Former Foreign Settlement in Kobe

Yesterday I visited the former settlement that once existed on the southwest side of Sannomiya. For the final training of English guides for overseas tourists was the purpose of it. Foreign Settlements from the Meiji era when the port of Kobe opened to the Showa and Heisei era.

I was obliged to study it's history so deeply, and what I gained behind was great not only on knowledge but also on forming my humanity.

Two World Wars and the Great Kanto Earthquake were experience while Meiji, Taisho and Showa era. The U.S. forces destroyed the most of the Foreign Settlement due to the bombing of Kobe at the end of "the Greater East Asia War". But the Kobe Port Town had been survived like a Phoenix everytime.

As a result of the complete collapse of the unprecedented Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake that led to the complete collapse of the latest Former Foreign Settlement, desperate reconstruction was carried out by introducing the latest modern technology.

In investigating these, a trifle and small fishing village at the beginning,  the Port Town of Kobe has a deep history of many ups and downs with many people involved. "Ito-machi" in the settlement is named after the first governor, Hirobumi Ito.

Regardless of language, professional guide must know all about the history and current situation of the area. In particular, in order to guide customers from overseas to Kyoto, it is necessary to learn not only geography but also Buddhist Shinto shrines and temples and individual religious and historical backgrounds.

If we might try to study all of these so deeply, each title will become a lifework without doubt, but as I investigate, I become interested and will be drawn in without knowing it.
