Miserable person

I have just lost my good chance to obtain long waited new car for myself again, because my son decided to introduce a new X-Ray system into our business forcibly, yes, the prices of them are almost the same. Some external factor or trigger to change something is necessary for me, if the machinery works well with originally designed performance. It is true that digitization of image processing is worth inviting into our business in order to obtain good information for diagnosis in every situation. A long lasting equipment but based on old systems is difficult to be changed if it works well. The proposal done my son was a good opportunity for switching my old and entrenched concept. As a matter of fact, I have lost a good chance to replace my old car into new one, this phenomena has been repeated several times, yes, I'm a victim on earth. In addition to the matter, one of my keeping car would be forfeit by my another son, the most lovely one in the best condition after some desperate efforts for maintaining works by myself. I'm a miserable person, am I?

Minolta MC ROKKOR PF 58/1,4

I have determined to modify Minolta MC ROKKOR-PF 58/1,4 standard lens adopting onto Canon EOS Digital mount with the condition of perfect infinity focusing compensating 0,5 mm flange-back discrepancy between Minolta SLR and Canon EOS. The flange part of this lens is grooved outside 0,20mm on the surface to be attached on EOS flange already, so compensation value would be residual 0,3mm on helicoid adjusting.
I came across with some very interesting description about ROKKOR-PF 58/1,4, though I didn't pay attention to such a old design optic at all, my concentration was drawn into his writing about the performances of this lens.
"Though the picture quality is not enough in the condition of iris fully opened, one or two step closing the performance would be available in this digital age. The expression is different from later MD models, so it is suitable for shooting still lives rather than powerful wild lives, the manner of this lens is delicate and smells something Orient." , so written in the article found in a Web site.
Now I'm on the way of this hobby work, unnecessary automatic iris open closure constructions are thoroughly removed this time, cam, spring, rotating part and ball bearing, etc.   

Leitz Macro Elmar-V 65/3,5

Leitz Macro Elmar-V 65/3,5 is also available on the helicoid module I did by myself establishing interchangeable infinity flange-back distance, Asahi Pentax K-helicoid Extension Tube make it possible to close up to 1/3 magnification, more closer situation requires additional extension tubes. The purpose of insisting on this old lens and why the use of this one is worthy so much are reported much in the Web sites. Simple Triplet designing as it is, most of the user of this put an emphasis on the extraordinary superb resolution of three dimensional objects. No other similar focal length Macro lens would catch up the specific character of Macro Elmar-V 65/3,5.

Leitz Telyt

I have been keeping Canada Leitz Telyt-V 280/4,8(11914) telephoto lens, also Leitz Wetzlar Telyt-V 200/4(TELOO 4 no adhesion elements optical　design), those were designed for Vosoflex system use 50 years ago and they are still now in MINT condition at my hand. As unnecessarily broad image circles design made it possible to utilize on more bigger formatting images, both of them had been modified to adopt onto Asahi PENTAX 67 body through DIY adapter was so re-modified as to be set onto Canon EOS digital imaging format. Of course, Flange-back distance is so established to meet precisely with infinity position promptly. Though production company is not the same, Canada Leitz and Leitz Wetzlar Germany, I am in a great happiness to enjoy their lens characteristics on Digital formatting image now. Among them 200mm focal length one would be a good control to compare the physical property with the same angle of view lenses by another production companies.

Inconvenient reflection

A picture shows the difference of reflection on the iris surfaces between MD ROKKOR 28/2,8 and MC 28/2,8. 20 years older MC model has shinny surfaces on both sides, anterior and posterior compared with MD model, then what will happen if some shinny plate is positioned in the middle of lens constructive component? Even now, every optical company makes desperate efforts to prevent the light source reflection and to increase the transparency, the answer is clear before my further descriptions. We should eliminate any unnecessary reflections in the lens designing component as less as we can, because the reflected light source would continue the phenomena till it ends by attenuation. We cannot know how, when and where it happens before unpredictable shooting situations, so any lens barrel and mirror box internal reflection could be a ringleader of poor quality  of the works. Any chrome plated shinny surfaces like bayonet mount nails should be eliminated by some masking work with some anti-reflection materials. I'm going to bring these 2 Minolta lenses to compare each other to know the effect of difference of iris surfaces processes, under the condition of relatively closed iris setting on Canon EOS 7D digital image format. It is a matter for gratifying that nobody complains on my chronic disease like hobby plays because of the cheapest costs for material purchases.
As I took VW 1302 Super Beetle on last Thursday, I would take BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi 4WD today that had been recovered from critical failures on the chronic disease, automatic rear transfer clutch dysfunction.

Focusing ring index

Two different types of Summilux 50/1,4 have fundamental change in helicoid construction, the newer model shown left side has steeper angle of spiral pitch, probably because of quick focusing character. The distance between 5 m to infinity positions are changed into narrower for the silver brass barrel model. The lens element designs are the same though coating methods are different resulting more bewitching color resolution for new model.
Exactly the same arrangement by Minolta company is observed on New MD 28/2 model, so there is some inconvenience to guess a focusing distance and set on focusing ring because of no identification letters on narrow distance. This is why I made up my mind to use it on Canon EOS 7D with through the lens(TTL) focusing method instead of M9 with visual estimation. Of course MD 28mm is used as 35mm view angle lens on APS-C imaging format. Quicker focusing manner is always better than conventional slow ritual? I don't think so, I prefer stable and steady focusing process to restless procedure and some traditional and delightful attitude while shooting might suit Leica range finder model?

Memorial STS

I saw a TV program about The last flight of Space shuttles, though the purpose of of missions were Space Transport System, immediately it made me remember of miserable horrible accidents, 2 of shuttles were lost while the missions, Challenger and Columbia, it goes without writing that there were no possibility to save the lives of the best flight crews. That should not happen in any reasons, indispensable people working at the forefront were killed in space and as a matter for regret, the reasons for the accidents were relatively trifles, mechanical errors. I couldn't stop to look at the hot tears when I come across with the recorded images of their good past days. Anyway, any accident should be avoided with all deepest considerations in any fields.

I have succeeded in reducing my body weight at 4,5kg by keeping the manner to take supper before 8 o'clock and no additional taking alcohol nor pinches of liquor. I feel free from any pain on knee joints. I have been carrying about in any movements with unnecessary adipose tissue. The number of the cause of mortality, obesity exceeds starvation.  

"Sugar" in Moushi

As I mentioned before, I make it a rule to visit on a small restaurant situated just on top of the mountain near to Buddhism Eitaku temple at Mousi village near Sasayama, just because it is on the way to or way back of my usual driving root. Noteworthy is a woman working there, a wife of the owner, is unusually friendly and talkative as to make all the visitors feel peaceful, this is the prior reason to visit a small but heart-warm restaurant, "Sugar". As for a small dog long kept there did not barked last time in the end of last December, how come?, being alive?
I made up my mind to stop my bad habit, occasional smoking, complete refraining from it from the beginning of this year till I go. I just remembered that I had made promise to stop it together with the representative of a construction company, "Royal Home". So do I and she must do that!

Leitz Summar 120/4,5

Once Ernst Leitz Wetzler GmbH. produced lenses for DPE purpose and Summar 120/4,5 at hand is one of them, probably DHP(Deuches Heides Patent) period. I put this one on Asahi Pentax helicoid extension tube in order to set on Canon EOS Digital image format 10s years ago, establishing infinity lens back position, I have been using it as one of an ordinary use lens not for special close up purpose, unusual "Boke" taste was there. Though I knew the special use for this from the Web site information, I have never checked the physical performance if used as a close up lens, not for 2 dimensional as it had been originally designed but for 3 dimensional objects?
As a matter for surprising result, I don't find out any words to deny the excellent performance as a macro lens, thanks to relatively longer focus length 120mm, I can keep a distance when shot 2/3 magnification in good situation that is very convenient for enough lighting exposure value. Close up shooting field must be much more interesting than before, especially more than 1/1 magnification, probably, unpredictable difficulty must be waiting for me, lighting methods with any special reflectors, shooting angle, camera and lens fixation, noisy lighting cut by adjustable burn door and so on, there exist an interest and curiosity to ride over it come in a  new different world?

Unexpected result

Basically I have been looking down on the physical performance of any variable focus length lenses, but my persistent perception was overturned with some regret on my own smug perceived notion.
Minolta MD ZOOM 35-105 was used as a control when two 200 mm TELE Photo lenses were test shot yesterday comparing the resolutions and sharpness under various iris opening conditions.
The Macro adjusting ring on MD ZOOM lens was not set at correct position by mistake, then I could recognized some incredible performance of the property. Further experiments and researches should be done from now, how this unexpected had been obtained. Depending on the future courses, more research subjects might be necessary with various covering ranges.

By the way, the ZOOM picture is shot by ancient Elmar 50/3,5 at 5,6 aperture with modification adopting on Canon EOS Digital mount. 11,5 mm anterior extension utilizing original lens barrel made it possible to close up till 1/4, as the lens element of this lens positions at relatively frontal position, this kind of unusual modification is possible on a SLR camera body.
Though irreversible modification is done on this historic work at art, but I didn't do this intentionally. This lens had been thrown away into a trash in some Leica shop because of distorted frontal identification flange by falling down by mistake, so I picked it up and survived marvelous Elmar as a lens that can work in the modern world. So, I should not be in impeached but be praised as a good craftsman. I'm not a person with shallow thoughtful nor without common senses.

QF200 & PE200

Two Minolta MC TELE ROKKOR 200 mm lenses have modified to adopt onto Canon EOS Digital mount. QF 200/3,5 heavier lens required more solid bayonet flange avoiding critical optical axis displacement on the connective portion. Self -curing Acrylic Resin material and 4-Metha metallic and engineering plastic adhesive were applied for solid fixation between original SR bayonet nails and added EOS bayonet mounts. Of course the parallelism of flange surfaces are precisely  established. The lens element's antero-posterior positions are so adjusted to set acquiring infinity focusing.
Lens testing of them shows a little differences on iris opened condition, the physical property of QF lens is excellent as mentioned in the article, so it worth carrying for shooting in spite of 790 gr heavy lens weight, but it's lighter than Leitz APO-Summicron 180/2 with 2,5 kg?

ROKKOR QF 200/3,5 completed!

I have achieved my heavy hobby work to adopt Minolta TELE ROKKOR QF 200/3,5 on Canon EOS Digital body 7D before long. Not a little effort was required to move lens element 2 mm posteriorly, a metallic EOS bayonet flange and discrepant value 0,5 mm between Minolta MC and Canon EOS. Deeper consideration was necessary to seek out the adjustable part and just swapping the position of adjusting sim ring on the rear lens supporting case could make it possible to establish the correct flange-back value 44,0 mm, same as Canon EOS standard. I have to carry all the time in spite of it's relatively heavier weight, 790 gr, Elmarit-R 135/2,8 weighs 730 gr. But even on the tripod, a camera with this lens have some tendency to tremble leading to shaking, so, external release switch must be prepared, the wired shutter button for 10D can be an alternative? The coupler at wiring end  equipped on 7D is the same as 10D?

ROKKOR QF 200/3,5 disassembled

Old Tele Photo lens produced in 1960, Minolta MC tele ROKKOR QF 200/3,5 was disassembled a part in order to examine the region to move 2 mm backward for establishing infinity focusing position when mounted on Canon EOS Digital body, 1,5 mm thickness of additional metallic flange and fundamental flange-back discrepant value 0,5 mm. The mechanical construction of barrel inside is so rigid as to surprise my eyes being familiar with recent plastic and delicate ones. Though some heavy and dull movement are observed because of lack of lubrication, no critical wear on important portions, probably this one was not used much to make backlash, in stead it looks like new one. No problem like mold nor scratches on the lens element make me swing pass to reconstruct this lens adopting on Digital image format, and further efforts would be required to complete the work.   

Minolta TELE ROKKOR-QF 200/3,5

I played with bidding on Minolta MC TELE ROKKOR-QF 200/3,5 in YaHoo Auction at the price of 300 yen, then I got the winning with no price increases. But, it was thrown away because of old designing and heavier weight reading to some measuring on mounting reinforcement because of bayonet distortion. As for my surprise, an ancient designed lens same as I have produced in 1960 is praised utmost in some Web site written by some professional engineer, judging from the phraseology, terminology and sentence so I believe in. I have determined to modify this ROKKOR -QF 200/3,5 adopting on to Canon EOS Digital mount with desperate efforts, of course I know that the conventional manner I have been doing utilizing EOS body cap plastic parts would not play a part of stiff and stable fixation against 790 gr lens weight because of physical property of deformable engineering plastic material, so a solid chrome plated brass metallic material should be applied there as a connective bayonet nails. Yes, I have a piece of that part from the third party junk zoom lens, I'm going to connect the part on the original MC bayonet portion with epoxy glue without any hesitation, 2 mm forward positioning by this arrangement part thickness 1,5mm and fundamental flange-back mutual discrepancy 0,5mm would be compensated by internal helicoid adjusting mechanism for infinity focusing as usual.


  

Disaster 18 years ago

It was 18 years ago, January, 17th, 1995, 5:46 AM, that Hanshin Awaji big Earth Quake happened and over 6,000 people were killed miserably. (The earth quake at Osaka-Kobe-Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture connected) Still now the influences remain here and there, also much in our mind. To tell the truth, I didn't have the experience there at that time, because I knew that in CNN TV News program in outside of Japan. Thought I at the beginning it's only some some bombing scenery of some movie, but it didn't take a minute to know the truth after being showed Helicopter camera realizing the actual phenomenon on the ground of destroyed Kobe City. I could come home late at night on the day, finding out the safe forms of my family, observing shredded roads in our neighborhood on the way. The crowded roads all to the West direction prevented me from proceeding to my home and took me over 6 hours to reach at Nakayama from Osaka Umeda on the same day. Something in my home mainly pottery and glass tableware were destroyed when fallen down, nobody injured. Destroyed water and gas supplies obliged us some inconvenient daily lives for the time being till they were recovered as before.
The perceptions to live for our friends might have been changed not a little after the disaster, became deeper with them.

Adaptations

Minolta MD to Leica M adapter previously I made can play a part of convenient interface connecting TELE-ROKKOR-QF 200/3,5 and Leica M9 full size Digital imaging, if New X-700 is used as a focusing tool as the same manner with the adapter of Minolta MD to Canon EOS. Experimental result on the accuracy of focusing point proved that the adapter has enough capability for an ordinary TELE-Photo shooting purpose. Changing camera bodies on every shooting looks troublesome, but actually not for me if every shot is supported by enough attention under deepest consideration one by one like the equipment 4 inch by 5 inch silver salt transparencies. Of course I know the requirement is different depending on the shooting situation.

I had an interesting information about newly introduced Web site, "Change.org", judging from their concept, this group would be some strong pressure group from now. The representative of Japan branch is reliable person with sophisticated sense, so smart woman highly educated in US for more than 10 years.

Machinery maintenance

Air and water pressure control valve in #3 working chair was disassembled and maintained to correct inconvenient dysfunction since a few days ago, that was caused by distorted rubber gasket inserted in valve module for upper and lower covering parts as usual. The residual part invaded into the cylinder interferes smooth movement of plungers, so unnecessary part of the rubber gasket were cut and removed so carefully not to blowing by air and water pressures. After removing sludge and banishes in the module and applying lubrication by silicon grease on O shape rings, disassembled parts were re-constructed with successful result. Dysfunctions in a familiar machinery is relatively easy to repair because of long lasted experiences, this is why I hesitate to introduce some sophisticated new equipment for our business. As for my opinion, any device and machinery should work well at any time I want as designed by the engineers, so periodical maintenance should be be performed. Any machinery could be continued if servicing maintenance were performed adequately.

Silk stain specialist

I had a tea time with Mr. Sachio Yoshioka who is a famous person in ancient Kyozome(Kyoto stain) industry stuff. He is specialized in the ancient technology in the field utilizing only the natural plant staining materials for silk clothes. A chat conversation with him revealed that he is the busiest person judging from his age around 65 years old and realized I again that there is no easier occupation in the world, he is devoting himself utmost all the time. 1/4 of a year is spent for the dedication to the famous shrines scattered all over Japan for free of charge. His life is supported mainly his own awareness and a strong determination to contribute himself to the traditional rituals. He became slender than before, so I'm anxious about his health condition.
His specialization of long lasting researches and experiments is just the way to communicate with the origin of Nature and that of ancient people, so he is consulting with old paleography and documents by reproducing the practice following old theories and methods and prove the part that we do not know in the blank.
Also, he is the only person to be recommended by The Royal Silk Industrial Community in England as a representative craftsman in the world.

I could have some permission to visit his working place in Kyoto Uji in very near future, of course I know that any visiting by any outsider like me is very inconvenient for him to be troubled and to be interrupted his work, so 15 minutes or 30 minutes at the longest, just I want to obtain some motivation to break down my closed way to communicate with Nature recently as an artist.
Political events of the shrine sometimes discriminates women because of each cleansed, his heir might have some problem, he has no hair of the man but three daughters. They must some reliable son-in-law as soon as possible, because the new comer should be nourished and learn much about his long lasted traditional tinting technology, not so easy task as imagined by the outsiders.

Checked out the accuracy

After finishing Canon EOS to Leica M adapter, the device accuracy test was performed. Leica APO-Summicron R 180/2,8 was invited setting the focusing point at 1,80 m and aperture was done at fully opened on position 2. The focusing point shown as a yellow star was reproduced on the image without antero-posterior discrepancy. Now I have a proof that the adapter with hand-making method has enough capability to be used in the shooting scenery in fact.
It looks troublesome procedure to replace camera bodies after focusing manner, but not bad nor a pain for me, because I had been got accustomed to the manner of replacing focusing plate into film holder in every shooting turn one after another, so replacing cassettes is an ordinary and common procedure to obtain transparencies. Consequently, EOS kiss 3 toy-like camera plays great part of long range focusing in this Digital age by means of Leica M9.
Anyway my desperate effort for two days to make up Canon EOS to Leica M has rewarded enough! It's good that I didn't throw old Kiss away as an industrial waste.

EOS to Leica M with 16,20mm

EOS lens to Leica M mounting adapter has successfully completed! As the best care was taken to establish the flange surfaces parallelism, 16,20 mm value was precisely produced on the mounting adapter. A picture shows only for a trial fitting of EOS lens but no for actual use, because this kit lens has no exposure value adjustment by iris closure and narrower image circle only for APS-C imaging format. Rigidity of the adapter construction engineering plastic was unhoped-for obtained, it's enough to support  Leica M Digital body without distortion, so APO-Telyt 280/2,8 and APO-Summicron lenses on the tripod supporter would play a good part of exposure on M9 full sized imaging format. I'm looking forward to see the result of striped moire filter-less imaging format and the original performances of superb Leica Tele-photo lenses.

EOS to Leica M adapter

Canon EOS lens rear cap and Leica M body cap were utilized to make up EOS to Leica M adapter compensating flange-back discrepancy, 44,0 mm minus 27,8 mm, establishing 16,2 mm value. Best care was taken to keep the parallelism between the flange surfaces avoiding the deviation of the optical axis, because I want to exclude unnecessary tilting camera effect. Once this adapter is completed, all the EOS mount lenses are capable to set on Leica M9 Digital body with full size format, no stripe moire filter is prepared just in front of the image sensor. EOS Kiss3 silver salt SLR body is used only for a focusing purpose and the body would be replaced into Leica M9 Digital body for full size exposure(SM filter less).
ASAHI PENTAX and SIGMA are also producing striped moire filter less models promptly, but they are not full size but APS-C smaller imaging format.
So, APO Telyt-R 280/2,8 lens would be used on M9 by way of R-EOS adapter and EOS-M adapter, also APO Summicron-R 180/2. As the weight of the lens body is supported by itself on the  tripod, so the physical property of plastic adapter is enough to support the camera body weight without distortion.
I'm looking forward to the completion of this connecting adapter, soon the result would be reported. 

Tonneau cover & NCP10

Tonneau cover coupling part in XH200 B-Vectra has been broken in pieces by my lough handling, but for this construction the secret privacy cover cannot be set in position, so this is an indispensable one. The screw holding portion was ripped away miserably and the engineering plastic part had to be ordered as a replacement part? Deeper consideration led me to some conclusion to apply a bit longer screw to re-obtain the fixation on the point. Finally I could repair tight there as before. Lesson taught me again, plastic construction should be handled gently with heartful cares.

Though I visited Netz TOYOTA dealer to check and define the reason for strange clicking noise from right side drive train, but in vain, the problem on NCP10 TOYOTA Vitz still remains. As a matter for doubtfully strange, the noise disappears if the right side wheel is re-set in position with 180 degree rotation, it's very strange why this kind of cheating phenomena happens, how come? I'm sure the origin of it comes from needle roller bearing in the driveshaft, but the engineer says might be different cause though he cannot define about it?

Choke controller in VW1302

Automatic choke system in VW 1302 Super Beetle must be adjusted to prolong the activating time period according to the atmospheric temperature changes, because too early cut off of choking function oblige me to keep idling speed controlling gas pedal subtly, otherwise motor stops in motor too much cooling condition, probably this inconvenient phenomena must be caused by the  dysfunction of thermostat(fully opened from the beginning), just out of order. As a matter of fact, as  the measure for that, the automatic choke module should be loosened on 3 holding screws, and rotated about 15 degree counter-clockwise direction and re-tightened. As the rough combustion appears only while the after cold starting phase, the air volume control screw nor bypass screw should not be adjusted. Above all, I must pass the Legal Inspection by authorities on the end of this February performed every 2 years periodically, so any rough adjustment on Solex 34 PICT3 carburetor should not be done considering about the exhaust gas checking, Carbon mono-Oxide below 0,5% and Hydro Carbon below 1300PPM. Best care must be taken to establish the good gas mixture carburetor condition.

The newer the better?

No matter what it might be, a man or a thing, there occurs some responsibility to nourish and to maintain good relationships between them, so I don't agree with the opinion that stopping the relationships if any inconvenience happens or easily purchasing new one returned. There are various people in their thought and feelings and are products, machinery and equipment with design intent contemplation by the designers promptly, so, I cannot through away any relationships with them so easily ignoring struggles and efforts those are invisible in most of the case. This kind of concept might depends on the attitude and living way of the mind's own? I'm often pointed out my eccentric way of thinking way on this point, insisting on an old thing extraordinary, I'm sometimes regarded crazy!?
I have tried to modify old Minolta MD and MC lenses designed while silver salt film period and succeeded in the experiments, the true intention is based on this my way of this principle.

Camera shake phenomena

Deeper consideration and several experiments enlarging images on LCD have proved the fact that resolution and sharpness of a picture that is often talk about have most to do with the camera hand holding condition and the shutter speed, especially with the weight and balance of the equipment. Above 1/30 and heavier balanced one have advantages to avoid inconvenient camera shake. Even with critical Balsam peeling defect in lens constructive element, Leitz Elmarit-R 135/2,8 lens plays extraordinary excellent performance when used actually, I don't know why it is so better than others?
The trick has solved after the experiment and comparison on the lens weight. Heavier lens body wight, 730 gr without filter plays a good part as a stabilizer preventing hand holding camera shake considerably. Minolta once manufactured heavier XE model while the silver salt film period, sister product for Lietz company was R3 with automatic exposure capability, but the model concept was changed into lighter and smaller ones inviting the same concept  also on lens constructions as MD models.
I want to ask to myself, the lighter and the smaller are the better? Now I have realized again the importance of the former concept even in advanced Digital age again, because basically I don't believe in some sophisticated inventions, lens internal optical direction adjuster nor image sensor anti-shaking construction, saying to myself that the camera body or lens body should be fixed on the solid and stable tripod in any situation and at any location following an old principle for any photographers.

Good day yesterday

I happened to be a good location with an additive on the way along the Sasayama River today, I excited not a little when shooting the scenery and realized I the fun to advocate in train photograph fields. Though cloudy weather as it was and cold a bit outside, 2 cm thickness frozen ice plate on the pond, no windy condition contributed to a good photo day to run about in the mountain for various shooting locations, as straight rising up smoke and stable mist among the mountain valleys show favorable atmosphere in the pictures.
Running about along winding roads with hill climbing and downing cured some chronic bad habit in rear transfer clutch in automatic trans-axle equipped in 20 years old BC7 SUBARU Legacy LSi US model. Because the axle construction had been changed from original US model into GC8 WRX Turbo model Impreza, the modified suspension is harder like some sport model, so the fuel tank must be fulfilled if I desire more stability on the tail behavior. As all the parts had been invited from not third parties, but from SUBARU genuine ones without any strange modifications, the riding taste is acceptable and I appreciate the engineering technology & know-how of SUBARU factory tuners.
