She came to me


I've married her yesterday, yes my October bride is 48 years old, VW 1302 Super Beetle.
Firs of all, all the stickers by former owner were throughly removed, both external on the screen glasses and internal in the cabin.
Many tasks to be performed before Legal inspection are difficult to explain, frontal strut upper mount has cruck as prior imagination. How much do I exert myself on restoration of this old Beetle?
Finding out the unbalance of side shape, tail down and subducting style, I regarded the reason for this inconvenience is the air conditioning system that's not so popular in Europe like in stuffy Japan. The weight is over 20 kg including compressor, condenser and evaporator with hosing. This weight is put on the rear over hang position, inviting dull handling and tail pulling down style that's ugly too much from sagittal view.
Tortion bar spring on rear axle may be required on more spring effect by reconstruction of spline resetting.
Pushing down trial on frontal fender proved inadequate shock absorbing effect leading to replacement into new parts, consulting on the brand BOGE in Germany. Surely the bushing rubber parts in rear trailing arm construction needs replacement because of permanent distortion and deformation. Also clearly felt I lack of lubrication on clutch construction, folk, release bearing and slider splines, leading to engine unburdening.
Basically the purpose of reconstruction of htis old Super Beetle is not just to enjoy reviving the 48 years old car now but to know and to feel the technology that was before the WW-2 in Germany. The construction of the axle designing had been almost established at time, strut frontal suspension and independent trailing arm rear one. So the geometry checking and wheel alignment would be scaled and adjusted so firmly as to the least error tolerance. Consequently the body painting would not be touched left no rust removal and unpainted, just only putting emphasis on the inner mechanical repair and necessary parts replacement.
