Hakone Yumoto in Odawara

Hakone Yumoto is very famous for the basic point of sightseeing and various kind of resorts are scattered along with both Sukumo-River and Haya-River. The location of the place is 85 minutes from Shinjuku and 110 minutes from Haneda Airport. The traffic convenience makes the distance shorter than imagination.

You can reach to Gora in short period of time passing through deep in the mountains and bridges if you take a ride on a cute red train of  Hakone climbing rail way starting from Hakone Yumoto station. Yosegi-tukuri wooden box is available at the souvenir shop and no anxiety of food because there are tea shops, snack shops and Nuudle like Soba shops.

There are over 40 Supa-inns at Hakone Yumoto, sufficient hospitality also in cooking, it's good to walk around there and another way is spending all day long in side of the inn regardless with time passes. Historically famous and traditional place has some specific atmosphere existing natural circumstances, an artificial space in the city is good but staying in the natural environment will give you more.

Over 20 natural springs there and the place was founded in 0757 Nara period with 1,200 years history by Jyoteibou. Smallpox treatment was the initial purpose at that time. The historic hot spring lasting as long as 1,500 years is one of the representative one all over our country. It will continue so long as it becomes exhausted.

As a matter for regret, recently, ceremonies and events held there are cancelled or shrunk because of SARS CoV-2 disaster. I hope the former liveliness would be recovered soon.

Edge distortion

 The rate of edge distortion were evaluated on 50mm standard lenses and zoom lenses by shooting a rectangular shape with 3:2 aspect ratio testing 30 objects in total.

All the fixed focal length lenses had barrel shape distortion and zoom lenses did string reel spindle shape contortion.

Excellent results were Tokina SZ-X 60~300mm/f4.0~5.6, RMC Tokina 35~105mm/f3.5~4.5 2nd Edition, MD Zoom Rokkor 50~135mm/f3.5, Tokina SD 28~70mm/f3.5~4.5 and Leica R Macro Elmarit 60mm/f2.8. 

As a matter for regret, worst were expected Minolta MD Zoom 35~135mm/f3.5~4.5 and similar shaped MD Zoom 35~105mm/f3.5~4.5, though color reproduction, sharpness and resolution are favorable, may be the limit of tolerance in spindle warp.

Unexpectedly, recently obtained Fujinon Zoom 43~75mm/f3.5~4.5 got the higher score.

Kind of wordplay

The necessity of that idea is similar in every field. Establishing secure image and reproduce exactly as it is, this is the way to eliminate failure.

But for actual image construction prior to the affair, no success is desired. 

Judging from the third point of view, any professional photographer must have made up his mind fixed before going out for the work preparing a certain image to be shot. There exists no hesitation or feeling sway, because if so, profession as a shooter does not hold.

It is often informed that "Enjoy taking photographs!", I wonder if it is enjoyable so much to be taken it easy? It is very hard for me to do that. Enjoyable hobby work sometimes changed into hard task on my experience before.

My imagination on the Google Map to the point that the angle of view to catch all the Akasi Big Bridge was around 60 degree observed from Tarumi area. It was quite a hit that Hexanon 43 mm modified lens was brought with me.

SONY Image Edge for remote & longer shutter

 I'm going to shoot "Akashi-Big-Bridge" this evening and the meeting place for our group is Sanyo-Tarumi. Though the instructor says 200mm telephoto lens is suitable for the location, 35~40mm focal length is required to catch all the bridge from Tarumi judging from the angle on the map, 60 degree, how come? 

On the other hand, doing from Maiko-Park just very near from the bridge girder, considerable wider angle lens would be required without argument. The nearer shooting point allows more dynamic pics. As an experienced photographer's opinion, it is worth turning my ears to him.

As my decision for today, Tokina 60~300 for ordinary all purposes and Hexanon 43 mm/f2.8 for emergency would be brought with me today. As it is a modified lens from Konica Auto 35 Range Finder Camera, and set in Minolta 50mm lens barrel, smaller and lighter. Shortest 60mm focal length, wide angle substitution in impossible is the reason. 

The location around seaside in severe condition might require jumpercoat around 10 degree celsius atmosphere. No symptom of rain is informed by the forecast. Cold but not much so I guess. I hope that strong wind blowing will not happen, Typhoon is coming across to our country land so warning tells.

In the darkness some lighting support is necessary to setup and to check the numerical datum, a smartphone will be helpful and SONY Image Edge application program will also be helpful for remote shutter activation in slow shutter situation.

Also, all the work would be done in the darkness at night, Velbon One tough Quick shoe is prepared to avoid any unnecessary screw tightening procedure. Supporting point extension plate to meet with CG point is set prior to the actual scenery.

Manual mode, mechanical shutter, ISO 50 and closing iris utmost conditioned allows me longer shutter opening than 30 sec in Image Edge program, various trial at the scenery would be tried without mechanical connections for long time exposure. 

Do not do anything unnecessary at the shooting site. Do all the preparations that I can do at home priorly. When the shutter is released as I imaged, pull it up immediately, no longer stay is useless at all, this is my iron rule.

Do desperate effort on what once decided to do is my way, otherwise not interesting at all, better stop do that if I do not exert myself utmost on it. Hobby work is far hard task for me than any business!  It is tough but I cannot stop, the moment I stop is that of my heart stops.

Hirakata Park & Kiku-Ningyo

 I participated in a photo-shooting school at Hirakata Park as a work production yesterday. As a matter for regret, the weather condition was not so favorable with dark cloud in the morning but became better as get closer to noon.

Trial visiting last week provided me of useful information especially on the requirement of the suitable focal length of the lens. Consequently, Minolta MD Zoom 35~135/f3.5~4.5 brought yesterday took effect in time, depending on the intended objects.

About the ticket of the Hirakata Park is available at Umeda Station Bldg. almost at half a price priorly. Depending on the chance, the price deviates, so it differs on the shops, try several ones.

Though Hirakata Kiku-Ningyo Festival starts today, we could see the performances of preparations yesterday, the flower arranger is required specific sensitivity as a professional, she is called "Kiku-shi" meaning a specialist of Kiku flower arrangement. 

Western clothed doll was also exhibited in a beautiful condition in addition to usual Kimono styles ones, everyone must enjoy some extraordinary atmosphere, entrance is free of charge.

Active today!

 It's a group shooting day today at Hirakata Park, it rained yesterday but cleared up today, feeling any good luck I'll try. As I felt some lack of focal length in one scenery when I carried 35~105 zoom lens last time, I exchanged it into 35~135 for better result. 

Weather forecast tells not so cold in the daytime, it will be so favorable to shoot. Good atmospheric condition does not always provide good result or opposite result may happen?

Keeping or advancing the capability once acquired is very difficult for retired geriatric both physiologically and intelligently. I know that once giving up I will fall down on steep inclination, and boring world world is waiting for me.

As my social situation after retiring from everything, no binding factor or inhibiting side pear exists at all, a brilliant future is waiting for me under the condition of my condition is the same as now, unless I get sick physically and emotionally?

I wonder if the Vaccine Passport is available if it had been a Placebo medicine? Though the needle pain was the same? The attitude telling 　as Placebo itself might be Placebo? Only small tag with specific number knows the truth?

Uzurano runway & Kate

 Writing about "Kate and Mabel".

Convenient priority

 Later model of manual focusing standard zoom lenses has Pseudo Macro mechanism magnifying around 1/4 magnification. Thanks to this convenience, I have never imagined in my mind recently about Macro lens for ordinary shooting. 

Of course I know the advantage of dedicated designing mainly on the quality of resolution especially under 1X magnification or less. But the difference would be revealed if compared precisely.

Before that least opportunity to bring around fixed focal length lense has decreased at all, convenience of zooming function makes me lazy to follow the principle that I believe in. Loose character is my innate one.

Anyway, zooming and macro shooting are my desire hidden in deeper part of my mind betraying distinctive ideas. A man is often pulled down to sweeter direction unconsciously, probably gene arrangement of human being must be same as an ant on this point.

Without deeper consideration I would carry Minolta MD-Zoom 35~105/f3.5~4.5 with me for shooting on SONY Alpha, it was obtained by chance in some Umeda Photo shop at 3,000 yen recently.

I realize that the new commer lens makes me regard faded what I used to love, the emotional phenomena resembles that between girl friend relationships. 

In Buddhism it is said that people moves if all the requirement were fulfilled. This is why miserable affair occurs no matter how much ethics, morals and social conventions might regulate. 

Old Fujinon-Z test shooting

 I had an opportunity to test shoot an old lens, Fujinon-Z 43~75/f3.5~4.5 obtained at the cheapest price in the Yahoo Auction the other day. Sharpness, resolution and color are acceptable but it had a habit to produce flashy Ghost when back light is just at opposite side. Though it is a drawback, acceptable for me as a useful disadvantage, making use of some way of expression.

Lucky bidding!

 Since yesterday early morning temperature makes me feel cold at all, climate change happened this year occurred so suddenly, take best care not to have a cold in this severe condition of Viral disaster.

As is often the case I bid 1 yen Yahoo Auction and I got it with no competitor, the comment of the item inhibited their willingness to buy.In addition, zooming ratio below 2 must be a reason to be ignored. 

What I wanna in this item is not Ratio but the taste and smell of resolution at that old time, the endeavor done by the engineers of the research and developing division. The product established by their desperate effort at that time tells everything.

Arrived lovely one had some clogg on zooming sliding mechanism, consistent push and pull action on focusing ring started to move gradually and it's action was revived smooth as to be used normally, no disassembled procedure for oiling was necessary.

Consequently waiting am I the Sunrise this morning intending test shooting for Fuji 43~75 zoom lens, relatively rare one? A lens hood nust be prepared that has adequate depth with 49 mm thread diameter. 

Everything is Unusual!

 Just before noon 11:43 Mt. Aso Nakadake exploded with Pyroclastic flow, not small. Warning level has raised up to 3 with mountain entry restrictions. TV news tells so clearly from the beginning to eruption in order, it is a largest-scale release of Natural Energy beyond human wisdom.

Natural phenomenon cannot be complained by anyone, even so, a large scale natural disaster try to fall on us one after another! How come, who did something wrong to heaven on Earth?

 Careful experimental trials on Camera Shake revealed the necessity of the stoutness not only of tripod itself but of pan-head construction, I noticed on the way that the convergence of vibration and shaking is totally different, also the residual stability after the movement is different. 

The rate of residual camera shaking phenomena should be as less as possible to obtain perfect transparencies.

So, the sweet idea of lightening the weight of shooting equipment should be thrown away so far immediately now.

Suppose, an infantry carries a rifle gun on his shoulder to protect himself in operation, the weight is around 4 kg, so photographes tripod plays a similar part of the operation, we need some adequate weigh to get solid result.

Whenever telephoto heavy lens is invited for shooting outside over 600 mm focus length, I will carry SLIK Grand Master and Velbon Magnesium  pan-head PHD-62Q and SLIK Plate-Deluxe for avoiding lens barrel vending down. 

I would like to say myself that once decided to go for shooting photo, go out with the best equipment throwing out all the soft idea of escape. Before departure, the idea for the work is already formed in my mind, so realize it without failure.

Sudden cold morning!

 Sudden visiting of the first Winter cold day may bring unusual health condition especially for geriatric. Usual Influenza vaccination would be performed, in spite of epidemic SARS CoV-2?

We hope next tide of disaster should not come again and diminish as the time passes.

Medical stuff especially Pharmacologist might at a loss to foresee what will happen, mixed vaccination, oral drugs, before that the way to diagnose the patients except Polimalase Chain Reaction test?

And Precise inspections in every department including ones by Government should be performed before being forgotten, in spite of the critical importance for the following generations it had not been done for half a century.

Though all the people must be busy to recover this situation, we should proceed to inspect deeply in every direction. It will be always necessary later to write up cleanup of the Adminable Past.

 Though there is no victorious celebration or festival like after WWⅡ, people in our country are in the mood of relief immediately after the battle is flowing and broadcasts tell us minimum number of infected patient. My last Cosmos shooting this year has over the day before yesterday with some reasonable harvest. Too early departure was not favorable for my requirement, smoke from a distance was not satisfied but morning dew was caught by chance.

I make it a rule not to pile and stock my work but open them immediately after the harvest, otherwise clogged productions will make me stay at home with cross legs in front of LCD.

Next targeting place would be Kameoka Castle-Town ruins.

Confusion and Embarrassment

 Rainy Sunday today and coldness a bit, now is the watershed of seasonal switching over to Winter. We cannot be too careful to countermeasure for Viral infection through routine ordinary influenza vaccine is not prevailing. Nobody knows what will happen this Winter season.

Even medical doctors have different opinions on Vaccination for SARS CoV-2, agree, disagree and neither. Because the exact opposite information propagate immediately after scattering, people are at a loss where to go however quickly the site's organizer might try to eliminate them.

Too much different information in the Web sites invite people's anxiety and confusion, in spite of much propaganda information are contained. Even some professionals, experts or specialist in the same field differ each other!?

Harvest today, Cosmons shooting!

 I took around 2 Minolta MD Zoom lenses for Cosmos shooting today. As for the conclusion of actual use, both of them never betrayed my desire at any rate. Standard 35-105 and tele 100-200.

Resolution, sharpness, color and distortion were good enough to satisfy my requirement. Especially, MD Zoom 100-200/5.6 provided me of unusual and different picture angle from ordinary daily life, so nice and impressive!

Climate condition was not so favorable, cloudy a bit, the harvest today is not less, the place I visited was the best conditioned at all. I had an opportunity to talk with a farmer who keeps Cosmos Garden, he does it because of his hobby, free of charge to get into his place. Of course, I gave him the best appreciation.

Very interesting and heart moving talk with people are very fun to enjoy especially with who are in the country lesion. He said he is happy to serve visitors some fantastic Cosmos flowers every year.

Because I was an early bird this morning, before dawn departure, I got sleepy on the way back, 3 hours from 5 to 8 o'clock were worthy for me, being in time for the breakfast.

Last cosmos shooting

The condition of Rose Garden was good in full bloom. Several shooting positions and angles were searched for the next opportunity. Around 10 good pics would be obtained next time, depending on the lighting sources.

I happened to come across with an unusual Japanese style restaurant at Temmabashi Station, that is one of a famous long-established Chicken Restaurant situating at Kyoto Tambabashi. As I have no reason to deny it, I dropped in it without any hesitation. 

I was informed that they have one another branch at Kyoto Tower inside. The same tasting among 3 restaurant should be as a matter of fact. I wonder how many Michelin Stars they have.

Minolta MD Zoom 35~105

 It was quite a lucky day yesterday because I happened to come across Minolta MD Zoom 35~105 in NOS & MINT condition for 3,000 yen at Umeda Photoshop. It's a store that has become popular for me recently, all the stuff are so friendly.

In addition to the externally marberous appearance, all the function were very smooth and moderate as new one, needless to write lens condition is excellent with no misting nor mold formation. Anyway, it was so brilliant as to fix my eyes on it from a distance.

As it looked like a production of yesterday after 30 years later, I had no factor to miss it. The scenery was exactly the same as that I saw a lovely Dear 30 years younger condition! Unexpectedly dreamy affair as it was!

I like it without any reason or rationality, the last production of Minolta SLR manual focusing lens and the culmination of Chiyoko company lasted over a century, the most favorite bland for me in the field. 

Love affair does not always exist only in Heterosexuality.

Though some test shooting revealed the color distortion a bit to Umber direction, I'll try this one today, I'm excited on it and looking forward to it waiting for Sunrising this morning!

M645 to SONY-E adapter

As I looked for Mamiya 645 to SONY-E mount adapter in the Web site, I didn't find it out in the reliable seller except strange PRC site. My conclusion was that I was cornered in all directions, fabricate it by myself.

Canon EF to SONY-E mount adapter that did not work well when Canon Auto focusing function was tested, just makes heat inside and thrown away for long time. I happened to realize utilizing this trash part for useful device!

Comparison on flange back between 645 and SONY-E, 64.0 mm and 18 mm, 46 mm clearance must be fulfilled by some method? Careful measurement of the compensating part led me to the smart conclusion. 

Mamiya genuine part, Auto-Ext Ring No.2 was applicable for the purpose, on the way 0.3 mm grinding adjustment was required to establish infinity focusing. As the lens barrel length adjustment for the infinity position differs, careful adjustment was required.

Avoiding light axis bending, a stout supporting rail is indispensable in actual shooting scenery especially, small diameter flange is invited like SONY E mount, I make it a rule to insert a triangular small wood piece at adequate position. Bayonet spring and lens barrel moving parts like helicoid and cam constructions are the climinal of distortion.

As Mamiya Zoom has some mist covering and colony of mold on lenses inside, I would like to have so transparent image after cleaning.

I want to believe in that the dull pic quality is not brought by its innate performance but by acquired bad conditions written above. 

To tell the truth, I remembered 30 years ago that I was disappointed by the performance of C 80mm/f1.9, just I pray not to have the same result at all. The standard control for comparison now is Minolta MD Zoom 100~200mm/f5.6?

 

Magnesium Panhead for tripod

2 velbon 3D Panhead for tripod were obtained at half price promptly. The body material of these item are Magnesium alloy with lighter weight than Aluminum alloy. More over the advantage is smooth and unmovable stability with tightening phase.

The clumping mechanism act on the center of moving axis for all dimensions and coma-tightening mechanism is equipped for all dimensions.

JIS Quick shoe system in these item is reliable, square shape allows 90 degree compatibility. Though I have experience these mechanism, Hasselblad and Arca Swiss, I'll take JIS standard.

Heavier telephoto lens does not accept ball panhead for actual use however nearer position is supported around the Center of Gravity, 3D Panhead is a good solution. 

These models are out of production already now as they are, I'm going to continue these Velbon Panhead for the time being.

Taller but smart!

Unsatisfactory when I visited Hazugawa Cosmos Garden last time for shooting photograph obliged me to visit there again today, as I imagined flowers were in full bloom condition 10 days later above all. Regardless to write here, newly obtained Minolta MD Zoom 100~200/f5.6 that was produced half a century ago was accompanied with me and it contributed to get superb pics today. The physical performance of this MD Zoom lens is so shaking my heart as to remember my good old days when I played with this lens on silver salt film, so nice!
