuka yesterday when motor oil was changed, 5W30 Castle genuine oil used as long as 2 years.
Now all the motor oil changing tasks are over this end of the year, residual tasks would be next year, the preparations for Legal Inspection for BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US model in January, NCP10 TOYOTA Vitz in February and XH200 OPEL B-Vectra in May, three in all!.

BC7, NCP10 and 11AD

Reassembling lower pistons of ABS unit for BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US model was in vain as a pipe dream today. Being unchanged the oil leakage phenomena was exactly the same as last Thursday's misfortune.

The standard number as SUZUKI WAGON R 3 branched joint was selected for the inviting parts. The specific parts number is already recorded for ordering tomorrow. Rear brake line joint for ABS-less model was selected as new replacement parts.

Anyway this BC7 Legacy must be established within this year for Legacy Inspection in next January.
I have a strong intention and patience to make her pass the Inspection with all of my efforts and at any cost.

Motor oil replacement was performed on NCP10 TOYOTA Vitz today and additional charging also, as relatively soon 15,54 Volt was attained so the life of the lead battery is almost ruined.
About the unpleasant noise caused by excessive backlash on DOJ in drive shafts has no danger of any critical accident just require the driver's patience on the small noise that's discerned only when the steering was moved deeply at slower speed, in the parking situation.

The rear sway bar for Beetle with torsion bar spring model was checked and explored the possibility of modification for applying to IRS model's axle. Difficult but not impossible was the future prospects.

Solex 34PICT3 carburetor works well in stable condition, both phase in acceleration and in transitions including idling mixture and automatic choke position. Engine stop tendency while idling soon after cold starting disappeared.

In very near future, thrust angle of Super Beetle would be checked again and adjusted more precisely to the extent in plus minus 20 second's error, carrying out by adjusting front axle laterally 1 or 2 mm as a final setting up.
This lateral offset correction would attain more stable steering reaction while straight running.

At a loss!

The meeting yesterday with a special engineer in OSAKA SUBARU Tezukayma gave me some courage and hope to continue 20 years old first generation BC7 Legacy LSi US model.
Seriously at a loss am I which way should be chosen!
The same replacement second handed parts, ABS control unit is exhibited in YaHoo auction at 5,000 yen, reasonable price, this fact is already confirmed. With this parts my BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi would recover an original braking performance in peace, over 10 kg weight for ABS control unit would be reproduced again, and the Legal Inspection would be passed with no problem in next January.

Eliminating ABS system from BC7 may be possible to pass the Inspection Test if the braking system was modified so long as the required braking capability might be established F/R promptly.
Just I'm at a loss which to chose, back together again as it was or the over 10kg weight reduction on the nose position anteriorly from over hung point spoiling indispensable quick steering reaction?

What a day before yeasterday?

Consulting with SUBARU customer's center in Tokyo proved the error the day before yesterday had been brought out by my own critical mistaking on the bubble removing procedure in the pressure circuitry, simply wrong turn.
The bubble in a pipe between the brake master cylinder and ABS unit should be removed first, but I did it as the final turn, falling into Hell!

The invasion of bubble should be avoided otherwise pressure O shape rubber ring would be pinched and cut resulting critical oil leak, so written in the service manual, I had not read the most important information, it's 100 % my business.

Only the ABS unit in BC7 had 2 breather nipples in the 6 automobile I'm keeping now and I had not pay attention the importance of the turns of breathing procedure, no apology is no meaning after the critical accident on earth!

In the YaHoo auction the same ABS unit is exhibited by chance at 5,000 yen with shipping fee 1,000 yen. I'll attend the auction and try to apply the used parts in BC7 at least the end of next week?

I'll go out to Southern OSAKA this after noon with removed ABS unit in ill condition to Tezukayama branch of OSAKA SUBARU for much more deeper negotiation about the future use of BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US model, there working a special mechanical engineer who served WRC as service chief engineer actually who has been supporting me with worthy advices for more than 10 years.

Miserable BC7 SUBARU!

New replacement parts ordering to maker's depot at 176,000 yen.

Repair the parts mainly on O shape rubber rings replacement without no information nor parts supply by no one. Second handed parts from some junkyard may be possible.

Direct pipe lines connection utilizing modified proportioning control valves(two pieces). Checking for the necessity of the pressure control because of lack of ABS system, PCV as an alternative device?

I prefer the third choice, because of the elimination of heavy weight of ABS control unit and also direct pedal touch may be desired. But remember the ABS failure warning bulb in the meter cluster must be removed for annoying flashing.

In order to avoid the overpayment of Tax, I must spend some amount of income within this month.

2 personal computers for my business and for private use. 300,000 yen.

ABS failure

Working for BC7 SUBARU Legacy

The brake master cylinder inner kit would be opened today for BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US model, remembering the past she has no experience to be serviced on brake master cylinder for 20 years, so now is the very opportunity to be done on critical safety mechanism, though operating cylinders in disk brake calipers were serviced when they were replaced into newer specification for disk rotors, F/R 15".

Question is the necessity of removing air bubble in the brake line, ABS unit inside? I've ever experienced with draining air nipples, then the air removing procedures are required on every nipple point or not? Actually the necessity would be proved when serviced today.

An automobile that has some bad habit on handling would be deserted relatively soon with no attachment. The performance and stability of VW AD motor equipped in 1302 Super Beetle recovered probably almost and utmost condition with some vigorous and aggressive reaction in any phase.
Now the complaint on my Beetle occurred in the rear suspension, no sort of vague, deformable with viscoelasticity arm supports.
This kind of deformable hinge material brings dull and muddy steering reaction, especially very beginning stage from centric steering position. Delayed reaction like this may cause driving fatigue.
New application of rear sway bar and trailing arm bushes in and out may improve the desirable stability leading to some steering reaction astringency.
Problems comes out one after another as usual.

People visiting here is invited for a Beer Plant Tour, not only for a lunch restaurant.
As it was a holiday yesterday, gave up I the tour taking 1 hour of period of time, I would try next chance.

I found out the voltage of note PC power supply is 16,65V, may be possible to utilize as a car battery charger if some safety circuitry might not be activated while charging.

40 years ago with Beetle

I happened to come across with the Web site that we had been making researches 40 years ago, I and he had been young guys each other but now both of us are old enough to represent some companies with white hairs?
My brain pulled up to the institute that I had belonged about 15 years of interval and the memories came up my mind so clearly to hear their voices behind of my ears, yes, good old days had remembered in the back of my eyelids.

VW 1302 rear suspension

The steering characteristics of air-cooled VW had been improved by introducing strut axle construction on frontal suspension and semi trailing arm application for rear geometry in 1970 rolling out from the production line as a Super Beetle.

But now after the reconstruction of the specific model 1302 produced only for one year, still I feel some criticism while passing curves, the anti-rolling stability of rear axle is not enough. Judging from the property of rear axle without sway bar, small construction of anti-rolling device may far improve the steering property, especially the transient would be changed.

Careful inspection of rear axle construction of my 1302 Super Beetle found out some implanted holding bolts on the body for genuine sway bar actually, but no supporting blacked on the trailing arm end at suitable position like for swing arm simple models?

Then, there is a great possibility to apply a genuine sway bar if the supporting bracket parts might be constructed at adequate position for linking action with any modification and the genuine sway bar kit might be obtained. Yes, I got it from Yahoo auction at 1,000 yen already!

As there are many kind of linking arm with ball joint ends, any diversion of the linking mechanism may be applicable, problem exists only at the supporting blacked portion.
I'll modify and arrange on this problem and overcome and conquer this barrier very soon.

Thermostat for air-cooled VW

Chronic disease show up unexpectedly as it gets cold in air-cooled VW 1302 Super Beetle, basically the cause of dysfunction to stool of motor while idling phase is caused by the sleeping thermostat equipped on #4 cylinder playing a part of shutting the cooling air flap while it is cold, but the thermostat does not work keeping the flap fully opened leading to over cooling phenomena. Even air-cooled AD motor requires some warming up stage, the broken part of thermostat gives too much cooling air flow when the motor wants more heating for initial stage of combustion.

Though I am going to try to cheat this inconvenience by prolonging the time period of automatic choking phase.
The lack of thermostat function is clarified according to the colder climate temperature.
The colder the worse the condition becomes.

Preparations for cold

The coldest morning we had before dawn today, below zero degree celsius. The over cooling tendency of air-cooled VW 1302 Super Beetle has increased non-negligibly. Additional 5 minutes choking interval is necessary, otherwise it is impossible to continue idling rotation of AD motor. Deeper consideration led me to several ways of countermeasures.

Just simply rotate more counter-clockwise the automatic choke module.

Add the adequate resistor in series connection to down the voltage on bi-metal actuator's sensitivity of the module.

Replace into new parts, the broken parts of the thermostat actuator that is criminal causing this inconvenience, very difficult to acquire now that is not reproduced now all over the world.
Some experiment must be necessary to establish the solving conclusion for upper problem.

I gave up to insist on the theory to sustaining the life of car batteries and I would purchase new ones, B type and D type promptly. Even for new battery, additional and initial charging are necessary.

The brake master cylinder in BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US model would be performed, periodical replacement genuine parts has been prepared already, because no servicing had not been done since 20 years ago after the production, go ahead immediately before any brake trouble might be triggered. Brake fluid type 3 must be obtained.

Idling & Battery

The motor stability after cold starting in my VW 1302 Super Beetle has been influenced by the changes in ambient temperature, just the warming interval is not enough and the tendency of plug smoldering. As the intake manifold has some pipe linkage to warm the intake air, it must be clogged, inviting icing phenomena?

In addition the idling speed is not enough to warm up cylinders now, might be some clogging in orifice in the carburetor construction, according to my over 40 years experience with 30 automobiles I feel so. Some countermeasure must be worked out now.

I made up my mind to buy a new automobile lead battery for XH200 OPEL B-Vectra not as a genuine European Standard size but as Japanese D type battery with almost the same Electric Capacitance and with the same terminals on both side but not as the height, 20mm higher but acceptable in battery bay without any modification. Problem is the way of mounting fixation, some upper clump must be applied with hooks.

Additionally comparing them on the physical property and the actual performance as an automobile battery, there are apparent difference, once the sulfation occurred on the terminal surface, it's difficult to recover for foreign brand productions if special charging method might be applied.

I'm going to obtain new batteries, 40B19R for NCP10 TOYOTA Vitz and 55D23L For SXE10 TOYOTA Altezza.

Two German cars

The lead battery has problem on XH200 OPEL B-Vectra recently, there may be some dark current, lack of charging capability or starter motor armature or brush dysfunction?

However hard I may inspect the circuitry I couldn't find out any short cut tendency, the resistance value was enough.

The connection on the plus terminal on the alternator with battery must be reconstructed additionally, not yet.

The wiring from battery plus terminal to starter motor supply is not checked yet.

This kind of car trouble has no way to be grasping and has some tendency to be protracted, so the effort to be solved sooner is the better way, try to wipe out any bad feeling like this!

As an experimental trial, D type battery was applied on the standard European style battery space with the condition that the terminals are same size on plus and minus terminals promptly, GM- X20 motor started immediately without any hesitating reactions.

On the other hand, as for air-cooled VW 1302 Super Beetle:
The inconvenience caused by the lack of the thermostat function is difficult to be compensated by extending the time period of automatic choke heater's action.

Over cooling phenomena cannot be compensated without shutting the flaps mechanically by the thermostat activation.
Basically the inconvenience caused by the dysfunction of the specific device cannot be compensated by another method, being essentially impossible.

Then, how about looking for the thermostat parts, though I have never come across this parts in the Web site?

DC power supply

Stable power supply has been obtained for free of charge and been checked inside on my personal curiosity. Three transistors were observed and three terminal semiconductors also. The bulk of transformer and the heat sink backward would supply at least 20A, though the out put voltage is not known.

Some indicator must be prepared on the surface, showing voltage and current, a rotary switch for various voltage also being planned on the frontal surface. This kind of electric DC power supply is convenient for me to arrange to any directions?

Auto-Choke & Heater

The adjustment of the automatic choke interval was effective enough to prolong the idling up period of time, but still 3 minutes extension angular rotation of the choke module is necessary for establishment.
The dysfunction of thermostat to control the cooling air flow volume flap at cold starting phase is the criminal to make me trouble so much. The lack of thermostat function must be compensated by adjusting the automatic choke module.
This kind of interesting adjustment is not troublesome but is one of a fun to be enjoyed. The choke module adjustment would be finished soon with good performance.

VW 1600 cc air-cooled motor has the best matching with Solex 34PICT3 single carburetor, not so bad as reported in the Web sites, if the adjustment was performed correctly especially on the air volume control screw adjustment.
Relatively low compression means not so peaky property, mild and gentle performance would be desired from the constructive designing of this motor.

The performance of steering reaction differs depending on the volume of fuel in the frontal tank, in the fulfilled condition it's stable, though the caster angle must be less than it's empty condition. The stability is lost according to the fuel consumption.

Feeling I am the lack of the capability of heater in this winter weather condition, checking all the hot air way flaps is necessary tomorrow, on wire linkage and flaps movement promptly.
The performance of heat exchanger and icing phenomena preventing exhaust gas way combined with intake manifold must be checked, because it's often clogged.

Steering gear box

Long waited replacement parts arrived a few hours ago, steering gear box for right side steering positioning VW 1302 Super Beetle. The life of right steering gear box is that of the 1302 Super Beetle, because no further new parts supply is desired all over the world now.
Thank to obtaining this tight and firm like new conditioned parts, my anxiety and any fear to loose this steering gear box equipped in my VW 1302 Super Beetle have thoroughly wiped out, probably more half a century of it's life expansion would be imagined in future.

As the drag link parts has no angle limiter bolts in the photo of YaHoo auction for early 1303 model, the same model with the gear box, the question has been solved completely, control arm connected with gear box had the limiter designing instead.
This parts looks like some jewel, would be disassembled carefully, be cleaned and assembled with adequate lubrication of soft grease containing extreme pressure additive, Microflon.

Leitz lenses

Showing three of my favorite tele-photo lenses by Leitz Germany. Now all of them are used on Canon Digital SLR camera with full contentment.
Especially lighter and smaller Canadian Leitz 90/2,8 Elmarit is the tool at my side. Because this simple construction lens has no extra gentle favor to satisfy amateur requests. Newly introduced high-intensity low-dispersion lanthanum glasses were used in the element.

Leitz's "Kante" theory has been still alive in two heavier tele-photo lenses, 280mm and 180mm.
I have no reason to release these except the weights.

Problems

Though VW 1302 Super Beetle is cooled by air flow, the thermostat mechanism is equipped. As a common sense, thermostat is so controlled to control water flow while the coolant is cold at cold starting stage, air-cooled old VW Beetle has the same to control cooling air flow when cylinder is cold.

But this mechanical bi-metal actuator to shut and to open the air flow of cylinder cooling has some tendency to fall into dysfunction, fully opened when it is out order, causing over cooling phase after the cold start while a minutes.
Recent change of atmospheric temperature to below 10 degree celsius revealed this hidden inconvenience, lack of enough warming up period of time invites stool obliging a driver to open throttle valve.

Realized I that any unnecessary device had not been designed by the factory even 40 years ago, air flap actuating thermostat device.
I'm not sure that I could compensate the lack of thermostat controlling by adjusting the automatic choke controller. 5 to 10 degree counterclockwise rotation would prolong the choking phase?

The way of thinking "The client the first" that my son wants to invite for designing new laboratory would cause inevitable stress on the practitioner instead.
The reason why the designing by my son has introduced this time is to make it easy for him to come back to OSAKA, his mother's earnest wish influenced on the planning.

Probably the red automobile like a racing car for a circuit use was driven by a layman, especially motor mid-shipped racing car is impossible to be controlled enough by ordinal drivers.

About the designing of new laboratory, very difficult it is to compensate what the designing lacks, because the key points and focus points are completely different, as he says the customer segments would be changed thoroughly in future.

Today we decided to construct our new laboratory with the designing based on my son's planning thoroughly, no room to insert my opinion a little.
Too many captains in a boat it goes up to the mountain, as proverb says, things never make a step forward, determined I being refrain from saying any opinions on this constructive planning.
His drawing has made progress day by day, recommending him to be a great designer.
As for me, any designing will do if the working place was prepared there within the limited date, the end of the February next year.

He must have satisfactions to see the constructor here introduced by me. The further negotiations would be done with him directly.
Anyway the meeting today was so worthy for all of us, spearing time as long as 3 hours.
Today, things have a boundary significantly advance.

VW 1302 steering gear box

The information about the steering gear box on Air-Cooled VW 1302 Super Beetle revealed that the replacement parts for right side steering model are not produced by any suppliers all over the world. It means that the life of right steering 1302 Beetle is decided only by that of Worm gear in the steering box on earth!

Finding out a very seldom auction in YaHoo, I've got it at relatively high originally served price 5,000 yen, though the gear box had been equipped in 1303 early model, for later one had Rack & Pinion designing.
Experienced seller was so conscientious according to my several experiences, the price on the steering box this time may not so great, because I have never come across with this specific old parts even in e-bay.
Any way I will disassemble the gear box few days later at the latest on coming Thursday, I'm looking forward to doing that.

Recognition on Auto lead battery

I must change the recognition of automobile led battery, replacing batteries on BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US model into into fully charged D type from 6 years old Europe standard one with the sign of enough specific gravity of electrolyte inside.
20mm lower height and with the same size terminal diameter and taper angle on plus and minus promptly, interchangeable if lack the height is compensated by some adapter.

Though I have a recognition that the automobile battery should rotate the ring gear outside of flywheel and give some spark at initial stage of motor starting phase. Then once the motor was started, all the electricity necessary for activating the car should be supplied from the alternator rotated by the motor power, so the physical performance of the lead battery has no direct effect on that of the car itself. The performance of the alternator has the dictator of an electric supply, if once the motor started.

But this perception was completely changed by the eye opening improvement in every performance of BC7 Legacy after the replacement of the batteries
Even on this D type battery, once deserted after 3 year use by my son with fully discharging condition, and I repaired it with special charging method, Trickle charging act, small current with relatively high voltage and pulsing circuitry.

Conclude I that the absolute reduction in capacity in automobile led battery does harm on every performance of the performance of the motor.

BOSCH 120A alternator is limited at 13,5V with only 2 terminals plus B and for charge lamp, DENSO 70A one in BC7 Legacy has the limited at 14,5V, I think this difference of 1V has much to do with the life of the Automobile Lead Battery, especially the car was used in relatively slow traffic speed conditions.

Ceramic heater

Deserted ceramic heater was repaired with connecting power supply wiring and the air was cleaned , no thermal fuse was destructed and heater was alive.

Equipped AC motor is called as skeleton motor with the advantage of cheap, simple and small.
Two phases are created by two turning stout copper wiring around the outer pole, especially because of making shadow phase, this type of motor is called as "Kumatori Motor" in Japan.
"Kumatori" is the very special way of make up of the face in Japanese traditional stage arts "Kabuki", zebra pattern of shadow making way. This kid of pole induction motor is mainly used for family fan, the difficulty to control speed is cleared by recent sophisticated circuitry designing methods utilizing an inverter.

Supporting main plane bronze bush bearing of the motor was lubricated with extreme pressure additive containing grease, Microflon. Also rotary switch was lubricated on mechanical cam motion portions.
