Operation on VW1302 Super Beetle


Exactly the same phenomena happened to air-cooled VW 1302 Super Beetle(minus 0,840 minutes thrust angle corrected) as another cars I had done before after establishing it's wheel alignment and axle constructive geometry, so the mechanical construction of driving wheel does not matter on the phenomena whatever wheel might be driven even with 4 wheels driven design. Though wanna I conclude on this phenomena "Driving train does not affect on the steeling stability while straight running", further experiments would be waited if it should be concluded scientifically on earth, more precise devices with more accuracy and repeated attempt would be necessary.
In order to adjust the thrust angle of Super Beetle, rear trailing arm outer axis was extended and shortened on the circular movement by rotating the trailing arm with the inner hinge axis point, though wheel base change happens at the same time. But, the rear axle construction does not permit independent adjustment promptly.
Also, mechanical constructive design on steeling system, no matter how it is Rack & Pinion or Worm Gear box type does not affect on the fundamental character of steeling centric stability.
Today, some fine parts adjustment on Super Beetle and the arrangement of removed parts from former working chair would be the tasks.

Returned Super Beetle has some critical problem I cannot accept, it's mold smell I hate most. Making up my mind to remove all the fur board insulator including thin plaster plates. Relatively thick rubber sheet would be a good alternative material that I have been keeping for my working place construction, some plaster board for architectural building material would be applied in addition to rubber preventing motor noise invasion. This countermeasure for mold would be looking forward work in future, so motor noise would come into cabin for the time being.
By the way, my Super Beetle has a big inspection window on the rear floor, this rectangular hole had been formed later for air conditioning system to set condenser horizontally here, I removed all of the retrofit system, tail down figure by the heavy compressor and the condenser with blower are not my favorite, before that a huge size compressor occupying motor room prevents me from easy access for maintenance. Consequently, the big hole is not closed completely for the maintenance convenience.
