Trials & errors




Removed carpet was repaired with new material, terrible mold smell obliged me to remove the original carpet applied in the cabin of VW 1302 Super Beetle few month ago. As the room decorating material like carpet has nothing to do with the automobile's fundamental performance to run, the retained glue was left untouched with ugly looks.

After fixing the floor carpet as it was, realized I the material had much to do with the establishment of the character and dignity as a passenger's automobile. As an additional treatment for noise prevention, 3mm thickness rubber material was set under the carpet adequately resulting the remarkable improvement of the NVH reduction.

Rear fire wall had been covered with the same rubber material last time, now the high frequency noise is discerned from the shift lever portion mainly caused by trans-axle gears and joint bearings, some countermeasure must reconsidered there.

The compliance balance in NVH had been well considered by the VW factory even 40 years ago, so I realized after the reconstruction of insulating rubber material.
Even now the developers and researchers for a new model are repeating this kind of trials and errors utilizing sophisticated measuring instruments and devices.

Today frontal part only, side sill covering would be done on coming Thursday, as the parts are already firmly cut as original size.
