Treatment


I just remembered the effect of Microron, this material has special affections onto the metal touching surface to reduce the friction. According to my own experience, the Teflon coating material was effective if used with motor oil.
I just determined to apply this material into the ball recirculating steering gear box on VW 1302 Super Beetle, no replacement parts is available only on right handled model, in addition to relatively weak basic mechanical design of steering linkage. So the wear of ball nut gear box means some critical physiologic phenomena to finish it's life only for right handle designed Super Beetle, the critical weakest point. Then this is why I chose 1302 with only 30,000km running.
I thik it a promising treatment on important gear box to apply Microron, though I do not prefer to apply 3rd party materials on the automobiles, this is one of the exception.

The devices to be obtained are followings:
Timing light to ascertain the ignition timing on VW Beetle, also the BTDC of EP82 TOYOTA Starlet would be checked. Here remember the word, Before Top Dead Center, BTDC. For point-less and computer controled Starlet, futher use of the device is the most unlikely, only for the use on oldest 40 years Beetle. To tell the truth, I threw the timing light exhibiting on YaHoo auction few years ago, I never imagined the day would come like with old VW Beetle now.
The battery on Beetle was checked yesterday, exactly the same as Opel Vectra's one, D terminals and relatively big sized, additional charging would be performed today.
Big sized airconditioner compressor prevents me from accessing into deeper part of the engine room of Beetle, in very near future all the system would be removed throughly, hoping some improvement on downed tail, unacceptable sagittal view, nose up and tail subducting style.

The possibilities of two steering centric position on BC7 SUBARU Legacy are the followings:
The straight running position and the most stable steering position are different, so some right side adjusting is required in order to keep straight running, on flat road surface my BC7 Legacy would start to left side running gradually if I release hands from the steering. In this situation, let's think about the reasons of the phenomena on physical property.
On the frontal axle, the degree of negative camber of right side exceeds to the left, the right inclination is more than the left one. The negative camber values are already firmly fixed at minus 15 minutes on both sides.
Setback conditions are already measured and ascertained exactly the same length.
On the other hand, the wheel base difference apparently exits, left side 1mm shorter than the right, this means the swung rear end phenomena causing left side tendency, I think the most suspicious error point. After the corrective adjustment of this swung rear end error, residual measurements would be performed at any rate, rear negative cambers, standard value 40 minutes, and toe-in value, 1mm in total and thrust angle 0 degree as near as possible.
Just writing like this is relatively easy but actual work requires truely desperate efforts on earth, the fighting with the physical properties of rubber and lubricant materials, movability, deformability, viscoelasticity and their hysteresis.
The checking all the time while measurements are carefully necessary, opening and releasing all the compressed and packed internal factors and forces.

Explosives found


Two air packages including explosives were found in US, so Breaking CNN said. Attack to US never stops by Al-qaeda. Why US and UK are often targetted by Islam party? What's the fundamental reason of fighting? How they could cut off the hatred chain?
Or impossible to finish the Religious War lasting for thousands of years, like a long lasting chronic disease?

BC7 SUBARU Legacy requires re-setting of constructive geometry and wheel alignments, because I feel instabilities while straight running comparing with another automobiles I'm keeping. Probably the difference of wheel base about 1mm, left side shorter maning plus angle of swung rear end.
Also wanna I try to same checking on SXE10 TOYOTA Alteza and NCP10 TOYOTA Vitz. Alteza may need wheel base adjustment and thrust angle resetting, about Vitz I don't know.
Anyway I'm not satisfied when I drive them. There must be some error in alignments, though they may take some period of time, precise scaling and adjustment would surely solve the problems.

As a temporarily treatment mechanical fuel pump was applied on VW 1302 Super Beetle, Brazil production. Then new pump made it possible to continue idling though not in so good condition. Trial braking attempt just in front of pit, without license it's illegal attitude, left frontal is no braking effect in spit of enough oil pressure, the cause of this strange phenomena is due to oil sponged brake shoe only on the left side. Trial attempt like heating brake shoe to get oil out would be in vain.
Now new brake shoes for front and rear are prepared already, tomorrow will be day to do that. The cost of the parts obtained today were so high unacceptablly at the VW shop in Ibaragi-city in Osaka. I'll have no opportunity to visit there again.
I'm moved emotionally not a little by the information obtained today. Ball recirculating steering gear box has no way to repair once it becomes bad, because no replacement parts are supplied, internal warm spiral gear. Though some parts are often showed in Web site, all of them are for left handled one and with no interchangability with right handled one. So once the steering gear box is worn with backlash, we must desert 1302 herself however hard I might eager for her in future.
Careful checking on straight running of BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi revealed the fact that it has clearly two centric steering position, meaning some tendency to include thrust angle is formed.
As obtained the information that some wheel base difference leading swung rear end are also the same meaning as thrust formation, probably plus value.
Precise scaling and measurements of wheel alignment and geometric checking tomorrow would proved the of my opinion now dictating.

Restore ahead




Disassembled mechanical fuel pump on AD11 VW 1302 Super Beetle '71, no further disassembling is allowed because diaphragm inside is packed with case edge metal pressing method, so no way to open and replacing inner parts is not intended at designing of this pump, just an American style desert after use throughly in 70 to 80 th. The top view shows fully sealed component but diaphragm is cracked, so fuel comes out freely from aspirating hale applied lower surface of the pump body.
The fuel supply method would be changed from mechanical pump into electric motored pump one, popular Japanese MITSUBA would be fixed with no hesitations.
Removed door regulator handle shows some cruck on the knob, this fracture must be caused by too heavy action of door glass sliding motion lack of adjusting and of lubrication of regulator construction. Some repairing trial may be applied befor new parts orders.

Finding out the ponting mark "DBP" on the destroyed fuel pump reminds me of the same printing on the top covers of famous German small camera "LEICA". Before the WW2 the marking on them were "DHP" meaning Deutches Heides Patent", but after the war the marking were changed into "DBP" meaning Deutches Bundes Patent, meaningfully the change was obliged after the destruction of one nation and reconstruction of a new country.
By the way, almost of German nouns have some sexual separations,male of female, the noun "LEICA" is one of a female.

Unfavorable weather

The climate today is not favourable and temperature out side in Osaka is below 15 centigrade also this week ends are negative, because #14 typhoon is comming across to Japan main land and going up along northward, so working may be difficult on comming holidays, cold and chilly,rainy and windy.
Gathering some informations, good Italian restaurant were found out in Ako at the most western area in Hyogo pref, so that would be for lunch and Kakiokonomi in Hinase near Akoh are the better planning with consideration including economical factor. These planning would be performed with another family together.
I'm confused on setting of ignition timing because of complicated informations in Web site. There are three types of distributors according to the generations, single vacum advance, double vaccum advance and fully centrifugal advance without any vaccum advance.
The rate of ignition timing advance differs promptly, single is 10 degree on BTDC, double is 7,5 BTDC and centrifugal only called 009 type is 5 degree ATDC while at idle speed 800-900 rpm, here BTDC means Before Top Dead Center of piston's position and ATDC does After Top Dead Center, but 28-30 degree advance at normal octane gasoline and 30-32 degree advance at hi octane gasoline are performed at full advanced condtion in any case.
Ploblem causes at idle speed if different distributer were invited on different motor and ill ignition timing were set by mistake. Also valve clearance and contact point gap are essentials to affect the timing setting on carburator adjusting. I must get accustomed to this motor VW AD11 and another control mechanical system at any rate, I'll do that!

Description in the evening:
Disassembling the upper body of mechanical fuel pump on VW 1302 Super Beetle proved some breaking of the diaphragm. After a negotiation with the professional person, I determined to change the fuel pump into more reliable Japanese electric pump, MITSUBA FP-323 model costing as much as 13,900 yen. The hole after removing mechanical pump must be sealed by any means, but re-setting of original pump must be prepared.
Without paying any attentions I pulled some small air hose, the origin of the line was lost, so re-checking is necessary.
Side window regulator handle was easy to remove, next step is to remove the inner door pannel for lubrication into regulator construction.
The problems appears unlimitedly one by one without depletion as expected.

Early winter


One week earlier the winter has come this year, so the better season as Autumn was shorter than usual. Peoples are active and busy to enjoy good season, my wife is going to hold some party to celebrate the decoration this year, may be good friends each other.
As for me, too many parts to be ordered for repairing VW Beetle prevent me to move to next action. To run, rear hub bearing checking nor motor adjustment especially carburator is not yet, to curve, steering linkage re-checking, ascertaining the thread direction of tie rod ball joints not yet, to stop, brake wheel cylinders were serviced to work without oil pilling except ill master cylinder but brake shoes replacement not yet. The information about adjusting 34 pict/3 carburator is obtained and vacum and centrifugal advancer behaviors are already known, I mean advancing angle.

For self anti-aging


The purpose to restore a 40 years old automobile is not just to survive and prolong the life of it but to see and touch the concept of the designs, because the old design does not always mean some poor and traditional old technologies. The material of engine crank case was made with Magnesium alloy, stronger and righter than alminum one, so the weight of the motor itself is only 60 kg, ordinal 4 inline motor's weight exceeds 100 kg instead.
This weight is put on rear overhung, so physical movement property differs, this is easily imagined. So many revolutional new technologies were applied about half a century ago.
Just I wanted to know about that by restoring this 40 years old VW 1302 Super Beetle regarding this as a 1/1 scaled toy, it convenient for prevention of aging.

My son informed me of the accident on SUBARU BLE 3L model, extended knuckle ball joint broke not on the highway but in the garage. I had told about the reliability of 3rd party's important part like modified ball joints with not enough experimental researches but just made on some logics. He did the same as the test driver of trial parts using his own automobile and paying some amount of money betting his life.
He was not employed by the automobile 3rd party company, then why must he paied on such a dangerous game?

Servicing started


So many tasks must be overcome before legal inspection, replacement parts, critically damaged parts recovery and precise adjustments. Probablly it'll be very unlikely to finish them within this year. No obligations exists to make haste to perform these tasks on VW 1302 Super Beetle produced on 40 years ago.
Though brake systems were established yesterday by cleaning up wheel cylinders, the inconveniences in steering linkage were found, the defected parts appears increasing in number one by one and day after day as servicing processes go forward.
I've already made up my mind not to desert the renewal workings, never throw away on the way.

About 1mm thickness sediment was found when disassembled left frontal brake drum for wheel cylinder checking. The physical property of the layer was like hard baked cookie, the phenomena imagined me of pilling out of brake fluid between brake shoe and drum slipping surface. I've never experienced this kind of trouble so miserable as to imagine the careless former user, a geriatric woman?

How often does this 40 years old VW Beetle put me being at a loss coming across to horrible situations in future? It's OK no problem because I wanted her to come to me, anything are permissible.
By the way, I found out the simmilar person in Web site doing on 1303 '75, not a layman like me but a specialized professional as auto-mechanics. Even such an experienced person spends time for few years for restoring Beetle, then taking time for her must be acceptable from general standing point of view, so I take my time enough to satisfy by myself for the time being.

Many tasks left undone on VW 1302




Finding out backlashes in steering ball joint linkage on many positions yesterday, more precise checking would be performed today in addition to frontal wheel cylinders and brake master cylinder. I'm not satisfied with the fuel pipe line applied by the professional dealer because of breakage by rusting for the fixation is not enough with anxiety of comming legal inspections. Another way to fix the fuel pipe line must be considered.
Further descriptions later:
Frontal wheel cylinder were disassembled and serviced well today, finding out some critical problems, the depth of rusting was thicker than imagined, recovering method were hand filing inside wall of the cylinders until invaded rusting disappears. Surface finishing were finger sand paper method requiring patience and ultimate efforts, but I did them well and all successful.
On the air bubble removing procedure I realized the master cylinder surface is also invaded by rust, the strange reactions were felt through brake pedal touching, naturally replacing of master cylinder would be strongly desired. Stopping lamp switches should be changed into new ones including two 2 pin halled rubber boots.
Over 40 years old car needs much replacements of periodical replacement parts, this is a natural phenomena, because human being also requires health checking if we come to the same age.

Mistakes




Only a failure would makes me stop and consider deeply on the reason and on the way to try to overcome it I might obtain various informations to go forward. Repeating these processes I might make progress in anything. Planning, trying, making mistakes, thinking over and betterments, repeating these procedures are the way to live for me. Moreover, the reason to live is finding out the way that works well in anything.
Photo shows the reason of stuck of rear left side wheel cylinder inside covered with dirty sludge and vanish. Chronic and sticky vanish was removed with the method of soft wood piece and acetone. An operative cylinder is often deserted because of difficulty to remove ringed vanish throughly.
Even after establishing rear wheel cylinder operations, sticking phenomena immediately after pushing down brake pedal never disappeared today. So, frontal cylinders and master cylinder would be disassembled and serviced tomorrow.

Vehicle's weight


Is it necessary to carry somewhere a person packed in an iron cage weighing over 1,500kg? The less weight of the vehicle, the better driving invites the fundamental physiologic phenomena, on starting, while running, comming to turning and when stopping of all phases. Again, the lighter the better for vehicles. I wonder why so heavy vehicle is necessary to carry only one passenger? Why increased in weight for recent vehicles?

Tasks on VW 1302




Cloudy and occasional rain as today's climate is, I'll exert myself in tasks today on VW 1302 Super Beetle. Because I was obliged to stop working on rear wheel cylinder, the reason was lack of special tool, 36mm larger wrench loosening hub center bolt. Today I'm prepared for accessing next steps, remembering former tasks on EP82 TOYOTA Starlet 2 years ago, rear wheel cylinders had been replaced into 3/4' from 11/16' to enforce rear brake power balancing replaced frontal disk rotors into GT model's ones. So now I'm keeping those replaced 11/16' cylinder, the value of diameter is the same as VW's ones, matching test is necessary.

After loosening of hub nut the inside construction of stuck rear brake system appeared. Rusty but brake shoe is not poisoned by brake fluid. Back plate inner side photo shows considerable fluid pilling historically. Round sticked banish inside of wheel cylinder was cleaned thoroughly by means of small piece of wood and rucker thinner.
In order to prevent pilling from the tip of oil pressure line after disconnecting, small wooden tip is plugged utilizing disposable Japanese chopstick sharpened with automatic pencile sharpener.

Huge shrimp


Last time was 36cm 1,71kg on 6th April 2009, but this time is over 50cm and over 2kg on 18th October 2010, Ise Shrimp, photo shows last year one.
I'm sure to come to meet with it to Toba Aquarium in very near future after it's exhibited. I'm interesting in water crustacean that had appeared on earth far earlier than we did. There must be something I don't know in so sofisticated and refined in various color and shape.

Special Tool


An assembly wrench was obtained at 3,500 yen to loosen rear hub bolt on VW 1302 Super Beetle. The wheel cylinder inside of brake system has some tendency to stick, so disassembling and cleaning of cylinder are necessary. The servicing procedures would be performed on comming Thursday.

Future tasks on Beetle


In order to pass the legal inspection on VW 1302 Beetle, tires and wheels are the first varrier on me. The ideal way is to buy new genuine steel wheels 5J/15 off 25mm, and new tires Bridgestone Sneaker 165/80 SR15.
And brake system, cleaning and rubber cup replacement of rear wheel cylinders.
Finding out the backlushes on steering linkage, some tie-rod end must be replaced.

Ope on Super Beetle




Today's operation on Super Beetle was the fixations of fuel tank hosing and the application of O ring between fuel gage adapter and fuel tank. Though tried some task on rear wheel cylinder, 36/19 socket adapter was necessary to loosen the hub bolt, left undone. Air intake ducts must be checked in the bonnet. AM radio with piano touch pushing button makes noise when switched on and off, needs disassembling and some repair, radio-less design of dashboard may be a possible choice,finding out the original radio hole masking plate in the grove box by chance.

Some German pharmaceutical company is destroying natural resources for their production of cold medicine, so some NHK doccument program says in the middle of the night today. The company pays for the raw material, "Umckaloabo" made from some plant bulbs called Pelrgonium sidoides. Now the overfishing of the plant, natural resources, invites the depletion that difficult to repair as it was.
The congress of COP10(Conference of the Parties in 2010) is now held in Nagoya with 8,000 person's attendance.
However hard they may negotiate on the knowledge, historic one or world widely known one, they have difficulties to come to some conclusions. Additionally the possibility of synthetic drug materials makes the problem complicated. The pharmaceutical company that's capable to produce raw material by itself would distribute the income to the originally introduced the knowledge undeveloped nation? Does it pay for its own advantage sharing the profit to them? Impossible, no?
If the saying by developing countries were 100% recommended,logically correct but actually not, the country The United States of America can not exist, because all of the historic immigrants from Europe should go back to original countries and brought black people as slaves should be returned back to Africa. And all the resources on the America should be repatriated to the original native Americans.
Then what will happen, no way to avoid the survival war as usual.

What'll happen?


I know how less I can do by myself in anything. Also I have some habitual tendency to avoid things difficult to do and always try to run into my own tent to run away from difficult matters. So without taking measures to this weak emotional construction of myself, quite a monotonous time would pass relatively quickly and I'll be a poor geriatric very soon. In order to change this stable circumstances around me, something must be changed and I must put myself on different situation from ordinal daily life. This is the reason why I obtained an old VW Super Beetle produced 48 years ago to restore her by myself. I'm looking forward to knowing what will happen on me from now.

She came to me


I've married her yesterday, yes my October bride is 48 years old, VW 1302 Super Beetle.
Firs of all, all the stickers by former owner were throughly removed, both external on the screen glasses and internal in the cabin.
Many tasks to be performed before Legal inspection are difficult to explain, frontal strut upper mount has cruck as prior imagination. How much do I exert myself on restoration of this old Beetle?
Finding out the unbalance of side shape, tail down and subducting style, I regarded the reason for this inconvenience is the air conditioning system that's not so popular in Europe like in stuffy Japan. The weight is over 20 kg including compressor, condenser and evaporator with hosing. This weight is put on the rear over hang position, inviting dull handling and tail pulling down style that's ugly too much from sagittal view.
Tortion bar spring on rear axle may be required on more spring effect by reconstruction of spline resetting.
Pushing down trial on frontal fender proved inadequate shock absorbing effect leading to replacement into new parts, consulting on the brand BOGE in Germany. Surely the bushing rubber parts in rear trailing arm construction needs replacement because of permanent distortion and deformation. Also clearly felt I lack of lubrication on clutch construction, folk, release bearing and slider splines, leading to engine unburdening.
Basically the purpose of reconstruction of htis old Super Beetle is not just to enjoy reviving the 48 years old car now but to know and to feel the technology that was before the WW-2 in Germany. The construction of the axle designing had been almost established at time, strut frontal suspension and independent trailing arm rear one. So the geometry checking and wheel alignment would be scaled and adjusted so firmly as to the least error tolerance. Consequently the body painting would not be touched left no rust removal and unpainted, just only putting emphasis on the inner mechanical repair and necessary parts replacement.

Successful rescue!


Over 20 miners rescued from undergroud of San Jose Mine in Chile, brilliant achieve! CNN is telling us wonderful news this morning.
This kind of cheerful and positive news among almost of dark and negative ones makes us feel far better, yes good morning!
Today 48 year old car but new for me would come into my pit around noon from Wakayama city, also a good news for me.

Now I'm obliged to reduce my cars in number because I can drive only one automobile at the same time.

Some professional engineer specialized in automobile trans-axle mechanisms has come to talk about very professional districted region of research of Control Mechanism, System sensitivity, Robust Control! How come ? Is he crazy? It's merely on a YaHoo Forum site?

New World


Some change will happen after the settlement of newly invited old Beetle in my garage on the day after tomorrow. Though old enough as to be 48 years, she must be so naughty jill enough to set me on the move in future.
Some negotiations were done with my intimate friend in NETZ TOYOTA about vehicle registration on Super Beetle.
Exhaust gas checking would be no problem by adjusting mechanical carburator 34 PICT/3 carefully. So any outstanding barriers are not to be seen from now.

The dealer called me up few minutes ago noticing the appointment with the importer, today she would be picked up and send to me before noon on comming Thursday. Also told me about her condition, fuel tank was gone, fully impacted with iron dust and rust, so replaced into good parts they had, the point part inside of distributer, 4 plugs were already replaced into new parts.
Now she can move and go except brake line and cylinders.

Miserable experience



To tell the truth I have broken two motors of automobile, PEUGEOT 205 XS 5speed and Opel B-Vectra sedan. The latter was caused by valve crash loosing cam sprocket rotation by drive cogged belt fluctuations.
The famous rumor that the clearance between crank shaft and crank case main supporting metal bearing is too wide, so high rotation over 6,000 rpm would invite defective crank shaft vibration in 3 dimensional directions leading to fatal destruction of the motor. This information is already heard from former racing driver, I forgot it and took XS model as Racing Rallye model by my own mistake. Additionally I heard some crying from the motor like screaming for a short time, I kept over 7,000 rpm ignoring her sadness at that moment until crank shaft came to down to be torn.
Yes, I killed her! This affair occured over 20 years ago, I some time remember the artificial accident never to forget. I did her raw dealings, it's miserable.

Without ECU


It's absolutely to the point to have choosen Old VW Super Beetle as my 1/1 scale fun toy. Naturally the emission control was only a canister preventing unnecessary gasoline evaporation, no other devices were equipped, without Engine Control Unit. So the VW 1302 Super Beetle is fully mechanically controled automobile produced 48 years ago. Fuel control is performed by emulsion tube, fuel jet and air bypass adjusting screw as conventional method. But with all these primitive devices, probablly capable to pass the Legal Emission Control Test, CO(Carbon Oxide)> below 0,45% and HC(Hydrocarbon)>1200 ppm.
Anyway newly comming Beetle would be restored by replacing rubber parts, geometric construction correcting and wheel alignment establishment precisely based on service manual datum(on centric value) utilizing special tools and devices. I'm looking forward to see 1302S model on comming Thursday.

Enjoy processing



Any difficulties could be be conquered, overcome and carried out if the power is strong enough to perform those. There must be many obstacles on the way to the goal, I must do those,because I decided. The processes to overcome are the fun to be enjoyed.
Today I'm going to prepare the pit for new comming Super Beetle.
The limited pressure of the controler on rotaly compressor must be increased to 7kg for the use of stronger impact air tools.
All the devices must be oiled on the hinge positions.
Organization of replacement parts must be done for they are scattered too much.

Though the original design was made by Ferdinand Porche over 60 years ago before the World War 2, constructive works were the perfect. But I found some difference on frontal strut inclination comparing with nowadays design, caster angle is not prepared so they are percieved from the drawings.
Being afraid of that the caster actions can not be desired and adequate negative cambers should be applied instead on the way of my DIY reconstruction that are playing a part of ensuring the base stations including the effects of scrub.
The reason why Super Beetle could not so better reputations as desired may be this misunderstandings here.
This is my only worrying point on 1302 Super Beetle.
Futher experimental running would prove the validity of my upper opinion.

The automobile engineer thirsts for smooth feel while gears changing in combination with Otto cycled engine by the improvement on automatic trans-axle, this is the tendency in Japan and Europe. Former made efforts in researching on rock up system at any gears with one way clutch, the latter introduced racing technology from Porche, DSG system. The flag color looks like superior to Japanese one now a days.
Some engineer says that the conventional technology having been insisted to rely on avoiding danger often inferior to the new technology with curiosity having been overcome missing hell.
We recommend that now is the transition period to move electric power sorce, let's go forward by improving the performance of the special battery.

DIY on Super Beetle



Probably it must be quite right to have selected VW 1302 Super Beetle with only 30,000km running after production 48 years ago, as my life work 1/1 toy. World wide long run production automobile means the benefit to obtain replacement part relatively easily.
Now I wanna ask to myself:
*Possible to disassemble and re-assemble the German car?
Yes, I'm trained already by Opel B-Vectra, special sized tools are prepared,11,13,15,16,18 and 5/8.
*Replacement parts are available on the model 48 years ago?
Completely yes, from Web site and FLAT 4.
*Do I know the necessity to grease on folk, release bearing and spline slider?
Yes, I'll apply lubricant on all the moving part.
*Valve clearance?
Already informed,IN 0,15 and EX 0,15.
*Distributer?
Adjusting on adequate Dwell angle, strobo is required, and possible to put it on sweetest position including centrifugal and vaccum advance.
*Carburator adjusting?
Basically yes, because I've trained on WEBER side draft 40 DCOM carb equipped on PEUGEOT 205 Rallye model. Starting the adjustment, 2 mixture screws releasing twice. I've no anxiety on adjustment.
*Setting axle compliance?
Yes, experiences on 7 autos could make it possible. Rear axle trailing arm bush constructions are not understood yet, but actual disassembling will solve the problems.
*Wheel alignment and axle construction geometry establishment?
DIY special tools already mentioned would play good parts in scaling and adjusting.
It would take time to complete a new comming Super Beetle, I'll do that as to satisfy myself on earth.

What'll the first task when 48 years lady, Super Beetle in 1972, would come to me on next Thursday?
Brake master cylinder must be removed first and be disassembled throughly to clean up, mainly removing circular vanish impurity inside.
Next 4 wheel cylinders would be processed as same manner as master cylinder.
In case of patency on inner surface of cylinder at any portion, all of 5 cylinder would be replaced into new parts with no argument.
After establishing brake system, fuel line checking and carburator adjustment would be performed.
Tires would be ordered after that, 165/70-15 Bridgestone Sneaker brand with 612mm radius.
Exhaust gas check and ignition timing require special tool equipped in NETZ TOYOTA, negotiation may be necessary in very near future before having Legal Inspection Checking at Land Transporting Office in Kobe.
After finishing legal processing precise adjustments on axle construction geometry and wheel alignment would be performed to satisfy myself with taking enough time period.

Prepared


Actual visiting on FLAT 4 in Kyoto Katsura yesterday proved the reliability on replacement parts supply in future. Though VW Super Beetle has not come yet, emotional preparation is already done, one week later!.
I wonder how much maintenances had been performed and what kind of periodical replacement parts had been exchanged. The detail would be opened after disassembling of key components. Strut upper mount, lower arm bushes and IRS rear hinge bushes would be replaced with high possibility.
The construction of Indepent Rear Suspension on VW 1302 Super Beetle is difficult to understand throughly fron the illustrations in Web site, may a part are included on moving portion, not so clear as to realize the quality of the parts, metal, plastic or butyl rubber. After actual disassembling after she would come to me one week later, all the questionaire and doubts would be clear.

Possibility


In order to restore an automobile that's produced 48 years ago, strong will and fortitude are required especially for an outsider for a layman like myself, just curiosity is not enough to carry out the complecated tasks. Probably it'll take tremendous time until I would be old enough to come to my end.
But suppose if I do not make up my mind to do it now, just boring and monotonous residual daily lives are waiting in future.
The decision this time on VW 1302 Restoration is exactly the same as jumping off myself from the higher stage of Kiyomizu Temple.
I hope I would enjoy future lives with fully mechanical Old VW life.
Escape and laziness in my mind are the enemy to be annihilated throughly.
The enemy is not in front of me but inside of myself.
Consequently wanna I do everything in my hobby life if I find a way to a tinny piece of possibility.

This is a truth that I regard old air-cooled VW Beetle as a 1/1 scaled metal pressed toy, but it can move if licensed under legal traffic law. 48 years time interval after it's production means some requirements to be replaced rubber parts and periodical replacement parts, these are the common sence going without writing.
First of all, brake system must be established that's prior to every maintenance and indispensable physical property for any automobile. Brake master cylinder assembly, 4 wheel cylinders and brake hoses are on the first parts orders seats. And electrical lamps for safety must be checked, exhaust gas is the high hardle to come over according to Japanese Traffic Law, CO below 0,5% and HC below 1200 ppm, requiring precise carburator adjustment.

After visiting FLAT 4 Kyoto branch to gather informations about newly comming 1302 Super Beetle, I got better interactions from the staff there. All the replacement parts are available even frontal strut mounts with strut bearing, this was great relive to wipe out all the prior anxieties.

VW 1302


VW 1302 Super Beetle is comming on the middle of this month, but I have never told about this to no one else, having lost the chance to negotiate about this crazy planning.
Thank to broad and international informations about this automobile produced 48 years ago are easily obtained, now studing about carburetor, Solex 34 PICT. Probably have I no problem because I trained myself on mechanical WEBER carburetor 40DCOM equipped on PEUGEOT 205 RALLYE.
Anyway I'll try restoring VW 1302 Beetle killing time in future.

40 years VW 1302 Super Beetle




Replacement of automobile started yesterday, '72 Super Beetle would come to me this week end from Wakayama VW shop. I'm so interested in this auto because of following reasons.
Air cooled flat four Boxer engine.
Very light body weight, 870kg.
Improved axle constructions, frontal strut suspension with stabilizer and independent rear semi-trailing arm construction for rear ones. These improvement in axle design let 1302S model call Super Beetle.
Frontal axle design was changed from parallel tortion bars into strut ones, this change could contribute the reduction of turning radius,5,5 to 4,5 which was the best renewal for Eurpean use on narrow and shallow roads.
The adjustability and the modifiability are far superior to conventional design.
Any way this new commer would make enjoy further Older VW lives. My concentration would applied only on the Old VW Beetle for the time being.

Old cars






I've come to be fascinated by ancient cars. The photos were taken at Hyogo pref. Sugio region yesterday. Rusted and decayed bodies require professional technology to repair and to mend into original condition, including mechanical one. The way of restoring differs a bit comparing with US Cal way using putty even on rusted big hall without metal plate patching. No difference is to be seen if finished with shinny painting, This tendency is to be seen in Cal look Beetles.

Old Beetle

My cortex is making some revolution, it's a transition from liquid cooling to air cooling motors. Almost prepared to receive ancient VW Beetle, a fossil but renewable.
Studying on renewing procedure of VW Beetle, I feel I can do that, with not a little self confidence.

Antique device

After re-assembling, I found out it work like new with any inconveniences except spinner tightening, special technique was applied for fixing in the position.







Deserted old fan obtained by chance, almost of the body constructions are diecast metal flame work, heavy but good as a durable device. The neck turning construction has no problem, no wear nor backlashes.
Pushing button type switch has no problem electrically nor mechanically.
Cleaning up and grease up work would make up considerably nice antique good.
Basically this kind of old fashioned electric family device would be easily deserted into scraps, isn't it miserable?
